Gravitational decoupling of generalized Horndeski hybrid stars

Gravitational decoupled compact polytropic hybrid stars are here addressed in generalized Horndeski scalar-tensor gravity. Additional physical properties of hybrid stars are scrutinized and discussed in the gravitational decoupling setup. The asymptotic value of the mass function, the compactness, and the effective radius of gravitational decoupled hybrid stars are studied for both cases of a bosonic and a fermionic prevalent core. These quantities are presented and discussed as functions of Horndeski parameters, the decoupling parameter, the adiabatic index, and the polytropic constant. Important corrections to general relativity and generalized Horndeski scalar-tensor gravity, induced by the gravitational decoupling, comply with available observational data. Particular cases involving white dwarfs, boson stellar configurations, neutron stars, and Einstein-Klein-Gordon solutions, formulated in the gravitational decoupling context, are also scrutinized.

Gravitational decoupling, hairy black holes and conformal anomalies

Hairy black holes in the gravitational decoupling setup are studied from the perspective of conformal anomalies. Fluctuations of decoupled sources can be computed by measuring the way the trace anomaly-to-holographic Weyl anomaly ratio differs from unit. Therefore the gravitational decoupling parameter governing three hairy black hole metrics is then bounded to a range wherein one can reliably emulate AdS/CFT with gravitational decoupled solutions, in the tensor vacuum regime.

Holographic entanglement entropy, deformed black branes, and deconfinement in AdS/QCD

A family of deformed black branes is employed to examine the confinement/deconfinement phase transition in AdS/QCD. The holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) plays the role of the order parameter driving the confinement/deconfinement phase transition. The binding energy of quark-antiquark bound states and the critical length that makes a null variation of the HEE, together with the critical temperature separating the deconfined quark-gluon plasma to the confined hadronic phase, are discussed in the deformed black brane background, matching current experimental hadronic data.

Deploying heavier $η$ meson states: configurational entropy hybridizing AdS/QCD

The meson family of $η$ pseudoscalars is studied in the context of the AdS/QCD correspondence and the differential configurational entropy (DCE). For it, two forms of configurational-entropic Regge-like trajectories are engendered, relating the $η$ mesonic states excitation number to both their experimental mass spectrum in the Particle Data Group (PDG) and the DCE as well. Hence, the mass spectrum of $η$ pseudoscalar mesonic states, beyond the already detected states $η(550)$, $η'(958)$, $η(1295)$, $η(1405)$, $η(1475)$, $η(1760)$, $η(2225)$, and $η(2320)$, is derived for any excitation number. The three first ulterior members of this family are then analyzed and also compared to existing candidates in PDG.

GUP black hole remnants in quadratic gravity

The Hawking radiation of static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat solutions in quadratic gravity, is here explored. The emitted fermions are governed by the Dirac equation in the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) context, that probes the spacetime (quantum) nature. The Hawking thermal spectrum is scrutinized out of the tunnelling method and the WKB procedure. The Hawking flux is shown to vanish for small black holes, for a precise combination of the GUP parameter and the coupling constants that drive the gravitational interaction in quadratic gravity, yielding absolutely stable black hole remnants.

MGD Dirac stars

The method of geometric deformation (MGD) is here employed to study compact stellar configurations, which are solutions of the effective Einstein-Dirac coupled field equations on fluid branes. Non-linear, self-interacting, fermionic fields are then employed to derive MGD Dirac stars, whose properties are analyzed and discussed. The MGD Dirac star maximal mass is shown to increase as an specific function of the spinor self-interaction coupling constant, in a realistic model involving the most strict phenomenological current bounds for the brane tension.

MGD-decoupled black holes, anisotropic fluids and holographic entanglement entropy

The holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) is investigated for a black hole under the minimal geometric deformation (MGD) procedure, created by gravitational decoupling via an anisotropic fluid, in an AdS/CFT on the brane setup. The respective HEE corrections are computed and confronted to the corresponding corrections for both the standard MGD black holes and the Schwarzschild ones.

Nucleons and higher spin baryon resonances: an AdS/QCD configurational entropic incursion

Families of $J^P=1/2+$ nucleons (N(939), N(1440), N(1710), N(1880), N(2100), N(2300)) and $J^P=3/2-$ nucleons (N(1520), N(1700), N(1875) and N(2120)) are scrutinized from the point of view of the configurational entropy (CE). The mass spectra of higher $J^P$ resonances in each one of these families are then obtained when configurational-entropic Regge trajectories, that relate the CE of nucleon families to both their $J^P$ spin and also to their experimental mass spectra, are interpolated. The mass spectra of the next generation of nucleon resonances are then compared to already established baryonic states in PDG. Besides the zero temperature case, the finite temperature analysis is also implemented.

Tensor mesons, AdS/QCD and information

The Kaluza-Klein tower of higher spin-$S$ tensor meson resonances is here scrutinized in the AdS/QCD hard wall model, encompassing the already established resonances $ρ(770)$, $f_2(1270)$, $ω_3(1670)$, $f_4(2050)$, $ρ_5(2350)$, $f_6(2510)$ in PDG. A hybrid model employs both information theory and AdS/QCD, where configurational-entropic Regge trajectories, relating the configurational entropy of the tensor mesons family to their $S$ spin, and also to their experimental mass spectra, are derived and analyzed. Therefore, the mass spectra of higher spin-$S$ tensor meson resonances is obtained and compared to the existing data in PDG.

The minimal of geometric deformation of Yang-Mills-Dirac stellar configurations

The method of minimal geometric deformation (MGD) is used to derive static, strongly gravitating, spherically symmetric, compact stellar distributions that are solutions of the Yang-Mills-Einstein-Dirac coupled field equations, on fluid membranes with finite tension. Their solutions characterize MGD Yang-Mills-Dirac stars, whose mass has order of the Chandrasekhar mass, once the range of both the fermionic self-interaction and the Yang-Mills coupling constants is suitably chosen. Physical features of MGD Yang-Mills-Dirac stars are then discussed, and their ADM mass are derived, as a function of the fermion coupling constant, the finite brane tension, and the Yang-Mills running parameter as well.

A framework to a mass dimension one fermionic sigma model

In this paper a mass dimension one fermionic sigma model, realized by the eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator with dual helicity (Elko spinors), is developed. Such spinors are chosen as a specific realization of mass dimension one spinors, wherein the non-commutative fermionic feature is ruled by torsion. Moreover, we analyse Elko spinors as a source of matter in a background in expansion. Moreover, we analyse Elko spinors as a source of matter in a background in expansion and we have found that such kind of mass dimension one fermions can serve not only as dark matter but they also induce an effective cosmological constant.

Bounds on topological Abelian string-vortex and string-cigar from information-entropic measure

In this work we obtain bounds on the topological Abelian string-vortex and on the string-cigar, by using a new measure of configurational complexity, known as configurational entropy. In this way, the information-theoretical measure of six-dimensional braneworlds scenarios are capable to probe situations where the parameters responsible for the brane thickness are arbitrary. The so-called configurational entropy (CE) selects the best value of the parameter in the model. This is accomplished by minimizing the CE, namely, by selecting the most appropriate parameters in the model that correspond to the most organized system, based upon the Shannon information theory. This information-theoretical measure of complexity provides a complementary perspective to situations where strictly energy-based arguments are inconclusive. We show that the higher the energy the higher the CE, what shows an important correlation between the energy of the a localized field configuration and its associated entropic measure.

