A Schauder-type theorem for discontinuous operators with applications to second-order BVPs

We prove a new fixed point theorem of Schauder-type which applies to discontinuous operators in non-compact domains. In order to do so, we present a modification of a recent Schauder-type theorem due to Pouso. We apply our result to second-order boundary value problems with discontinuous nonlinearities. We include an example to illustrate our theory.

On some non-linear boundary value problems related to a Black--Scholes model with transaction costs

We deal with some generalizations on a Black--Scholes model arising in financial mathematics. As novelty in this paper, we consider a variable volatility and abstract functional boundary conditions, which allow us to treat a very large class of problems involving Black--Scholes equation. Our main results involve the existence of extremal solutions in presence of lower and upper solutions. Some examples of application are provided too.

The method of coupled fixed points and coupled quasisolutions when working with ODE's with arguments of bounded variation

The aim of this paper is to show the use of the coupled quasisolutions method as a useful technique when treating with ordinary differential equations with functional arguments of bounded variation. We will do this by looking for solutions for a first-order ordinary differential equation with an advanced argument of bounded variation. The main trick is to use the Jordan decomposition of this argument in a nondecreasing part and a nonincreasing one. As a necessary step, we will also talk about coupled fixed points of multivalued operators.

Coupled fixed points of multivalued operators and first--order ODEs with state--dependent deviating arguments

We establish a coupled fixed points theorem for a meaningful class of mixed monotone multivalued operators and then we use it to derive some results on existence of quasisolutions and solutions to first--order functional differential equations with state--dependent deviating arguments. Our results are very general and can be applied to functional equations featuring discontinuities with respect to all of their arguments, but we emphasize that they are new even for differential equations with continuously state--dependent delays.

Existence of minimal and maximal solutions to first--order differential equations with state--dependent deviated arguments

We prove some new results on existence of solutions to first--order ordinary differential equations with deviating arguments. Delay differential equations are included in our general framework, which even allows deviations to depend on the unknown solutions. Our existence results lean on new definitions of lower and upper solutions introduced in this paper, and we show with an example that similar results with the classical definitions are false. We also introduce an example showing that the problems considered need not have the least (or the greatest) solution between given lower and upper solutions, but we can prove that they do have minimal and maximal solutions in the usual set--theoretic sense. Sufficient conditions for the existence of lower and upper solutions, with some examples of application, are provided too.
