An electromagnetic extension of the Schwarzschild interior solution and the corresponding Buchdahl limit

We wish to construct a model for charged star as a generalization of the uniform density Schwarzschild interior solution. We employ the Vaidya and Tikekar ansatz [{\it Astrophys. Astron.} {\bf 3} (1982) 325] for one of the metric potentials and electric field is chosen in such a way that when it is switched off the metric reduces to the Schwarzschild. This relates charge distribution to the Vaidya-Tikekar parameter, $k$, indicating deviation form sphericity of three dimensional space when embedded into four dimensional Euclidean space. The model is examined against all the physical conditions required for a relativistic charged fluid sphere as an interior to a charged star. We also obtain and discuss charged analogue of the Buchdahl compactness bound.

Anisotropic generalization of Vaidya-Tikekar superdense star

We study superdense relativistic stars with anisotropic matter distributions with spheroidal spatial hypersurfaces. We propose a methodology to make an anisotropic generalization of the Vaidya-Tikekar superdense star model. The anisotropic Einstein field equations can be solved in terms of hypergeometric functions for our choice of gravitational potential and anisotropy. Particular parameter choices allow us to generate models of anisotropic stars in terms of elementary functions. Also, isotropic stars can be generated in the limit of vanishing anisotropy. In particular, we obtain the well known superdense models of Tikekar which are isotropic and have specific spheroidal geometries. The impact of anisotropy on the gross physical behaviour of a compact star is studied.

Gravitational collapse of anisotropic stars

We study the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric anisotropic relativistic star within Einstein theory of gravity making use of one of our recently developed collapsing stellar models [{\it Astrophys. Space Sci.} {\bf361} 99 (2016)]. The final state of continual gravitational collapse of a massive star under regular initial conditions is analyzed in terms of the formation of black holes. To study the evolution of an anisotropic star undergoing gravitational collapse, it is assumed that the dissipation process happens in the form of radial heat-flux. The interior space-time is described by static metric matched at the boundary with Vaidya metric that describes the exterior to the radiating star. The initial static configuration is described by the relativistic solution obtained by Paul and Deb [{\it Astrophys. Space Sci.} {\bf354} 421 (2014)]. The impact of anisotropy on the dynamical gravitational collapse of a massive star is studied. The relativistic causal heat transport equation of the Maxwell-Cattaneo equation is utilized to show the dependence of anisotropy on the temperature profile of the collapsing system.

Revisiting Vaidya-Tikekar stellar model in the linear regime

We obtain a new class of solutions by revisiting the Vaidya-Tikekar stellar model in the linear regime. Making use of the Vaidya and Tikekar metric ansatz [J. Astrophys. Astron. {\bf3} (1982) 325] describing the spacetime of static spherically symmetric relativistic star composed of an anisotropic matter distribution admitting a linear EOS, we solve the Einstein field equations and subsequently analyze physical viability of the solution. We probe the impact of the curvature parameter $K$ of the Vaidya-Tikekar model, which characterizes a departure from homogeneous spherical distribution, on the mass-radius relationship of the star. In the context of density-dependent MIT Bag models, we show a correlation between the curvature parameter, the bag constant and total mass and radius of some of the well-known pulsars viz., 4U 1820-30, RX J1856-37, SAXJ 1808.4 and Her X-1. We explore the possibility of fine-tuning these parameters based on current observational data.

Modeling Anisotropic Stars Obeying Chaplygin Equation of State

In this work we provide a framework for modeling compact stars in which the interior matter distribution obeys a generalised Chaplygin equation of state. The interior geometry of the stellar object is described by a spherically symmetric line element which is simultaneously comoving and isotropic with the exterior spacetime being vacuum. We are able to integrate the Einstein field equations and present closed form solutions which adequately describe compact strange star candidates like Her X-1, RX J 1856-37, PSRJ 1614-2230 and SAX J1808.4-3658.