Braneworld scenarios from deformed defect chains

Novel braneworld scenarios supported by warp factors driven by a single extra dimension are obtained from deformed one-dimensional lump-like solutions known {\em a priori}. Through a novel {\em ansatz}, the internal energy structure, the braneworld warp factor, and the quantum mechanical analogue problem, as well as the associated zero mode solutions, are straightforwardly derived by means of an analytical procedure. The results allow one to identify thick brane solutions that support internal structures and that can hold the ($3+1$)-dimensional gravity.

Classical Tests of General Relativity: Probing Topologically Charged Black Holes on Brane Worlds in f(R) Bulk

The perihelion precession, the deflection of light, and the radar echo delay are classical tests of General Relativity here used to probe brane world topologically charged black holes in a f(R) bulk and to constrain the parameter that arises from the Shiromizu-Maeda-Sasaki procedure applied to a f(R) bulk as well. The existing Solar system observational data constrain the possible values of the tidal charge parameter and the effective cosmological constant including f(R) brane world effects. We show that the observational/experimental data for both perihelion precession and radar echo delay make the black hole space of parameters to be more strict than the ones for the Dadhich, Maartens, Papadopoulos and Rezania (DMPR) black hole geometry. Furthermore, the deflection of light constrains the tidal charge parameter similarly as the DMPR black holes due to a peculiarity in the equation of motion.

The conditional entropy of glueball states is calculated using a holographic description. Glueball states are represented by a supergravity dual picture, consisting of a 5-dimensional graviton-dilaton action of a dynamical holographic AdS/QCD model. The conditional entropy is studied as a function of the glueball spin and of the mass, providing information about the stability of the glueball states.

Dark Spinors Hawking Radiation in String Theory Black Holes

The Hawking radiation spectrum of Kerr-Sen axion-dilaton black holes is derived, in the context of dark spinors tunnelling across the horizon. Since a black hole has a well defined temperature, it should radiate in principle all the standard model particles, similar to a black body at that temperature. We investigate the tunnelling of mass dimension one spin-1/2 dark fermions, that are beyond the standard model and are prime candidates to the dark matter. Their interactions with the standard model matter and gauge fields are suppressed by at least one power of unification scale, being restricted just to the Higgs field and to the graviton likewise. The tunnelling method for the emission and absorption of mass dimension one particles across the event horizon of Kerr-Sen axion-dilaton black holes is shown here to provide further evidence for the universality of black hole radiation, further encompassing particles beyond the standard model.

Entropic information of dynamical AdS/QCD holographic models

The Shannon based conditional entropy that underlies five-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert gravity coupled to a dilaton field is investigated in the context of dynamical holographic AdS/QCD models. Considering the UV and IR dominance limits of such AdS/QCD models, the conditional entropy is shown to shed some light onto the meson classification schemes, which corroborate with the existence of light-flavour mesons of lower spins in Nature. Our analysis is supported by a correspondence between statistical mechanics and information entropy which establishes the physical grounds to the Shannon information entropy, also in the context of statistical mechanics, and provides some specificities for accurately extending the entropic discussion to continuous modes of physical systems. From entropic informational grounds, the conditional entropy allows one to identify the lower experimental/phenomenological occurrence of higher spin mesons in Nature. Moreover, it introduces a quantitative theoretical apparatus for studying the instability of high spin light-flavour mesons.

Fluid/gravity correspondence and the CFM black brane solutions

We consider the lower bound for the shear viscosity-to-entropy density ratio, obtained from the fluid/gravity correspondence, in order to constrain the post-Newtonian parameter of brane-world metrics. In particular, we analyse the Casadio-Fabbri-Mazzacurati (CFM) effective solutions for the gravity side of the correspondence and argue that including higher order terms in the hydrodynamic expansion can lead to a full agreement with the experimental bounds, for the Eddington-Robertson-Schiff post-Newtonian parameter in the CFM metrics. This lends further support to the physical relevance of the viscosity-to-entropy ratio lower bound and fluid/gravity correspondence. Hence we show that CFM black branes are, effectively, Schwarzschild black branes.

Matter localization on brane-worlds generated by deformed defects

Localization and mass spectrum of bosonic and fermionic matter fields of some novel families of asymmetric thick brane configurations generated by deformed defects are investigated. The localization profiles of spin 0, spin 1/2 and spin 1 bulk fields are identified for novel matter field potentials supported by thick branes with internal structures. The condition for localization is constrained by the brane thickness of each model such that thickest branes strongly induces matter localization. The bulk mass terms for both fermion and boson fields are included in the global action as to produce some imprints on mass-independent potentials of the Kaluza-Klein modes associated to the corresponding Schrödinger equations. In particular, for spin 1/2 fermions, a complete analytical profile of localization is obtained for the four classes of superpotentials here discussed. Regarding the localization of fermion fields, our overall conclusion indicates that thick branes produce a left-right asymmetric chiral localization of spin 1/2 particles.

New fermions in the bulk

Spinor fields on 5-dimensional Lorentzian manifolds are classified, according to the geometric Fierz identities that involve their bilinear covariants. Based upon this classification that generalises the celebrated 4-dimensional Lounesto classification of spinor fields, new non-trivial classes of 5-dimensional spinor fields are, hence, found, with important potential applications regarding bulk fermions and their subsequent localisation on brane-worlds. In addition, quaternionic bilinear covariants are used to derive the quaternionic spin density, through the truncated exterior bundle. In order to accomplish a realisation of these new spinors, a Killing vector field is constructed on the horizon of 5-dimensional Kerr black holes. This Killing vector field is shown to reach the time-like Killing vector field at the spatial infinity, through a current 1-form density, constructed with the derived new spinor fields. The current density is, moreover, expressed as the fünfbein components, assuming a condensed form.

New Spinor Fields on Lorentzian 7-Manifolds

This paper deals with the classification of spinor fields according to the bilinear covariants in 7 dimensions. The previously investigated Riemannian case is characterized by either one spinor field class, in the real case of Majorana spinors, or three non-trivial classes in the most general complex case. In this paper we show that by imposing appropriate conditions on spinor fields in 7d manifolds with Lorentzian metric, the formerly obtained obstructions for new classes of spinor fields can be circumvented. New spinor fields classes are then explicitly constructed. In particular, on 7-manifolds with asymptotically flat black hole background, these spinors can define a generalized current density which further defines a time Killing vector at the spatial infinity.

Perturbatively deformed defects in Pöschl-Teller-driven scenarios for quantum mechanics

Pöschl-Teller-driven solutions for quantum mechanical fluctuations are triggered off by single scalar field theories obtained through a systematic perturbative procedure for generating deformed defects. The analytical properties concerning the quantum fluctuations in one-dimension, zero-mode states, first- and second- excited states, and energy density profiles are all obtained from deformed topological and non-topological structures supported by real scalar fields. Results are firstly derived from an integrated $λϕ^4$ theory, with corresponding generalizations applied to starting $λχ^4$ and {\em sine}-Gordon theories. By focusing our calculations on structures supported by the $λϕ^4$ theory, the outcome of our study suggests an exact quantitative correspondence to Pöschl-Teller-driven systems. Embedded into the perturbative quantum mechanics framework, such a correspondence turns into a helpful tool for computing excited states and continuous mode solutions, as well as their associated energy spectrum, for quantum fluctuations of perturbatively deformed structures. Perturbative deformations create distinct physical scenarios in the context of exactly solvable quantum systems and may also work as an analytical support for describing novel braneworld universes embedded into a $5$-dimensional gravity bulks.

