Conceptual design of the Spin Physics Detector

The Spin Physics Detector, a universal facility for studying the nucleon spin structure and other spin-related phenomena with polarized proton and deuteron beams, is proposed to be placed in one of the two interaction points of the NICA collider that is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia). At the heart of the project there is huge experience with polarized beams at JINR. The main objective of the proposed experiment is the comprehensive study of the unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon. Spin measurements at the Spin Physics Detector at the NICA collider have bright perspectives to make a unique contribution and challenge our understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon. In this document the Conceptual Design of the Spin Physics Detector is presented.

Determination of the generalized parton distributions through the analysis of the world electron scattering data considering two-photon exchange corrections

We determine the valence generalized parton distributions (GPDs) $ H_v^q $ and $ E_v^q $ with their uncertainties at zero skewness by performing a $ χ^2 $ analysis of the world electron scattering data considering two-photon exchange corrections. The data include a wide and updated range of the electric and magnetic form factors (FFs) of the proton and neutron. As a result, we find that there are no enough constraints on GPDs $ E_v^q $ from FFs data solely though $ H_v^q $ are well constrained. By including the new data of the charge and magnetic radius of the nucleon in the analysis, we show that they put new constraints on the final GPDs, especially on $ E_v^q $. Moreover, we calculate the gravitational FF $ M_2 $ and the total angular momentum $ J^q $ using the extracted GPDs and compare them with the FFs obtained from the light-cone QCD sum rules (LCSR) and Lattice QCD. We show that our results are interestingly in a good consistency with the pure theoretical predictions.

Lepton-pair production in hard exclusive hadron-hadron collisions

We investigate lepton-pair production in hard exclusive hadron-hadron collisions. We consider a double handbag (DH) mechanism in which the process amplitude factorizes in hard subprocesses, qq -> qq gamma* and qg -> qg gamma*, and in soft hadron matrix elements parameterized as generalized parton distributions (GPDs). Employing GPDs extracted from exclusive meson electroproduction, we present predictions for the lepton-pair cross section at kinematics typical for the LHC, NICA and FAIR. It turns out from our numerical studies that the quark-gluon subprocess dominates by far, the quark-quark (antiquark) subprocesses are almost negligible.

Transversity in exclusive vector-meson leptoproduction

The role of transversity or helicity-flip generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in leptoproduction of vector mesons is investigated within the framework of the handbag approach. The transversity GPDs in combination with twist-3 meson wave functions, occur in the amplitudes for transitions from a transversely polarized virtual photon to a longitudinal polarized vector meson. The importance of the transversity GPDs can be examined in some of the spin density matrix elements and in transverse target spin asymmetries. Using suitable parametrizations of both helicity-flip and non-flip GPDs, which are essentially taken from our previous papers, we estimate these observables and compare the results with available data.

Polarized GPDs in pions and kaons electroproduction. Tranversity effects

We analyze the electroproduction of pseudoscalar mesons within the handbag approach. To investigate these reactions, we consider the leading-twist contribution together with the transversity twist-3 effects that are crucial in the description of experimental data. Our results on the cross section are in agreement with experiment. We present our predictions for spin observables.

Spin effects in diffractive $ Q \bar Q$ production at BNL eRHIC

We discuss quark-antiquark leptoproduction within a QCD two-gluon exchange model at small $x$. The double spin asymmetries for longitudinally polarized leptons and transversely polarized protons in diffractive $Q \bar Q$ production are analysed at eRHIC energies. The predicted $A_{lT}$ asymmetry is large and can be used to obtain information on the polarized generalized gluon distributions in the proton.

Diffractive hadron leptoproduction and SPD

We discuss diffractive hadron leptoproduction in terms of skewed gluon distributions and within two-gluon exchange model. Connection of the two-gluon approach with skewed gluon distributions is found. The double spin asymmetries for longitudinally polarized leptons and transversely polarized protons in diffractive vector meson and $Q \bar Q$ production at high energies within the two-gluon model is analysed. The asymmetry predicted for meson production is found to be quite small. The $A_{lT}$ asymmetry for $Q \bar Q$ production is large and can be used to obtain information on the polarized skewed gluon distributions in the proton.

Transverse Spin Effects In Diffractive Hadron Leptoproduction

We consider double spin asymmetries for longitudinally polarized leptons and transversely polarized protons in diffractive vector meson and $Q \bar Q$ production at high energies within the two-gluon model. The asymmetry predicted for meson production is quite small. The $A_{lT}$ asymmetry for $Q \bar Q$ production contains two independent terms which are large and can be used to obtain information on the polarized gluon distributions in the proton.

Spin Effects in Diffractive $J/Ψ$ Leptoproduction and Structure of Pomeron Coupling

We calculate the cross section and the $A_{ll}$ asymmetry of the diffractive vector meson leptoproduction for a simple model of the pomeron coupling with the proton. It is found that the sensitivity of the spin--dependent cross section of the diffractive $J/Ψ$ production to the pomeron coupling structure is rather weak. The conclusion is made that it will be difficult to study the structure of the pomeron coupling with the proton in future polarized diffractive experiments on the $J/Ψ$ production.

Supercritical Pomeron and eikonal representation of the diffraction scattering amplitude

The intercept of the supercritical Pomeron is examined with the use of different forms of the scattering amplitudes of the bare Pomeron. The one-to-one correspondence between the eikonal phase and the ratio of the elastic and total cross section is shown. Based on new experimental data of the CDF Collaboration, the intercept and power of the logarithmic growth of the bare and total Pomeron amplitude are analyzed. It is shown that as a result of the eikonalization procedure, the bare QCD Pomeron becomes compatible with experiment.

Spin Effects in High Energy Photon-Hadron Scattering in QCD

The spin effects at high energies and momenta transferred $|t|>1 GeV^2$ are analysed for quark-photon scattering. The energy independence of the ratio of spin-flip and spin-non-flip amplitudes in the same $α_s$ order of QCD is obtained. It is shown that the contribution of the spin-dependent quark-pomeron vertex to the spin-flip amplitude is intensified by off-mass-shell effects in the quark loop. As a result, the magnitude of this amplitude can reach 20-30\% from a spin-non-flip one. The dependence of the cross-section on the form-factor and $α_s^3$ spin-non-flip contributions are observed.

The Behavior of the Slope of Elastic Nucleon Scattering at Small Transfer Momenta and Recent Ua4 Data

Theoretical predictions for the behavior of the slope of the nucleon-nucleon scattering and another parameters of the differential cross sections in the framework of the dynamic model are compared with the recent UA4 data at small transfer momenta and at the centre-of-mass energy of 541 GeV. The predictions at superhigh energies are considered.
