Characterization in bi-parameter space of a non-ideal oscillator

We investigate the dynamical behavior of a non-ideal Duffing oscillator, a system composed of a mass-spring-pendulum driven by a DC motor with limited power supply. To identify new features on Duffing oscillator parameter space due to the limited power supply, we provide an extensive numerical characterization in the bi-parameter space by using Lyapunov exponents. Following this procedure, we identify remarkable new periodic windows, the ones known as Arnold tongues and also shrimp-shaped structures. Such windows appear in highly organized distribution with typical self-similar structures for the shrimps, and, surprisingly, codimension-2 bifurcation as a point of accumulations for the tongues.

Super persistent transient in a master-slave configuration with Colpitts oscillators

Master-slave systems have been intensively investigated to model the application of chaos to communications. We considered Colpitts oscillators coupled according to a master-slave configuration to study chaos synchronisation. We revealed the existence of super persistent transients in this coupled system. Moreover, we showed that an additive noise added to the slave system may suppress chaos synchronisation. When synchronisation is not suppressed, the noise induces longer transients.

Torsion-Adding and Asymptotic Winding Number for Periodic Window Sequences

In parameter space of nonlinear dynamical systems, windows of periodic states are aligned following routes of period-adding configuring periodic window sequences. In state space of driven nonlinear oscillators, we determine the torsion associated with the periodic states and identify regions of uniform torsion in the window sequences. Moreover, we find that the measured of torsion differs by a constant between successive windows in periodic window sequences. We call this phenomenon as torsion-adding. Finally, combining the torsion and the period adding rules, we deduce a general rule to obtain the asymptotic winding number in the accumulation limit of such periodic window sequences.

Replicate Periodic Windows in the Parameter Space of Driven Oscillators

In the bi-dimensional parameter space of driven oscillators, shrimp-shaped periodic windows are immersed in chaotic regions. For two of these oscillators, namely, Duffing and Josephson junction, we show that a weak harmonic perturbation replicates these periodic windows giving rise to parameter regions correspondent to periodic orbits. The new windows are composed of parameters whose periodic orbits have periodicity and pattern similar to stable and unstable periodic orbits already existent for the unperturbed oscillator. These features indicate that the reported replicate periodic windows are associated with chaos control of the considered oscillators.