Stability of a tachyon braneworld

Within the braneworld paradigm the tachyonic scalar field has been used to generate models that attempt to solve some of the open problems that physics faces nowadays, both in cosmology and high energy physics as well. When these field configurations are produced by the interplay of higher dimensional warped gravity with some matter content, braneworld models must prove to be {\it stable} under the whole set of small fluctuations of the gravitational and matter fields background, among other consistency tests. Here we present a complete proof of the stability under scalar perturbations of tachyonic thick braneworlds with an embedded maximally symmetric 4D space-time, revealing its physical consistency. This family of models contains a recently reported tachyonic de Sitter thick braneworld which possesses a series of appealing properties. These features encompass complete regularity, asymptotic flatness (instead of being asymptotically dS or AdS) even when it contains a negative bulk cosmological constant, a relevant 3-brane with dS metric which naturally arises from the full set of field equations of the 5D background (it is not imposed), qualitatively describing the inflationary epochs of our Universe, and a graviton spectrum with a single zero mode bound state that accounts for the 4D graviton localised on the brane and is separated from the continuum of Kaluza-Klein massive graviton excitations by a mass gap. Gauge vector fields with a single massless bound state in its mass spectrum are also localised on this braneworld model a fact that allows us to recover the Coulomb's law of our 4D world. All these properties of the above referred tachyonic braneworld together with the positive stability analysis provided in this work, constitute a firm step towards the construction of realistic cosmological models within the braneworld paradigm.

Stability of the graviton Bose-Einstein condensate in the brane-world

We consider a solution of the effective four-dimensional Einstein equations, obtained from the general relativistic Schwarzschild metric through the principle of Minimal Geometric Deformation (MGD). Since the brane tension can, in general, introduce new singularities on a relativistic Eötvös brane model in the MGD framework, we require the absence of observed singularities, in order to constrain the brane tension. We then study the corresponding Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) gravitational system and determine the critical stability region of BEC MGD stellar configurations. Finally, the critical stellar densities are shown to be related with critical points of the information entropy.

Strong Deflection Limit Lensing Effects in the Minimal Geometric Deformation and Casadio-Fabbri-Mazzacurati Solutions

In this paper we apply the strong deflection limit approach to investigate the gravitational lensing phenomena beyond general relativity. This is accomplished by considering the lensing effects related to black hole solutions that emerge out of the domain of Einstein gravity, namely, the ones acquired from the method of geometric deformation and the Casadio-Fabbri-Mazzacurati brane-world black holes. The lensing observables, for those brane-world black hole metrics, are compared with the standard ones for the Schwarzschild case. We prove that brane-world black holes could have significantly different observational signatures, compared to the Schwarzschild black hole, with terms containing the post-Newtonian parameter, for the case of the Casadio-Fabbri-Mazzacurati, and terms with variable brane-world tension, for the method of geometric deformation.

Ultra high energy cosmic rays and possible signature of black strings

Ultra high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) probably originate in extreme conditions in which extra dimension effects might be important. In this paper we calculate the correction in black hole accretion mechanisms due to extra dimension effects in the static and rotating cases. A parametrization of the external Kerr horizons in both cases is presented and analysed. We use previous calculations of upper limits on the UHECR flux to set limits on the UHECR production efficiency of nine sources. The upper limit on the UHECR luminosity calculation is based on GeV-TeV gamma-ray measurements. The total luminosity due to the accretion mechanism is compared to the upper limit on UHECRs. The dependence of the UHECR production efficiency upper limit on black hole mass is also presented and discussed

Charge varying sine-Gordon deformed defects

Sine-Gordon deformed defects that exhibit unusual phenomenological features on the topological charge are investigated. The possibility of a smooth and continuous transition between topological (non null charge) and non-topological (null charge) scenarios of deformed defects supported by sine-Gordon structures is evinced by the analytical calculation of topological charges and localized energy distributions. By describing cyclic deformation chains, we show that a triggering sine-Gordon model simultaneously supports kink and lump-like defects, whose topological mass values are closed by trigonometric or hyperbolic successive deformations. In spite of preserving analytical closure relations constraining the topological masses of $3$-and $4$-cyclically deformed defects, the deformation chains produce kinks and lumps which exhibit non-monotonic behavior and extra inflection points, respectively. The outcome of our analysis suggests that cyclic deformations create novel scenarios of physical and mathematical applicability of defect structures supported by the sine-Gordon theory.

We consider a solution of the effective four-dimensional brane-world equations, obtained from the General Relativistic Schwarzschild metric via the principle of Minimal Geometric Deformation, and investigate the corresponding signatures stemming from the possible existence of a warped extra dimension. In particular, we derive bounds on an extra-dimensional parameter, closely related with the fundamental gravitational length, from the experimental results of the classical tests of General Relativity in the Solar system.

Configurational Entropy in Brane-world Models: A New Approach to Stability

In this work we investigate the entropic information on thick brane-worlds scenarios and its consequences. The brane-world entropic information is studied for the sine-Gordon model is and hence the brane-world entropic information measure is shown an accurate way for providing the most suitable values for the bulk AdS curvature. Besides, the brane-world configurational entropy is employed to demonstrate a high organisational degree in the structure of the system configuration, for large values of a parameter of the sine-Gordon model but the one related to the AdS curvature. The Gleiser and Stamatopoulos procedure is finally applied in order to achieve a precise correlation between the energy of the system and the brane-world configurational entropy.

D-Oscillons in the Standard Model-Extension

In this work we investigate the consequences of the Lorentz symmetry violation on extremely long-living, time-dependent, and spatially localized field configurations, named oscillons. This is accomplished in ($D+1$) dimensions for two interacting scalar field theories in the so-called Standard Model-Extension context. We show that $D$-dimensional scalar field lumps can present a typical size $R_{\min }\ll R_{KK}$, where $R_{KK}$ is the associated length scale of extra dimensions in Kaluza-Klein theories. Here, the size $R_{\min }$ is shown to strongly depend on the terms that control the Lorentz violation of the theory. This implies either contraction or dilation of the average radius $R_{\min}$, and a new rule for its composition, likewise. Moreover, we show that the spatial dimensions for existence of oscillating lumps have an upper limit, opening new possibilities to probe the existence of a $D$ -dimensional oscillons at TeV energy scale. Moreover, in a cosmological scenario with Lorentz symmetry breaking, we argue that in the early Universe with an extremely high energy density and a strong Lorentz violation, the typical size $R_{\min }$ was highly dilated. With the expansion and subsequent cooling of the Universe, we propose that it passed through a phase transition towards a Lorentz symmetry, wherein $R_{\min }$ tends to be compact.

Information content in $F(R)$ brane models with non-constant curvature

In this work we investigate the entropic information-measure in the context of braneworlds with non-constant curvature. The braneworld entropic information is studied for gravity modified by the squared of the Ricci scalar, besides the usual Einstein-Hilbert term. We showed that the minimum value of the brane configurational entropy provides a stricter bound on the parameter that is responsible for the $F(R)$ model to differ from the Einstein-Hilbert standard one. Our results are moreover consistent to a negative bulk cosmological constant.

