Quickest Detection with Discretely Controlled Observations

We study a continuous time Bayesian quickest detection problem in which observation times are a scarce resource. The agent, limited to making a finite number of discrete observations, must adaptively decide his observation strategy to minimize detection delay and the probability of false alarm. Under two different models of observation rights, we establish the existence of optimal strategies, and formulate an algorithmic approach to the problem via jump operators. We describe algorithms for these problems, and illustrate them with some numerical results. As the number of observation rights tends to infinity, we also show convergence to the classical continuous observation problem of Shiryaev.

Quickest Search over Brownian Channels

In this paper we resolve an open problem proposed by Lai, Poor, Xin, and Georgiadis (2011, IEEE Transactions on Information Theory). Consider a sequence of Brownian Motions with unknown drift equal to one or zero, which we may be observed one at a time. We give a procedure for finding, as quickly as possible, a process which is a Brownian Motion with nonzero drift. This original quickest search problem, in which the filtration itself is dependent on the observation strategy, is reduced to a single filtration impulse control and optimal stopping problem, which is in turn reduced to an optimal stopping problem for a reflected diffusion, which can be explicitly solved.

Stability of exponential utility maximization with respect to market perturbations

We investigate the continuity of expected exponential utility maximization with respect to perturbation of the Sharpe ratio of markets. By focusing only on continuity, we impose weaker regularity conditions than those found in the literature. Specifically, we require, in addition to the $V$-compactness hypothesis of Larsen and Žitković (2007) (ArXiv: 0706.0474), a local $bmo$ hypothesis, a condition which is seen to always be trivially satisfied in the setting of Larsen and Žitković (2007). For markets of the form $S = M + \int λd<M>$, these conditions are simultaneously implied by the existence of a uniform bound on the norm of $λ\cdot M$ in a suitable $bmo$ space.

On the Stability of Utility Maximization Problems

In this paper we extend the stability results of [4]}. Our utility maximization problem is defined as an essential supremum of conditional expectations of the terminal values of wealth processes, conditioned on the filtration at the stopping time $τ$. To establish our results, we extend the classical results of convex analysis to maps from $L^0$ to $L^0$. The notion of convex compactness introduced in [7] plays an important role in our analysis.