Gravitational collapse of a circularly symmetric star

We investigate the collapse of a circularly symmetric star with outgoing radiation in ($2+1$)-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime. The exterior spacetime of the collapsing star is assumed to be described by the non-static generalization of the Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli [{\em Phys. Rev. Lett.} {\bf 69} (1992) 1849 ] metric. Making use of the junction conditions joining smoothly the interior and the exterior spacetimes across the boundary, we analyze the impacts of various factors on the evolution of the star which begins its collapse from an initial static configuration. In particular, depending on initial conditions, two possible outcomes of the collapse process are shown: (i) formation of a BTZ black hole, and (ii) evaporation of all mass-energy even before the singularity is reached.

Noncommutative geometry inspired 3-dimensional charged black hole solution in an anti-de Sitter background space-time

We report a 3D charged black hole solution in an anti desetter space inspired by noncommutative geometry. In this construction, the black hole exhibits two horizon which turn into a single horizon in the extreme case.We investigate the impacts of the electromagnetic field on the location of the event horizon, mass and thermodynamic properties such as Hawking temperature, entropy and heat capacity of the black hole. The geodesics of the charged black hole are also analyzed.

Exact solutions in (2 + 1)-dimensional anti-de Sitter space-time admitting a linear or non-linear equation of state

Gravitational analyzes in lower dimensions has become a field of active research interest ever since Banados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) (Phys. Rev. Lett. 69, 1849, 1992) proved the existence of a black hole solution in (2 + 1) dimensions. The BTZ metric has inspired many investigators to develop and analyze circularly symmetric stellar models which can be matched to the exterior BTZ metric. We have obtained two new classes of solutions for a (2 + 1)-dimensional anisotropic star in anti-de Sitter background space-time which have been obtained by assuming that the equation of state (EOS) describing the material composition of the star could either be linear or non-linear in nature. By matching the interior solution to the BTZ exterior metric with zero spin, we have demonstrated that the solutions provided here are regular and well-behaved at the stellar interior.

Finch-Skea star in (2+1) dimensions

The Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli\cite{BTZ} solution corresponding to the exterior space-time of a black hole in $(2+1)$ dimensions has been found to be very useful to understand various aspects relating to the gravitational field of a black hole. We present here a class of interior solutions corresponding to the BTZ exterior by making use of a model presented by Finch and Skea\cite{Finch} which was earlier found to be relevant for the description realistic stars in $(3+1)$ dimensions. We show physical viability of the model in lower dimensions as well.

Relativistic stellar model admitting a quadratic equation of state

A class of solutions describing the interior of a static spherically symmetric compact anisotropic star is reported. The analytic solution has been obtained by utilizing the Finch and Skea ({\it Class. Quant. Grav.} {\bf 6} (1989) 467) ansatz for the metric potential $g_{rr}$ which has a clear geometric interpretation for the associated background space-time. Based on physical grounds appropriate bounds on the model parameters have been obtained and it has been shown that the model admits an equation of state (EOS) which is quadratic in nature.

Strange stars in Krori-Barua space-time

The singularity space-time metric obtained by Krori and Barua\cite{Krori1975} satisfies the physical requirements of a realistic star. Consequently, we explore the possibility of applying the Krori and Barua model to describe ultra-compact objects like strange stars. For it to become a viable model for strange stars, bounds on the model parameters have been obtained. Consequences of a mathematical description to model strange stars have been analyzed.

A class of interior solutions corresponding to a $(2+1)$ dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime

Lower dimensional gravity has the potential of providing non-trivial and valuable insight into some of the conceptual issues arising in four dimensional relativistic gravitational analysis. The asymptotically anti-de Sitter (2+1) dimensional spacetime described by Ba$\tilde{n}$ados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) which admits a black hole solution, has become a source of fascination for theoretical physicists in recent years. By suitably choosing the form of the mass function $m(r)$, we derive a new class of solutions for the interior of an isotropic star corresponding to the exterior (2+1) asymptotically anti-de Sitter BTZ spacetime. The solution obtained satisfies all the regularity conditions and its simple analytical form helps us to study the physical parameters of the configuration in a simple manner.