Information-Entropic for Travelling Solitons in Lorentz and CPT Breaking Systems

In this work we group three research topics apparently disconnected, namely solitons, Lorentz symmetry breaking and entropy. Following a recent work [Phys. Lett. B 713 (2012) 304], we show that it is possible to construct in the context of travelling wave solutions a configurational entropy measure in functional space, from the field configurations. Thus, we investigate the existence and properties of travelling solitons in Lorentz and CPT breaking scenarios for a class of models with two interacting scalar fields. Here, we obtain a complete set of exact solutions for the model studied which display both double and single-kink configurations. In fact, such models are very important in applications that include Bloch branes, Skyrmions, Yang-Mills, Q-balls, oscillons and various superstring-motivated theories. We find that the so-called Configurational Entropy (CE) for travelling solitons, which we name as travelling Configurational Entropy (TCE), shows that the best value of parameter responsible to break the Lorentz symmetry is one where the energy density is distributed equally around the origin. In this way, the information-theoretical measure of travelling solitons in Lorentz symmetry violation scenarios opens a new window to probe situations where the parameters responsible for breaking the symmetries are random. In this case, the TCE selects the best value.

Questing for Algebraic Mass Dimension One Spinor Fields

This work deals with new classes of spinors of mass dimension one in Minkowski spacetime. In order to accomplish it, the Lounesto classification scheme and the inversion theorem are going to be used. The algebraic framework shall be revisited by explicating the central point performed by the Fierz aggregate. Then the spinor classification is generalized in order to encompass the new mass dimension one spinors. The spinor operator is shown to play a prominent role to engender the new mass dimension one spinors, accordingly.

Regular Bulk Solutions in Brane-worlds with Inhomogeneous Dust and Generalized Dark Radiation

From the dynamics of a brane-world with matter fields present in the bulk, the bulk metric and the black string solution near the brane are generalized, when both the dynamics of inhomogeneous dust/generalized dark radiation on the brane-world and inhomogeneous dark radiation in the bulk as well are considered -- as exact dynamical collapse solutions. Based on the analysis on the inhomogeneous static exterior of a collapsing sphere of homogeneous dark radiation on the brane, the associated black string warped horizon is studied, as well as the 5D bulk metric near the brane. Moreover, the black string and the bulk are shown to be more regular upon time evolution, for suitable values for the dark radiation parameter in the model, by analyzing the physical soft singularities.

The Minimal Geometric Deformation Approach Extended

The minimal geometric deformation approach was introduced in order to study the exterior space-time around spherically symmetric self-gravitating systems, like stars or similar astrophysical objects as well, in the Randall-Sundrum brane-world framework. A consistent extension of this approach is developed here, which contains modifications of both the time component and the radial component of a spherically symmetric metric. A modified Schwarzschild geometry is obtained as an example of its simplest application, and a new solution potentially useful to describe stars in the brane-world is also presented.

A Note on Asymmetric Thick Branes

In this work we study asymmetric thick braneworld scenarios, generated after adding a constant to the superpotential associated to the scalar field. We study in particular models with odd and even polynomial superpotentials, and we show that asymmetric brane can be generated irrespective of the potential being symmetric or asymmetric. We study in addition the nonpolynomial sine-Gordon-like model, also constructed with the inclusion of a constant in the standard superpotential, and we investigate gravitational stability of the asymmetric brane. The results suggest robustness of the new braneworld scenarios and add further possibilities for the construction of asymmetric branes.

Bilinear Covariants and Spinor Fields Duality in Quantum Clifford Algebras

Classification of quantum spinor fields according to quantum bilinear covariants is introduced in a context of quantum Clifford algebras on Minkowski spacetime. Once the bilinear covariants are expressed in terms of algebraic spinor fields, the duality between spinor and quantum spinor fields is thus discussed. Hence, by endowing the underlying spacetime with an arbitrary bilinear form with a antisymmetric part in addition to a symmetric spacetime metric, quantum algebraic spinor fields and deformed bilinear covariants can be constructed. They are therefore compared to the classical (non quantum) ones. Classes of quantum spinor fields are introduced and compared with Lounesto's spinor field classification. A physical interpretation of the deformed parts and the underlying Z-grading is proposed. The existence of an arbitrary bilinear form endowing the spacetime already has been explored in the literature in the context of quantum gravity. Here, it is shown further to play a prominent role in the structure of Dirac, Weyl, and Majorana spinor fields, besides the most general flagpoles, dipoles and flag-dipoles ones as well. We introduce a new duality between the standard and the quantum spinor fields, by showing that when Clifford algebras over vector spaces endowed with an arbitrary bilinear form are taken into account, a mixture among the classes does occur. Consequently, novel features regarding the spinor fields can be derived.

Gauge Fixing in the Maxwell Like Gravitational Theory in Minkowski Spacetime and in the Equivalent Lorentzian Spacetime

In a previous paper we investigate a Lagrangian field theory for the gravitational field (which is there represented by a section g^a of the orthonormal coframe bundle over Minkowski spacetime. Such theory, under appropriate conditions, has been proved to be equivalent to a Lorentzian spacetime structure, where the metric tensor satisfies Einstein field equations. Here, we first recall that according to quantum field theory ideas gravitation is described by a Lagrangian theory of a possible massive graviton field (generated by matter fields and coupling also to itself) living in Minkowski spacetime. The graviton field is moreover supposed to be represented by a symmetric tensor field h carrying the representations of spin two and zero of the Lorentz group. Such a field, then (as it is well known), must necessarily satisfy the gauge condition given by Eq.(3) below. Next, we introduce an ansatz relating h to the 1-form fields g^a. Then, using the Clifford bundle formalism we derive, from our Lagrangian theory, the exact wave equation for the graviton and investigate the role of the gauge condition given by Eq.(3) in obtaining a reliable conservation law for the energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational plus the matter fields in Minkowski spacetime. Finally we ask the question: does Eq.(3) fix any gauge condition for the field g of the effective Lorentzian spacetime structure that represents the field h in our theory? We show that no gauge condition is fixed a priory, as is the case in General Relativity. Moreover we investigate under which conditions we may fix Logunov gauge condition.

Hawking Radiation from Elko Particles Tunnelling across Black Strings Horizon

We apply the tunnelling method for the emission and absorption of Elko particles in the event horizon of a black string solution. We show that Elko particles are emitted at the expected Hawking temperature from black strings, but with a quite different signature with respect to the Dirac particles. We employ the Hamilton-Jacobi technique to black hole tunnelling, by applying the WKB approximation to the coupled system of Dirac-like equations governing the Elko particle dynamics. As a typical signature, different Elko particles are shown to produce the same standard Hawking temperature for black strings. However we prove that they present the same probability irrespective of outgoing or ingoing the black hole horizon. It provides a typical signature for mass dimension one fermions, that is different from the mass dimension three halves fermions inherent to Dirac particles, as different Dirac spinor fields have distinct inward and outward probability of tunnelling.

Regular Bulk Solutions and Black Strings from Dynamical Braneworlds with Variable Tension

Regular black strings solutions associated to a dynamical Friedmann-Robertson-Walker braneworld are obtained as a particular case of a regular bulk metric, in the context of a variable brane tension. By analyzing the 5D Kretschmann invariants, we show that the variable brane tension is capable to remove bulk singularities, along some eras of the evolution of the Universe. In particular, the black string time-dependent profile in the bulk is analyzed in the context of the McVittie metric on an Eötvös fluid braneworld, wherein the fluid dynamical brane tension depends on the brane temperature. The whole bulk is shown to be regular for a Universe dominated by non-relativistic matter or by relativistic matter/radiation, as the cosmological time elapses. In a particular case the associated black strings are shown to have finite extension along the extra dimension, what prominently modify the higher-dimensional physical singularities. For a Universe dominated by matter or radiation, we show that the brane singularities are removed along the extra dimension, as an effect of the variable brane tension, corresponding also to the vanishing of the black string horizon. In this case there is a regular solution in the bulk. We show further that no additional physical singularity is introduced in the bulk when the Universe is dominated by a cosmological constant.

