Distance covariance for random fields

We study an independence test based on distance correlation for random fields $(X,Y)$. We consider the situations when $(X,Y)$ is observed on a lattice with equidistant grid sizes and when $(X,Y)$ is observed at random locations. We provide asymptotic theory for the sample distance correlation in both situations and show bootstrap consistency. The latter fact allows one to build a test for independence of $X$ and $Y$ based on the considered discretizations of these fields. We illustrate the performance of the bootstrap test in a simulation study involving fractional Brownian and infinite variance stable fields. The independence test is applied to Japanese meteorological data, which are observed over the entire area of Japan.

Certain Family of Some Beta Distributions Arising from Distribution of Randomly Weighted Average

We give the exact distribution of the average of n independent beta random variables weighted by the selected cuts of (0, 1) by the order statistics of a random sample of size n-1 from the uniform distribution U(0,1), for each n. A new integral transformation that is similar to generalized Stieltjes transform is given with various properties. The result of Soltani and Roozegar [On distribution of randomly ordered uniform incremental weighted averages: Divided difference approach. Statist Probab Lett. 2012, 82(5):1012-1020] with this new transform and also integral representation of the Gauss-hypergeometric function in some parts are employed to achieve the exact distribution. Several examples of the new family are investigated.

On Bivariate Exponentiated Extended Weibull Family of Distributions

In this paper, we introduce a new class of bivariate distributions called the bivariate exponentiated extended Weibull distributions. The model introduced here is of Marshall-Olkin type. This new class of bivariate distributions contains several bivariate lifetime models. Some mathematical properties of the new class of distributions are studied. We provide the joint and conditional density functions, the joint cumulative distribution function and the joint survival function. Special bivariate distributions are investigated in some detail. The maximum likelihood estimators are obtained using the EM algorithm. We illustrate the usefulness of the new class by means of application to two real data sets.

On Bivariate Generalized Exponential-Power Series Class of Distributions

In this paper, we introduce a new class of bivariate distributions by compounding the bivariate generalized exponential and power-series distributions. This new class contains some new sub-models such as the bivariate generalized exponential distribution, the bivariate generalized exponential-poisson, -logarithmic, -binomial and -negative binomial distributions. We derive different properties of the new class of distributions. The EM algorithm is used to determine the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters. We illustrate the usefulness of the new distributions by means of an application to a real data set.

On Bivariate Generalized Linear Failure Rate-Power Series Class of Distributions

Recently it has been observed that the bivariate generalized linear failure rate distribution can be used quite effectively to analyze lifetime data in two dimensions. This paper introduces a more general class of bivariate distributions. We refer to this new class of distributions as bivariate generalized linear failure rate power series model. This new class of bivariate distributions contains several lifetime models such as: generalized linear failure rate-power series, bivariate generalized linear failure rate and bivariate generalized linear failure rate geometric distributions as special cases among others. The construction and characteristics of the proposed bivariate distribution are presented along with estimation procedures for the model parameters based on maximum likelihood. The marginal and conditional laws are also studied. We present an application to the real data set where our model provides a better fit than other models.

The McDonald Gompertz Distribution: Properties and Applications

This paper introduces a five-parameter lifetime model with increasing, decreasing, upside -down bathtub and bathtub shaped failure rate called as the McDonald Gompertz (McG) distribution. This new distribution extend the Gompertz, generalized Gompertz, generalized exponential, beta Gompertz and Kumaraswamy Gompertz distributions, among several other models. We obtain several properties of the McG distribution including moments, entropies, quantile and generating functions. We provide the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The parameter estimation is based on the usual maximum likelihood approach. We also provide the observed information matrix and discuss inferences issues. In the end, the flexibility and usefulness of the new distribution is illustrated by means of application to two real data sets.
