Reconstructing Mimetic Cosmology

We explore the mimetic gravity formulation with the inclusion of a scalar field potential namely, $V(ϕ)$. However, we are not considering any {\it a priori} specific form this term. By means of the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization for the parameter state of the fluid we can construct an explicit function for such potential in terms of the cosmological redshift and obtain analytical solutions in the mimetic gravity approach. We revise some cosmological implications of these results and additionally we perform a numerical reconstruction for the potential $V$ as a function of the mimetic scalar field, $ϕ$.

Challenging matter creation models in the phantom divide

We perform a study both statistical and theoretical for cosmological models of matter creation and their ability to describe effective phantom models of dark energy. Such models are beyond the $Λ$CDM model since the resulting cosmic expansion is not adiabatic. In fact, we show that this approach exhibits transient phantom/quintessence scenarios at present time and tends to the standard cosmological model at some stage of the cosmic evolution. We discuss some generalities of the thermodynamics properties for this type of cosmological model; we emphasize on the behavior of the temperature associated to dark matter, which keeps positive along cosmic evolution together with the entropy. The enrichment of this type of model by means of the incorporation of cosmological constant and dissipative effects in the fluid description to explore their cosmological consequences in the expansion of the universe is considered. Finally, a generalization for the matter production rate as an inhomogeneous expression of the Hubble parameter and its derivatives is discussed; as in all the cases examined, such election leads to an effective phantom/quintessence behavior.

Cosmic expansion with matter creation and bulk viscosity

We explore the cosmological implications at effective level of matter creation effects in a dissipative fluid for a FLRW geometry; we also perform a statistical analysis for this kind of model. By considering an inhomogeneous Ansatz for the particle production rate we obtain that for created matter of dark matter type we can have a quintessence scenario or a future singularity known as little rip; in dependence of the value of a constant parameter, $η$, which characterizes the matter production effects. The dimensionless age of this kind of Universe is computed, showing that this number is greater than the standard cosmology value, this is typical of universes with presence of dark energy. The inclusion of baryonic matter is studied. By implementing the construction of the particle production rate for a dissipative fluid by considering two approaches for the expression of the bulk viscous pressure; we find that in Eckart model we have a big rip singularity leading to a catastrophic matter production and in the truncated version of the Israel-Stewart model such rate remains bounded leading to a quintessence scenario. For a non adiabatic dissipative fluid, we obtain a positive temperature and the cosmic expansion obeys the second law of thermodynamics.

Modeling holographic dark energy with particle and future horizons

In this work we explore some cosmological properties coming from the particle and future horizons when are considered as candidates to model the dark energy sector within a holographic context in a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe; we focus on some thermodynamics characteristics of the resulting dark energy scenario. Within the interacting scheme for cosmological fluids we obtain that in the dark sector, the dark energy fluid will always have negative entropy production and additionally, the positivity for the entropy and temperature can not be guaranteed simultaneously; this result holds for both horizons. However, this last issue can be solved if chemical potential is introduced in the thermodynamics description. For the non interacting approach, we obtain similar results as those of the single fluid description for the entropy behavior. We also find that the model admits a genuine big rip singularity when the dark energy density is sketched by the future horizon, in consequence the resulting parameter state can cross to the phantom regime. For the particle horizon case the cosmological fluid can emulate ordinary matter and the coincidence parameter has a decreasing behavior when the future horizon is elected.

Non-zero torsion and late cosmology

In this work, we study some thermodynamical aspects associated with torsion in a flat FLRW spacetime cosmic evolution. By implementing two Ansatze for the torsion term, we find that the model admits a phantom regime or a quintessence behavior. This scheme differs from the $Λ$CDM model at the thermodynamical level. The resulting cosmic expansion is not adiabatic, the fulfillment of the second law of thermodynamics requires a positive torsion term, and the temperature of the cosmic fluid is always positive. The entropy of the torsion phantom scenario is negative, but introducing chemical potential solves this issue. For a Dirac-Milne type Universe, the torsion leads to a growing behavior for the temperature of the fluid but has no incidence on the rate of expansion.

Bulk-Boundary interaction and the second law in Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology

By defining $Q$ as a function which realizes the energy transference between the bulk and the boundary of spacetime, as we interprete it here in the framework of Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) cosmology, flat case, we discuss the validity of the second law of thermodynamics in the light of the sign changes of $Q$ (changes in the direction of energy transference) and its consequences through the cosmic evolution, in particular, whether the thermal equilibrium between bulk and boundary is reached or not. Additionally, we discuss possible phase transitions experienced by the bulk and the boundary (seen as sign changes in their heat capacities) through the cosmic evolution. The energy density in the bulk is modeled under an holographic perspective. As far as we know, currently there is not observational data on bulk-boundary interaction.