Spherically Symmetric Thick Branes Cosmological Evolution

Spherically symmetric time-dependent solutions for the 5D system of a scalar field canonically coupled to gravity are obtained and identified as an extension of recent results obtained by Ahmed, Grzadkowskia and Wudkab. The corresponding cosmology of models with regularized branes generated by such a 5D scalar field scenario is also investigated. It has been shown that the anisotropic evolution of the warp factor and consequently the Hubble like parameter are both driven by the radial coordinate on the brane, which leads to an emergent thick brane-world scenario with spherically symmetric time dependent warp factor. Meanwhile, the separability of variables depending on fifth dimension, y, which is exhibited by the equations of motion, allows one to recover the extra dimensional profiles obtained in the literature, namely the extra dimensional part of the scale (warp) factor and the scalar field dependence on y. Therefore, our results are mainly concerned with the time dependence of a spherically symmetric warp factor. Besides evincing possibilities for obtaining asymmetric stable brane-world scenarios, the extra dimensional profiles here obtained can also be reduced to those ones investigated in the literature.

Spinor Fields Classification in Arbitrary Dimensions and New Classes of Spinor Fields on 7-Manifolds

A classification of spinor fields according to the associated bilinear covariants is constructed in arbitrary dimensions and metric signatures, generalizing Lounesto's 4D spinor field classification. In such a generalized classification a basic role is played by the geometric Fierz identities. In 4D Minkowski spacetime the standard bilinear covariants can be either null or non-null -- with the exception of the current density which is invariably different from zero for physical reasons -- and sweep all types of spinor fields, including Dirac, Weyl, Majorana and more generally flagpoles, flag-dipoles and dipole spinor fields. To obtain an analogous classification in higher dimensions we use the Fierz identities, which constrain the covariant bilinears in the spinor fields and force some of them to vanish. A generalized graded Fierz aggregate is moreover obtained in such a context simply from the completeness relation. We analyze the particular and important case of Riemannian 7-manifolds, where the Majorana spinor fields turn out to have a quite special place. In particular, at variance with spinor fields in 4D Minkowski spacetime that are classified in six disjoint classes, spinors in Riemannian 7-manifolds are shown to be classified, according to the bilinear covariants: (a) in just one class, in the real case of Majorana spinors; (b) in four classes, in the most general case. Much like new classes of spinor fields in 4D Minkowski spacetime have been evincing new possibilities in physics, we think these new classes of spinor fields in seven dimensions are, in particular, potential candidates for new solutions in the compactification of supergravity on a seven-dimensional manifold and its exotic versions.

Study of field fluctuations and their localization in a thick braneworld generated by gravity non-minimally coupled to a scalar field with the Gauss-Bonnet term

In this work we study a scenario with a warped 5D smooth braneworld with 4D Minkowski geometry builded from bulk scalar matter non-minimally coupled to gravity with an additional Gauss-Bonnet term. We present exact solutions for the full braneworld configuration in contrast to previous results where only approximate solutions were constructed due to the highly non-linear character of the relevant differential equations. These solutions allow us to study the necessary conditions for the finiteness of the 4D Planck mass and additionally, enables us to perform a more rigorous analysis of 4D gravity localization compared to approximate approaches. It is remarkable that all the constructed braneworld configurations lead to standard 4D gravity localization since they contain a localized massless tensor mode (the graviton). We also analyze the localization properties of scalar, vector and tensor fluctuation modes for the constructed field configurations. We show that for the considered backgrounds, only the massless tensor mode, i.e. the 4D graviton, is localized on the brane, while the vector and scalar modes are not confined to the brane.

A de Sitter tachyon thick braneworld

Among the multiple 5D thick braneworld models that have been proposed in the last years, in order to address several open problems in modern physics, there is a specific one involving a tachyonic bulk scalar field. Delving into this framework, a thick braneworld with a cosmological background induced on the brane is here investigated. The respective field equations --- derived from the model with a warped 5D geometry --- are highly non-linear equations, admitting a non-trivial solution for the warp factor and the tachyon scalar field as well, in a de Sitter 4D cosmological background. Moreover, the non-linear tachyonic scalar field, that generates the brane in complicity with warped gravity, has the form of a kink-like configuration. Notwithstanding, the non-linear field equations restricting character does not allow one to easily find thick brane solutions with a decaying warp factor which leads to the localization of 4D gravity and other matter fields. We derive such a thick brane configuration altogether in this tachyon-gravity setup. When analyzing the spectrum of gravity fluctuations in the transverse traceless sector, the 4D gravity is shown to be localized due to the presence of a {\it single} zero mode bound state, separated by a continuum of massive Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes by a mass gap. It contrasts with previous results, where there is a KK massive bound excitation providing no clear physical interpretation. The mass gap is determined by the scale of the metric parameter $H$. Finally, the corrections to Newton's law in this model are computed and shown to decay exponentially. It is in full compliance to corrections reported in previous results (up to a constant factor) within similar braneworlds with induced 4D de Sitter metric, despite the fact that the warp factor and the massive modes have a different form.

Black holes in realistic branes: black string-like objects?

A realistic model describing a black string-like object in an expanding Universe is analyzed in the context of the McVittie's solution of the Einstein field equations. The bulk metric near the brane is provided analogously to previous solutions for black strings. In particular, we show that at least when the Hubble parameter on the brane is positive, a black string-like object seems to play a fundamental role in the braneworld scenario, generalizing the standard black strings in the context of a dynamical brane.

Black Strings from Minimal Geometric Deformation in a Variable Tension Brane-World

We study brane-world models with variable brane tension and compute corrections to the horizon of a black string along the extra dimension. The four-dimensional geometry of the black string on the brane is obtained by means of the minimal geometric deformation approach, and the bulk corrections are then encoded in additional terms involving the covariant derivatives of the variable brane tension. Our investigation shows that the variable brane tension strongly affects the shape and evolution of the black string horizon along the extra dimension, at least in a near-brane expansion. In particular, we apply our general analysis to a model motivated by the Eötvös branes, where the variable brane tension is related to the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker brane-world cosmology. We show that for some stages in the evolution of the universe, the black string warped horizon collapses to a point and the black string has correspondingly finite extent along the extra dimension. Furthermore, we show that in the minimal geometric deformation of a black hole on the variable tension brane, the black string has a throat along the extra dimension, whose area tends to zero as time goes to infinity.

Casadio-Fabbri-Mazzacurati Black Strings and Braneworld-induced Quasars Luminosity Corrections

This paper aims to evince the corrections on the black string warped horizon in the braneworld paradigm, and their drastic physical consequences, as well as to provide subsequent applications in astrophysics. Our analysis concerning black holes on the brane departs from the Schwarzschild case, where the black string is unstable to large-scale perturbation. The cognizable measurability of the black string horizon corrections due to braneworld effects is investigated, as well as their applications in the variation of quasars luminosity. We delve into the case wherein two solutions of Einstein's equations proposed by Casadio, Fabbri, and Mazzacurati, regarding black hole metrics presenting a post-Newtonian parameter measured on the brane. In this scenario, it is possible to analyze purely the braneworld corrected variation in quasars luminosity, by an appropriate choice of the post-Newtonian parameter that precludes Hawking radiation on the brane: the variation in quasars luminosity is uniquely provided by pure braneworld effects, as the Hawking radiation on the brane is suppressed.

