Flux large deviations of weakly interacting jump processes via well-posedness of an associated Hamilton-Jacobi equation

We establish uniqueness for a class of first-order Hamilton-Jacobi equations with Hamiltonians that arise from the large deviations of the empirical measure and empirical flux pair of weakly interacting Markov jump processes. As a corollary we obtain a large deviation principle for the trajectory of the empirical measure and empirical flux pair of such processes. As a second corollary we get same result in the setting where the jump-rates are time-periodic, with period-length that decreases to 0.

Classical large deviations theorems on complete Riemannian manifolds

We generalize classical large deviations theorems to the setting of complete Riemannian manifolds. We prove the analogue of Mogulskii's theorem for geodesic random walks via a general approach using visocity solutions for Hamilton-Jacobi equations. As a corollary, we also obtain the analogue of Cramér's theorem. The approach also provides a new proof of Schilder's theorem. Additionally, we provide a proof of Schilder's theorem by using an embedding into Euclidean space, together with Freidlin-Wentzell theory.

Path-space moderate deviations for a class of Curie-Weiss models with dissipation

We modify the Glauber dynamics of the Curie-Weiss model with dissipation in Dai Pra, Fischer, Regoli[2013] by considering arbitrary transition rates and we analyze the phase-portrait as well as the dynamics of moderate fluctuations for macroscopic observables. We obtain path-space moderate deviation principles via a general analytic approach based on the convergence of non-linear generators and uniqueness of viscosity solutions for associated Hamilton-Jacobi equations. The moderate asymptotics depend crucially on the phase we are considering and, moreover, their behavior may be influenced by the choice of the rates.

Fluctuation symmetry leads to GENERIC equations with non-quadratic dissipation

We develop a formalism to discuss the properties of GENERIC systems in terms of corresponding Hamiltonians that appear in the characterization of large-deviation limits. We demonstrate how the GENERIC structure naturally arises from a certain symmetry in the Hamiltonian, which extends earlier work that has connected the large-deviation behaviour of reversible stochastic processes to the gradient-flow structure of their deterministic limit. Natural examples of application include particle systems with inertia.

Gibbs-non-Gibbs transition in the fuzzy Potts models with a Kac-type interaction: Closing the Ising gap

We complete the investigation of the Gibbs properties of the fuzzy Potts model on the d-dimensional torus with Kac interaction which was started by Jahnel and one of the authors. As our main result of the present paper, we extend the previous sharpness result of mean-field bounds to cover all possible cases of fuzzy transformations, allowing also for the occurrence of Ising classes. The closing of this previously left open Ising-gap involves an analytical argument showing uniqueness of minimizing profiles for certain non-homogeneous conditional variational problems.

A large deviation perspective on exponential decay of entropy and lower bounds on the Ricci-curvature

We offer a new point of view on the (Modified) Log-Sobolev inequality and lower bounds on the Ricci-curvature in the setting where the dynamics are obtained as the limit of Markov processes. In this setting, the large deviation rate function of the stationary measures of the Markov processes, plays the role of entropy. We define an entropy-information inequality (EII) that generalizes the (MLSI) and is equivalent to exponential decay of the rate function along the flow, and define an entropy-convexity inequality (ECI) that serves as an analogue of a lower bound on the Ricci-curvature in this setting.