Holographic energy density on Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology

In Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology we use the holographic Ricci-like cut-off for the energy density proposed by L. N. Granda and A. Oliveros and under this framework we study, through the cosmic evolution at late times, the sign change in the amount of non-conservation energy ($Q$) present in this cosmology. We revise the early stage (curvature-dependent) of this cosmology, where a term reminiscent of stiff matter is the dominant, and in this stage we find a power-law solution for the cosmic scale factor although $ω=-1$. Late and early phantom schemes are obtained without requiring $ω<-1$. Nevertheless, these schemes are not feasible according to what is shown in this paper. We also show that $ ω=-1$ alone does not imply a de Sitter phase in the present cosmology. Thermal aspects are revised by considering the energy interchange between the bulk and the spacetime boundary and we conclude that there is no thermal equilibrium between them. Finally, a ghost scalar graviton (extra degree of freedom in HL gravity) is required by the observational data.

Interacting cosmic fluids and phase transitions under a holographic modeling for dark energy

We discuss the consequences of possible sign changes of the $Q$-function which measures the energy transference between dark energy and dark matter. We investigate this scenario from a holographic perspective to modeling the dark energy by a linear-parametrization of the equation of state parameter denoted by $ω$. By imposing the strong constraint of the second law of thermodynamics, we show that sign changes of $Q$ due to the cosmic evolution imply changes in the temperatures of dark energy and dark matter, respectively. We also discuss the phase transitions, in the past and future, experienced by dark energy and dark matter (or, equivalently, the sign changes of their heat capacities).

DGP Cosmological model with generalized Ricci dark energy

The braneworld model proposed by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) leads to an accelerated universe without cosmological constant or other form of dark energy for the positive branch $(ε=+1)$. For the negative branch $(ε=-1)$ we have investigated the behavior of a model with an holographic Ricci-like dark energy and dark matter, where the IR cutoff takes the form $αH^2 + β\dot{H}$, being $H$ the Hubble parameter and $α$, $β$ positive constants of the model. We perform an analytical study of the model in the late-time dark energy dominated epoch, where we obtain a solution for $r_cH(z)$, where $r_c$ is the leakage scale of gravity into the bulk, and conditions for the negative branch on the holographic parameters $α$ and $β$, in order to hold the conditions of weak energy and accelerated universe. On the other hand, we compare the model versus the late-time cosmological data using the latest type Ia supernova sample of the Joint Light-curve Analysis (JLA), in order to constraint the holographic parameters in the negative branch, as well as $r_cH_0$ in the positive branch, where $H_0$ is the Hubble constant. We find that the model has a good fit to the data and that the most likely values for $(r_cH_0, α, β)$ lie in the permitted region found from an analytical solution in a dark energy dominated universe. We give a justification to use holographic cut-off in 4D for the dark energy in the 5 dimensional DGP model. Finally, using the Bayesian Information Criterion we find that this model it is disfavored compared with the flat $Λ$CDM model.

Hawking radiation from z=3 and z=1-Lifshitz black holes

The Hawking radiation considered as a tunneling process, by using a Hamilton-Jacobi prescription, is discussed for both z=3 and z=1-Lifshitz black holes. We have found that the tunneling rate (which is not thermal but related to the change of entropy) for the z=3-Lifshitz black hole (which does not satisfy the Area/4-law) does not yield (give us) the ecpected tunneling rate: $Γ\simeq exp(ΔS)$, where $ΔS$ is the change of black hole entropy, if we compare with the z=1-Lifshitz black hole (BTZ black hole, which satisfies the Area/4-law).

No stable dissipative phantom scenario in the framework of a complete cosmological dynamics

We investigate the phase space dynamics of a bulk viscosity model in the Eckart approach for a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We have included two barotropic fluids and a dark energy component. One of the barotropic fluids is treated as an imperfect fluid having bulk viscosity, whereas the other components are assumed to behave as perfect fluids. Both barotropic fluids are identified as either radiation or dark matter. Considering that the bulk viscosity acts on either radiation or dark matter, we find that viscous phantom solutions with stable behavior are not allowed in the framework of complete cosmological dynamics. Only an almost zero value of the bulk viscosity allows a transition from a radiation-dominated to a matter-dominated epoch, which then evolves to an accelerated late time expansion, dominated by dark energy.