Cyclically deformed defects and topological mass constraints

A systematic procedure for obtaining defect structures through cyclic deformation chains is introduced and explored in detail. The procedure outlines a set of rules for analytically constructing constraint equations that involve the finite localized energy of cyclically generated defects. The idea of obtaining cyclically deformed defects concerns the possibility of regenerating a primitive (departing) defect structure through successive, unidirectional, and eventually irreversible, deformation processes. Our technique is applied on kink-like and lump-like solutions in models described by a single real scalar field, such that extensions to quantum mechanics follow the usual theory of deformed defects. The preliminary results show that the cyclic device supports simultaneously kink-like and lump-like defects into 3- and 4-cyclic deformation chains with topological mass values closed by trigonometric and hyperbolic deformations. In a straightforward generalization, results concerning with the analytical calculation of $N$-cyclic deformations are obtained and lessons regarding extensions from more elaborated primitive defects are depicted.

Flag-Dipole Spinor Fields in ESK Gravities

We consider the Riemann-Cartan geometry as a basis for the Einstein-Sciama-Kibble theory coupled to spinor fields: we focus on $f(R)$ and conformal gravities, regarding the flag-dipole spinor fields, type-(4) spinor fields under the Lounesto classification. We study such theories in specific cases given for instance by cosmological scenarios: we find that in such background the Dirac equation admits solutions that are not Dirac spinor fields, but in fact the aforementioned flag-dipoles ones. These solutions are important from a theoretical perspective, as they evince that spinor fields are not necessarily determined by their dynamics, but also a discussion on their structural (algebraic) properties must be carried off. Furthermore, the phenomenological point of view is shown to be also relevant, since for isotropic Universes they circumvent the question whether spinor fields do undergo the Cosmological Principle.

Study of models of the sine-Gordon type in flat and curved spacetime

We study a new family of models of the sine-Gordon type, starting from the sine-Gordon model, including the double sine-Gordon, the triple one, and so on. The models appears as deformations of the starting model, with the deformation controlled by two parameters, one very small, used to control a linear expansion on it, and the other, which specifies the particular model in the family of models. We investigate the presence of topological defects, showing how the solutions can be constructed explicitly from the topological defects of the sine-Gordon model itself. In particular, we delve into the double sine-Gordon model in a braneworld scenario with a single extra dimension of infinite extent, showing that a stable gravity scenario is admissible. Also, we briefly show that the deformation procedure can be used iteratively, leading to a diversity of possibilities to construct families of models of the sine-Gordon type.

Black string corrections in variable tension braneworld scenarios

Braneworld models with variable tension are investigated, and the corrections on the black string horizon along the extra dimension are provided. Such corrections are encrypted in additional terms involving the covariant derivatives of the variable tension on the brane, providing profound consequences concerning the black string horizon variation along the extra dimension, near the brane. The black string horizon behavior is shown to be drastically modified by the terms corrected by the brane variable tension. In particular, a model motivated by the phenomenological interesting case regarding Eotvos branes is investigated. It forthwith provides further physical features regarding variable tension braneworld scenarios, heretofore concealed in all previous analysis in the literature. All precedent analysis considered uniquely the expansion of the metric up to the second order along the extra dimension, what is able to evince solely the brane variable tension absolute value. Notwithstanding, the expansion terms aftermath, further accomplished in this paper from the third order on, elicits the successive covariant derivatives of the brane variable tension, and their respective coupling with the extrinsic curvature, the Weyl tensor, and the Riemann and Ricci tensors, as well as the scalar curvature. Such additional terms are shown to provide sudden modifications in the black string horizon in a variable tension braneworld scenario

Dynamical dispersion relation for ELKO dark spinor fields

An intrinsic mass generation mechanism for exotic ELKO dark matter fields is scrutinized, in the context of the very special relativity (VSR). Our results are reported on unraveling inequivalent spin structures that educe an additional term on the associated Dirac operator. Contrary to the spinor fields of mass dimension 3/2, this term is precluded to be absorbed as a shift of some gauge vector potential, regarding the equations for the dark spinor fields. It leads to some dynamical constraints that can be intrinsically converted into a dark spinor mass generation mechanism, with the encoded symmetries maintained by the VSR. The dynamical mass is embedded in the VSR framework through a natural coupling to the kink solution of a λϕ^{4} theory for a scalar field ϕ. Our results evince the possibility of novel effective scenarios, derived from exotic couplings among dark spinor fields and scalar field topological solutions.

Effective Monopoles within Thick Branes

The monopole mass is revealed to be considerably modified in the thick braneworld paradigm, and depends on the position of the monopole in the brane as well. Accordingly, the monopole radius continuously increases, leading to an unacceptable setting that can be circumvented when the brane thickness has an upper limit. Despite such peculiar behavior, the quantum corrections accrued -- involving the classical monopole solution -- are shown to be still under control. We analyze the monopole's peculiarities also taking into account the localization of the gauge fields. Furthermore, some additional analysis in the thick braneworld context and the similar behavior evinced by the topological string are investigated.

Gravity with extra dimensions and dark matter interpretation: A straightforward approach

Any connection between dark matter and extra dimensions can be cognizably evinced from the associated effective energy-momentum tensor. In order to investigate and test such relationship, a higher dimensional spacetime endowed with a factorizable general metric is regarded to derive a general expression for the stress tensor -- from the Einstein-Hilbert action -- and to elicit the effective gravitational potential. A particular construction for the case of six dimensions is provided, and it is forthwith revealed that the missing mass phenomenon may be explained, irrespective of the dark matter existence. Moreover, the existence of extra dimensions in the universe accrues the possibility of a straightforward mechanism for such explanation. A configuration which density profile coincides with the Newtonian potential for spiral galaxies is constructed, from a 4-dimensional isotropic metric plus extra-dimensional components. A Miyamoto-Nagai \emph{ansatz} is used to solve Einstein equations. The stable rotation curves associated to such system are computed, in full compliance to the observational data, without fitting techniques. The density profiles are reconstructed and compared to that ones obtained from the Newtonian potential.

Schwarzschild generalized black hole horizon and the embedding space

By performing a Taylor expansion along the extra dimension of a metric describing a black hole on a brane, we explore the influence of the embedding space on the black hole horizon. In particular, it is shown that the existence of a Kottler correction of the black hole on the brane, in a viable braneworld scenario, might represent the radius of the black string collapsing to zero, for some point(s) on the black string axis of symmetry along the extra dimension. Further scrutiny on such black hole corrections by braneworld effects is elicited, the well-known results in the literature are recovered as limiting cases, and we assert and show that when the radius of the black string transversal section is zero, as one moves away from the brane into the bulk, is indeed a singularity.

