Generalizations of Jacobsthal sums and hypergeometric series over finite fields

For non-negative integers $l_{1}, l_{2},\ldots, l_{n}$, we define character sums $φ_{(l_{1}, l_{2},\ldots, l_{n})}$ and $ψ_{(l_{1}, l_{2},\ldots, l_{n})}$ over a finite field which are generalizations of Jacobsthal and modified Jacobsthal sums, respectively. We express these character sums in terms of Greene's finite field hypergeometric series. We then express the number of points on the hyperelliptic curves $y^2=(x^m+a)(x^m+b)(x^m+c)$ and $y^2=x(x^m+a)(x^m+b)(x^m+c)$ over a finite field in terms of the character sums $φ_{(l_{1}, l_{2}, l_{3})}$ and $ψ_{(l_{1}, l_{2}, l_{3})}$, and finally obtain expressions in terms of the finite field hypergeometric series.

Magnetic and transport anomalies in R2RhSi3 (R= Gd, Tb, and Dy), resembling those of an exotic magnetic skyrmion Gd2PdSi3

We have carried out magnetization, heat capacity, electrical and magnetoresistance measurements (2-300 K) for the polycrystalline form of intermetallic compounds, R2RhSi3 (R= Gd, Tb, and Dy), forming in a AlB2 derived hexagonal structure with a triangular R network. This work was primarily motivated by a revival of interest on Gd2PdSi3 after about two decades in the field of Toplogical Hall Effect due to magnetic skyrmions. We report here that these compounds are characterized by double antiferromagnetic transitions (T_N= 13.5 and 12 K for Gd, 13.5 and 6.5 K for Tb; 6.5 and 2.5 for Dy), but antiferromagnerism seems to be complex. The most notable observations common to all these compounds are: (i) There are many features in the data mimicking those seen for Gd2PdSi3, including the two field-induced changes in isothermal magnetization as though there are two metamagnetic transitions well below T_N. In view of such a resemblance of the properties, we speculate that these Rh-based materials offer a good playground to study toplogical Hall effect in a centrosymmetric structure, with its origin lying in triangular lattice of magnetic R ions; (ii) There is an increasing contribution of electronic scattering with decreasing temperature towards T_N in all cases, similar to Gd2PdSi3, thereby serving as examples for a theoretical prediction for a classical spin-liquid phase in metallic systems due to geometrical frustration.

Correlation of exchange bias with magneto-structural effects across the compensation temperature of Co(Cr$_{1-x}$Fe$_{x}$)$_2$O$_4$ (x = 0.05 and 0.075)

A small amount of Fe (5% and 7.5%) substitution in the Cr-site of the multiferroic compound CoCr2O4 leads to a magnetization reversal. In these compounds, we report a sign change in the exchange bias across the compensation temperature, accompanied by a non-monotonic change in the local moments across the compensation temperature. Such non-monotonic change in the magnetic moments is triggered by a similar change in the lattice structure. We relate here the sign change of exchange bias with that of the crystalline energy of the lattice and the Zeeman energy term arising from the anti-site disorder.

Directed graphs and its Boundary Vertices

Suppose that $D=(V,E)$ is a strongly connected digraph. Let $u,v\in V(D)$. The maximum distance $md (u,v)$ is defined as $md(u,v)$=max\{$\overrightarrow{d}(u,v), \overrightarrow{d}(v,u)$\} where $\overrightarrow{d}(u,v)$ denote the length of a shortest directed $u-v$ path in $D$. This is a metric. The boundary, contour, eccentric and peripheral sets of a strong digraph $D$ are defined with respect to this metric. The main aim of this paper is to identify the above said metrically defined sets of a large strong digraph $D$ in terms of its prime factor decomposition with respect to cartesian product.