On Hořava-Lifshitz Cosmology

We discuss some aspects of the Horava-Lifshitz cosmology with different matter components considered as dominants at different stages of the cosmic evolution (each stage is represented by an equation of state pressure/density=constant). We compare cosmological solutions from this theory with their counterparts of General Relativity (Friedmann cosmology). At early times, the Horava- Lifshitz cosmology contains a curvature-dependent dominant term which is stiff matter-reminiscent and this fact motivates to discuss, in some detail, this term beside the usual stiff matter component (pressure=density) if we are thinking in the role that this fluid could have played early in the framework of the holographic cosmology. Nevertheless, we show that an early stiff matter component is of little relevance in Horava-Lifshitz cosmology.

Scalar field scattering by a Lifshitz black hole under a non-minimal coupling

We study the behavior of a scalar field under a z = 3 Lifshitz black hole background, in a way that is non-minimally coupled to the gravitational field. A general analytical solution is obtained along with two sets of quasinormal modes associated to different boundary conditions that can be imposed on the scalar field, non-minimal coupling parameter appears explicitly on these solutions. Stability of quasinormal modes can be studied and ensured for both cases. Also, the reflection and absorption coefficients are calculated, as well as the absorption cross section which features an interesting behavior because of being attenuated by terms strongly dependant on the non-minimal coupling. By a suitable change of variables a soliton solution can also be obtained and the stability of the quasinormal modes are studied and ensured.

Γ-sign in entropic cosmology

We study a cosmology by considering entropic issues. We make a bare/effective description of the equation of state of the cosmic fluid through a bare (ω)/effective (ω_eff) conservation equation. In the bare case, where we have a non conserved equation of state for the cosmic fluid, we describe the change in the sign of the inhomogeneus term at different times of the cosmic evolution. We show that by a redefinition of the adiabatic ω-parameter we can recover the usual scheme for the cosmic evolution. In the effective case we show also that if the evolution is driven by dust or cosmological constant, the universe evolves on the thermal equilibrium. Additionally, by incorporating a quantum correction only cosmological constant can drive an evolution on thermal equilibrium.

Fermionic and scalar fields as sources of interacting dark matter-dark energy

From a variational action with non-minimal coupling with a scalar field and classical scalar and fermionic interaction, cosmological field equations can be obtained. Imposing a FLRW metric the equations lead directly to a cosmological model consisting of two interacting fluids, where the scalar field fluid is interpreted as dark energy and the fermionic field fluid is interpreted as dark matter. Several cases were studied analytically and numerically. An important feature of the non-minimal coupling is that it allows crossing the barrier from a quintessence to phantom behavior. The insensitivity of the solutions to one of the parameters of the model permits it to find an almost analytical solution for the cosmological constant type of universe.

Holographic dark energy in the DGP model

The braneworld model proposed by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati leads to an accelerated universe without cosmological constant or other form of dark energy. Nevertheless, we have investigated the consequences of this model when an holo- graphic dark energy is included, taken the Hubble scale as IR cutoff. We have found that the holographic dark energy leads to an accelerated universe flat (de Sitter like expansion) for the two branch: {\ko} = \pm1 of the DGP model. Nevertheless, in universes with no null curvature the dark energy presents an EoS corresponding to a phantom fluid during the present era and evolving to a de Sitter like phase for future cosmic time. In the special case in which the holographic parameter c is equal to one we have found a sudden singularity in closed universes. In this case the expansion is decelerating. Manuscript

Crossing the phantom divide with Ricci-like holographic dark energy

We study a holographic model for the dark energy considered recently in the literature which postulates an energy density $ρ\sim R$, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar curvature. We obtain a cosmological scenario that comes from considering two non-interacting fluids along a reasonable Ansatz for the cosmic coincidence parameter. We adjust the involved parameters in the model according to the observational data and we show that the equation of state for the dark energy experience a cross through the -1 barrier. In addition, we find a disagreement in these parameters with respect to an approach from a scalar field theory.

Bare and effective fluid description in brane world cosmology

An effective fluid description, for a brane world model in five dimensions, is discussed for both signs of the brane tension. We found several cosmological scenarios where the effective equation differs widely from the bare equation of state. For universes with negative brane tension, with a bare fluid satisfying the strong energy condition, the effective fluid can cross the barrier $ω_{eff} =-1$.

Quasinormal Modes of Extremal BTZ Black Hole

Motivated by several pieces of evidence, in order to show that extreme black holes cannot be obtained as limits of non-extremal black holes, in this article we calculate explicitly quasinormal modes for Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) extremal black hole and we showed that the imaginary part of the frequency is zero. We obtain exact result for the scalar an fermionic perturbations. We also showed that the frequency is bounded from below for the existence of the normal modes (non-dissipative modes).