The Maxwell and Navier-Stokes that Follow from Einstein Equation in a Spacetime Containing a Killing Vector Field

In this paper we are concerned to reveal that any spacetime structure <M,[g]<LaTeX>\slg</LaTeX>,D,τ_{[sg]<LaTeX>\sslg</LaTeX>},\uparrow>, which is a model of a gravitational field in General Relativity generated by an energy-momentum tensor T --- and which contains at least one nontrivial Killing vector field A --- is such that the 2-form field F=dA (where A=[g]<LaTeX>\slg</LaTeX>(A,)) satisfies a Maxwell like equation --- with a well determined current that contains a term of the superconducting type--- which follows directly from Einstein equation. Moreover, we show that the resulting Maxwell like equations, under an additional condition imposed to the Killing vector field, may be written as a Navier-Stokes like equation as well. As a result, we have a set consisting of Einstein, Maxwell and Navier-Stokes equations that follows sequentially from the first one under precise mathematical conditions and once some identifications about field variables are evinced, as detailed explained throughout the text. We compare and emulate our results with others on the same subject appearing in the literature.

Exotic Dark Spinor Fields

Exotic dark spinor fields are introduced and investigated in the context of inequivalent spin structures on arbitrary curved spacetimes, which induces an additional term on the associated Dirac operator, related to a Cech cohomology class. For the most kinds of spinor fields, any exotic term in the Dirac operator can be absorbed and encoded as a shift of the electromagnetic vector potential representing an element of the cohomology group H^1(M, Z_2). The possibility of concealing such an exotic term does not exist in case of dark (ELKO) spinor fields, as they cannot carry electromagnetic charge, so that the full topological analysis must be evaluated. Since exotic dark spinor fields also satisfy Klein-Gordon propagators, the dynamical constraints related to the exotic term in the Dirac equation can be explicitly calculated. It forthwith implies that the non-trivial topology associated to the spacetime can drastically engender --- from the dynamics of dark spinor fields --- constraints in the spacetime metric structure. Meanwhile, such constraints may be alleviated, at the cost of constraining the exotic spacetime topology. Besides being prime candidates to the dark matter problem, dark spinor fields are shown to be potential candidates to probe non-trivial topologies in spacetime, as well as probe the spacetime metric structure.

Generalized non-associative structures on the 7-sphere

In this paper we provide a more general class of non-associative products using the exterior and Clifford bundles on the 7-sphere. Some additional properties encompass previous formalisms in the Clifford algebra context, and wider classes of non-associative structures on the 7-sphere are investigated, evinced by the directional non-associative products and the mixed composition of generalized non-associative products between Clifford algebra multivectors. These non-associative products are further generalized by considering the non-associative shear of arbitrary Clifford bundle Cl(0,7) elements into octonions. We assert new properties inherited from the non-associative structure introduced in the whole Clifford bundle on S7, which naturally induce involutions on the Clifford bundle and provide immediate generalizations concerning well-established formal results and potential applications in physics.

Gravitational constraints of dS branes in AdS Einstein-Brans-Dicke bulk

We derive the full projected Einstein-Brans-Dicke gravitational equations associated with a n-dimensional brane embedded in a (n+1)-dimensional bulk. By making use of general conditions, as the positivity of the Brans-Dicke parameter and the effective Newton gravitational constant as well, we are able to constrain the brane cosmological constant in terms of the brane tension, the Brans-Dicke scalar field, and the trace of the stress tensor on the brane, in order to achieve a $dS$ brane. Applying these constraints to a specific five-dimensional model, a lower bound for the scalar field on the brane is elicited without solving the full equations. It is shown under which conditions the brane effective cosmological constant can be ignored in the brane projected gravitational field equations, suggesting a different fine tuning between the brane tension and the bulk cosmological.

Nonlinear Gravitational Waves: Their Form and Effects

A gravitational wave must be nonlinear to be able to transport its own source, that is, energy and momentum. A physical gravitational wave, therefore, cannot be represented by a solution to a linear wave equation. The effects they produce on free particles are found to consist of nonlinear oscillations along the direction of propagation.

Possible Generalizations within Braneworld Scenarios: Torsion fields

In this Chapter we introduce the aspects in which torsion can influence the formalism of braneworld scenarios in general, and also how it is possible to measure such kind of effects, namely, for instance, the blackstring transverse area corrections and variation of quasar luminosity due to those corrections. We analyze the projected effective Einstein equation in a 4-dimensional arbitrary manifold embedded in a 5-dimensional Riemann-Cartan manifold. The Israel-Darmois matching conditions are investigated, in the context where the torsion discontinuity is orthogonal to the brane. Unexpectedly, the presence of torsion terms in the connection does not modify such conditions whatsoever, despite of the modification in the extrinsic curvature and in the connection. Then, by imposing the Z2-symmetry, the Einstein equation obtained via Gauss-Codazzi formalism is extended, in order to now encompass the torsion terms. We also show that the factors involving contorsion change drastically the effective Einstein equation on the brane, as well as the effective cosmological constant. Also, we present gravitational aspects of braneworld models endowed with torsion terms both in the bulk and on the brane. In order to investigate a conceivable and measurable gravitational effect, arising genuinely from bulk torsion terms, we analyze the variation in the black hole area by the presence of torsion. Furthermore, we extend the well known results about consistency conditions in a framework that incorporates brane torsion terms. It is shown, in a rough estimate, that the resulting effects are generally suppressed by the internal space volume.

Pair and Impar, Even and Odd Form Fields and Electromagnetism

In this paper after reviewing the Schouten and de Rham definition of impair and pair differential form fields (not to be confused with differential form fields of even and odd grades) we prove that in a relativistic spacetime it is possible (despite claims in contrary) to coherently formulate electromagnetism (and we believe any other physical theory) using only pair form fields or, if one wishes, using pair and impair form fields together, in an appropriate way. Those two distinct descriptions involve only a mathematical choice and do not seem to lead to any observable physical consequence if due care is taken. Moreover, we show in details that a formulation of electromagnetic theory in the Clifford bundle formalism of differential forms where the two Maxwell equations of the so called free metric approach becomes a single equation is compatible with both formulations of electromagnetism just mentioned above. Moreover we derive directly from Maxwell equation the density of force (coupling of the electromagnetic field with the charge current) that is a postulate in the free metric approach to electromagnetism. We recall also a formulation of the engineering version of Maxwell equations using electric and magnetic fields as objects of the same nature, i.e., without using polar and axial vectors.

Rigorous Formulation of Duality in Gravitational Theories

In this paper we evince a rigorous formulation of duality in gravitational theories where an Einstein like equation is valid, by providing the conditions under which the Hodge duals (with respect to the metric tensor g) of T^a and R_b^a may be considered as the torsion and curvature 2-forms associated with a connection D', part of a Riemann-Cartan structure (M,g',D'), in the cases g = g' and g does not equal g', once T^a and R_b^a are the torsion and curvature 2-forms associated with a connection D part of a Riemann-Cartan structure (M,g,D). A new form for the Einstein equation involving the dual of the Riemann tensor of D is also provided, and the result is compared with others appearing in the literature.

ELKO, flagpole and flag-dipole spinor fields, and the instanton Hopf fibration

In a previous paper we explicitly constructed a mapping that leads Dirac spinor fields to the dual-helicity eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator (ELKO spinor fields). ELKO spinor fields are prime candidates for describing dark matter, and belong to a wider class of spinor fields, the so-called flagpole spinor fields, corresponding to the class-(5), according to Lounesto spinor field classification, based on the relations and values taken by their associated bilinear covariants. Such a mapping between Dirac and ELKO spinor fields was obtained in an attempt to extend the Standard Model in order to encompass dark matter. Now we prove that such a mapping, analogous to the instanton Hopf fibration map $S^3... S^7\to S^4$, prevents ELKO to describe the instanton, giving a suitable physical interpretation to ELKO. We review ELKO spinor fields as type-(5) spinor fields under the Lounesto spinor field classification, explicitly computing the associated bilinear covariants. This paper is also devoted to investigate some formal aspects of the flag-dipole spinor fields, which correspond to the class-(4) under the Lounesto spinor field classification. In addition, we prove that type-(4) spinor fields (corresponding to flag-dipoles) and ELKO spinor fields (corresponding to flagpoles) can also be entirely described in terms of the Majorana and Weyl spinor fields. After all, by choosing a projection endomorphism of the spacetime algebra Cl(1,3) it is shown how to obtain ELKO, flagpole, Majorana and Weyl spinor fields, respectively corresponding to type-(5) and -(6) spinor fields, uniquely from limiting cases of a type-(4) (flag-dipole) spinor field, in a similar result obtained by Lounesto.

