Generalized Fishburn numbers and torus knots

Andrews and Sellers recently initiated the study of arithmetic properties of Fishburn numbers. In this paper, we prove prime power congruences for generalized Fishburn numbers. These numbers are the coefficients in the 1−q1-q expansion of the Kontsevich-Zagier series Ft(q)\mathscr{F}_{t}(q) for the torus knots T(3,2t)T(3,2^t), t≥2t \geq 2. The proof uses a strong divisibility result of Ahlgren, Kim and Lovejoy and a new "strange identity" for Ft(q)\mathscr{F}_{t}(q).

The colored Jones polynomial and Kontsevich-Zagier series for double twist knots, II

Let K(m,p)K_{(m,p)} denote the family of double twist knots where 2m−12m-1 and 2p2p are non-zero integers denoting the number of half-twists in each region. Using a result of Takata, we prove a formula for the colored Jones polynomial of K(−m,−p)K_{(-m,-p)} and K(−m,p)K_{(-m,p)}. The latter case leads to new families of qq-hypergeometric series generalizing the Kontsevich-Zagier series. We also use Bailey pairs and formulas of Walsh to find cyclotomic-like expansions for the colored Jones polynomials of K(m,p)K_{(m,p)} and K(m,−p)K_{(m,-p)}.

Constrained ternary integers

An integer nn is said to be ternary if it is composed of three distinct odd primes. In this paper, we asymptotically count the number of ternary integers n≤xn \leq x with the constituent primes satisfying various constraints. We apply our results to the study of the simplest class of (inverse) cyclotomic polynomials that can have coefficients that are greater than 1 in absolute value, namely to the nthn^{th} (inverse) cyclotomic polynomials with ternary nn. We show, for example, that the corrected Sister Beiter conjecture is true for a fraction ≥0.925\ge 0.925 of ternary integers.

Interpolated sequences and critical LL-values of modular forms

Recently, Zagier expressed an interpolated version of the Apéry numbers for ζ(3)ζ(3) in terms of a critical LL-value of a modular form of weight 4. We extend this evaluation in two directions. We first prove that interpolations of Zagier's six sporadic sequences are essentially critical LL-values of modular forms of weight 3. We then establish an infinite family of evaluations between interpolations of leading coefficients of Brown's cellular integrals and critical LL-values of modular forms of odd weight.

A modular supercongruence for 6F5_6F_5: an Apéry-like story

We prove a supercongruence modulo p3p^3 between the ppth Fourier coefficient of a weight 6 modular form and a truncated 6F5{}_6F_5-hypergeometric series. Novel ingredients in the proof are the comparison of two rational approximations to ζ(3)ζ(3) to produce non-trivial harmonic sum identities and the reduction of the resulting congruences between harmonic sums via a congruence between the Apéry numbers and another Apéry-like sequence.

Mock theta double sums

We prove a general result on Bailey pairs and show that two Bailey pairs of Bringmann and Kane are special cases. We also show how to use a change of base formula to pass from the pairs of Bringmann and Kane to pairs used by Andrews in his study of Ramanujan's seventh order mock theta functions. We derive several more Bailey pairs of a similar type and use these to construct a number of new q-hypergeometric double sums which are mock theta functions. Finally, we prove identities between some of these mock theta double sums and classical mock theta functions.

Principal forms X^2 + nY^2 representing many integers

In 1966, Shanks and Schmid investigated the asymptotic behavior of the number of positive integers less than or equal to x which are represented by the quadratic form X^2+nY^2. Based on some numerical computations, they observed that the constant occurring in the main term appears to be the largest for n=2. In this paper, we prove that in fact this constant is unbounded as n runs through positive integers with a fixed number of prime divisors.

M_2-rank differences for overpartitions

This is the third and final installment in our series of papers applying the method of Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer to deduce formulas for rank differences. The study of rank differences was initiated by Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer in their proof of Dyson's conjectures concerning Ramanujan's congruences for the partition function. Since then, other types of rank differences for statistics associated to partitions have been investigated. In this paper, we prove explicit formulas for M_2-rank differences for overpartitions. Additionally, we express a third order mock theta function in terms of rank differences.

Automorphic properties of generating functions for generalized rank moments and Durfee symbols

We define two-parameter generalizations of two combinatorial constructions of Andrews: the kth symmetrized rank moment and the k-marked Durfee symbol. We prove that three specializations of the associated generating functions are so-called quasimock theta functions, while a fourth specialization gives quasimodular forms. We then define a two-parameter generalization of Andrews' smallest parts function and note that this leads to quasimock theta functions as well. The automorphic properties are deduced using q-series identities relating the relevant generating functions to known mock theta functions.

Rank and crank moments for overpartitions

We study two types of crank moments and two types of rank moments for overpartitions. We show that the crank moments and their derivatives, along with certain linear combinations of the rank moments and their derivatives, can be written in terms of quasimodular forms. We then use this fact to prove exact relations involving the moments as well as congruence properties modulo 3, 5, and 7 for some combinatorial functions which may be expressed in terms of the second moments. Finally, we establish a congruence modulo 3 involving one such combinatorial function and the Hurwitz class number H(n).

Densities of 4-ranks of K2(O)K_2(\mathcal{O})

Conner and Hurrelbrink established a method of determining the structure of the 2-Sylow subgroup of the tame kernel K2(O)K_2(\mathcal{O}) for certain quadratic number fields. Specifically, the 4-rank for these fields was characterized in terms of positive definite binary quadratic forms. Numerical calculations led to questions concerning possible density results of the 4-rank of tame kernels. In this paper, we succeed in giving affirmative answers to these questions.

Tame kernels and further 4-rank densites

There has been recent progress on computing the 4-rank of the tame kernel K2(OF)K_2(\mathcal{O}_F) for FF a quadratic number field. For certain quadratic number fields, this progress has led to "density results'' concerning the 4-rank of tame kernels. These results were first mentioned in \cite{CH} and proven in \cite{RO}. In this paper, we consider some additional quadratic number fields and obtain further density results of 4-ranks of tame kernels. Additionally, we give tables which might indicate densities in some generality.
