Gravitational Chern-Simons terms and black hole entropy. Global aspects

We discuss the topological and global gauge properties of the formula for a black hole entropy due to a purely gravitational Chern-Simons term. We study under what topological and geometrical conditions this formula is well-defined. To this end we have to analyze the global properties of the Chern-Simons term itself and the quantization of its coupling. We show that in some cases the coupling quantization may interfere with the well-definiteness of the entropy formula.

Hawking Fluxes, $W_\infty$ Algebra and Anomalies

We complete the analysis started in [arXiv:0804.0198] of the Hawking radiation calculated by means of anomaly techniques. We concentrate on a static radially symmetric BH, reduced to two dimensions. We compare the two methods used to derive the integrated Hawking radiation, based on the trace and diffeomorphism anomaly, respectively, and show that they can be reduced to the same basic elements. We then concentrate on higher moments of the Hawking radiation and on higher spin currents, and show that, similarly to trace anomalies, also diffeomorphism anomalies are absent from the conservation laws of higher spin currents. We show that the predictivity of the method is due to the $W_\infty$ current algebra underlying the effective model that describes matter around the black hole.

Horizon conformal entropy in Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We treat spherically symmetric black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity by imposing boundary conditions on fluctuating metric on the horizon. Obtained effective two-dimensional theory admits Virasoro algebra near the horizon. This enables, with the help of Cardy formula, evaluation of the number of states. Obtained results coincide with the known macroscopic expression for the entropy of black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity.

SUSY a consequence of smoothness?

The consequences of certain simple assumptions like smoothness of ground state properties and vanishing of the vacuum energy (at least perturbatively) are explored. It would be interesting from the point of view of building realistic theories to obtain these properties without supersymmetry. Here we show, however, at least in some quantum mechanical models, that these simple assumptions lead to supersymmetric theories.

On Bethe strings in the two-particle sector of the closed SU(2)q invariant spin chain

In this paper we investigate complex solutions of the Bethe equations in the two-particle sector both for arbitrary finite number of sites and for the thermodynamic limit . We find the number of complex solutions (strings) and compare it with the string conjecture prediction. Some simple properties of these solutions like position in the spectrum, crossing of levels, connection to the ground state and transformation to the real solutions are discussed. Counting both real and complex solutions we find expected number of highest weight Bethe states.