Obtaining the equation of motion for a fermionic particle in a generalized Lorentz-violating system framework

Using a generalized procedure for obtaining the dispersion relation and the equation of motion for a propagating fermionic particle, we examine previous claims for a preferred axis at $n_μ$($\equiv(1,0,0,1)$), $n^{2}=0$ embedded in the framework of very special relativity (VSR). We show that, in a relatively high energy scale, the corresponding equation of motion is reduced to a conserving lepton number chiral equation previously predicted in the literature. Otherwise, in a relatively low energy scale, the equation is reduced to the usual Dirac equation for a free propagating fermionic particle. It is accomplished by the suggestive analysis of some special cases where a nonlinear modification of the action of the Lorentz group is generated by the addition of a modified conformal transformation which, meanwhile, preserves the structure of the ordinary Lorentz algebra in a very peculiar way. Some feasible experiments, for which Lorentz violating effects here pointed out may be detectable, are suggested.

Clifford algebra-parametrized octonions and generalizations

Introducing products between multivectors of Cl(0,7) and octonions, resulting in an octonion, and leading to the non-associative standard octonionic product in a particular case, we generalize the octonionic X-product, associated with the transformation rules for bosonic and fermionic fields on the tangent bundle over the 7-sphere, and the XY-product. We also present the formalism necessary to construct Clifford algebra-parametrized octonions. Finally we introduce a method to construct generalized octonionic algebras, where their octonionic units are parametrized by arbitrary Clifford multivectors. The products between Clifford multivectors and octonions, leading to an octonion, are shown to share graded-associative, supersymmetric properties. We also investigate the generalization of Moufang identities, for each one of the products introduced. The X-product equals twice the parallelizing torsion, given by the torsion tensor, and is used to investigate the S7 Kac-Moody algebra. The X-product has also been used to obtain triality maps and G2 actions, and it leads naturally to remarkable geometric and topological properties, for instance the Hopf fibrations and twistor formalism in ten dimensions. The paramount importance of octonions in the search for unification is based, for instance, in the fact that by extending the division-algebra-valued superalgebras to octonions, in D=11 an octonionic generalized Poincare superalgebra can be constructed, the so-called octonionic M-algebra that describes the octonionic M-theory where the octonionic super-2-brane and the octonionic super-5-brane sectors are shown to be equivalent. Also, there are other vast generalizations and applications of the octonionic formalism such as the classification of quaternionic and octonionic spinors and the pseudo-octonionic formalism.

Extended Grassmann and Clifford algebras

This paper is intended to investigate Grassmann and Clifford algebras over Peano spaces, introducing their respective associated extended algebras, and to explore these concepts also from the counterspace viewpoint. The exterior (regressive) algebra is shown to share the exterior (progressive) algebra in the direct sum of chiral and achiral subspaces. The duality between scalars and volume elements, respectively under the progressive and the regressive products is shown to have chirality, in the case when the dimension n of the Peano space is even. In other words, the counterspace volume element is shown to be a scalar or a pseudoscalar, depending on the dimension of the vector space to be respectively odd or even. The de Rham cochain associated with the differential operator is constituted by a sequence of exterior algebra homogeneous subspaces subsequently chiral and achiral. Thus we prove that the exterior algebra over the space and the exterior algebra constructed on the counterspace are only pseudoduals each other, when we introduce chirality. The extended Clifford algebra is introduced in the light of the periodicity theorem of Clifford algebras context, wherein the Clifford and extended Clifford algebras Cl(p,q) can be embedded in Cl(p+1,q+1), which is shown to be exactly the extended Clifford algebra. Clifford algebras are constructed over the counterspace, and the duality between progressive and regressive products is presented using the dual Hodge star operator. The differential and codifferential operators are also defined for the extended exterior algebras from the regressive product viewpoint, and it is shown they uniquely tumble right out progressive and regressive exterior products of 1-forms.

Extra dimensions in CERN LHC via mini-black holes: effective Kerr-Newman brane-world effects

We solve Einstein equations on the brane to derive the exact form of the braneworld-corrected perturbations in Kerr-Newman singularities, using Randall-Sundrum and Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali (ADD) models. It is a consequence of such models the possibility that Kerr-Newman mini-black holes can be produced in LHC. We use this approach to derive a normalized correction for the Schwarzschild Myers-Perry radius of a static $(4+n)$-dimensional mini-black hole, using more realistic approaches arising from Kerr-Newman mini-black hole analysis. Besides, we prove that there are four Kerr-Newman black hole horizons in braneworld scenario we use, although only the outer horizon is relevant in the physical measurable processes. Parton cross sections in LHC and Hawking temperature are also investigated as functions of Planck mass (in the LHC range 1-10 TeV), mini-black hole mass and the number of large extra dimensions in braneworld large extra-dimensional scenarios. In this case a more realistic brane effect-corrected formalism can achieve more precisely the effective extra-dimensional Planck mass and the number of large extra dimensions -- in Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali model -- or the size of the warped extra dimension -- in Randall-Sundrum formalism.

Variation in the luminosity of Kerr quasars due to extra dimension in brane Randall-Sundrum model

We propose an alternative theoretical approach showing how the existence of an extra dimension in Randall-Sundrum model can estimate the correction in the horizon of Schwarzschild and Kerr black holes, and consequently its measurability in terms of the variation of quasar luminosity, which can be caused by a imprint of an extra dimension endowing the geometry of a brane-world scenario in an AdS5 bulk. The rotation effects cause a more prominent correction in Kerr horizon radius than in Schwarzschild (static black hole) radius, via brane-world effects, and the consequent bigger variation in the luminosity in Kerr black holes quasars. This paper is intended to investigate the variation of luminosity due to accretion of gas in Schwarzschild and Kerr black holes (BHs) in the center of quasars, besides also investigating the variation of luminosity in supermassive BHs by brane-world effects, using Randall-Sundrum model.

This paper is the third of a series of three, and it is the continuation of math-ph/0412074 and math-ph/0412075. After reviewing the conformal spacetime structure, conformal maps are described in Minkowski spacetime as the twisted adjoint representation of the group Spin_+(2,4), acting on paravectors. Twistors are then presented via the paravector model of Clifford algebras and related to conformal maps in the Clifford algebra over the lorentzian R{4,1}$ spacetime. We construct twistors in Minkowski spacetime as algebraic spinors associated with the Dirac-Clifford algebra Cl(1,3)(C) using one lower spacetime dimension than standard Clifford algebra formulations, since for this purpose the Clifford algebra over R{4,1} is also used to describe conformal maps, instead of R{2,4}. Although some papers have already described twistors using the algebra Cl(1,3)(C), isomorphic to Cl(4,1), the present formulation sheds some new light on the use of the paravector model and generalizations.
