Moment estimates for solutions of SPDEs with Lévy colored noise

In this article, we continue the investigations initiated by the first author in Balan (2015) related to the study of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with Lévy colored noise on $\mathbb{R}_{+} \times \mathbb{R}^d$. This noise is constructed from a Lévy white noise (which is in turn built from a Poisson random measure with intensity $dtdx ν(dz)$), using the convolution with a suitable spatial kernel $κ$. We assume that the Lévy measure $ν$ has finite variance. Therefore, the stochastic integral with respect to this noise is constructed similarly to the integral with respect to the spatially-homogeneous Gaussian case considered in Dalang (1999). Using Rosenthal's inequality, we provide an upper bound for the $p$-th moment of the stochastic integral with respect to the Lévy colored noise, which allows us to identify sufficient conditions for the solution of an SPDE driven by this noise to have higher order moments. We first analyze this question for the linear SPDE, considering as examples the stochastic heat and wave equations in any dimension $d$, for three examples of kernels $κ$: the heat kernel, the Riesz kernel, and the Bessel kernel. Then, we present a general theory for a non-linear SPDE with Lipschitz coefficients, and perform a detailed analysis in the case of the heat equation (in dimension $d\geq 1$), and wave equation (in dimension $d\leq 3$), for the same kernels $κ$. We show that the solution of each of these equations has a finite upper Lyapounov exponent of order $p\geq 2$, and in some cases, is weakly intermittent (in the sense of Foondun and Khoshnevisan, 2013). In the case of the parabolic/hyperbolic Anderson model with Lévy colored noise, we provide the Poisson chaos expansion of the solution and the explicit form of the second-order Lyapounov exponent.

Central limit theorems for heat equation with time-independent noise: the regular and rough cases

In this article, we investigate the asymptotic behaviour of the spatial integral of the solution to the parabolic Anderson model with time independent noise in dimension $d\geq 1$, as the domain of the integral becomes large. We consider 3 cases: (a) the case when the noise has an integrable covariance function; (b) the case when the covariance of the noise is given by the Riesz kernel; (c) the case of the rough noise, i.e. fractional noise with index $H \in (\frac{1}{4},\frac{1}{2})$ in dimension $d=1$. In each case, we identify the order of magnitude of the variance of the spatial integral, we prove a quantitative central limit theorem for the normalized spatial integral by estimating its total variation distance to a standard normal distribution, and we give the corresponding functional limit result.

Parabolic Anderson model with rough noise in space and rough initial conditions

In this note, we consider the parabolic Anderson model on $\mathbb{R}_{+} \times \mathbb{R}$, driven by a Gaussian noise which is fractional in time with index $H_0>1/2$ and fractional in space with index $0<H<1/2$ such that $H_0+H>3/4$. Under a general condition on the initial data, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the mild solution and obtain its exponential upper bounds in time for all $p$-th moments with $p\ge 2$.

Spatial integral of the solution to hyperbolic Anderson model with time-independent noise

In this article, we study the asymptotic behavior of the spatial integral of the solution to the hyperbolic Anderson model in dimension $d\leq 2$, as the domain of the integral gets large (for fixed time $t$). This equation is driven by a spatially homogeneous Gaussian noise, whose covariance function is either integrable, or is given by the Riesz kernel. The novelty is that the noise does not depend on time, which means that Itô's martingale theory for stochastic integration cannot be used. Using a combination of Malliavin calculus with Stein's method, we show that with proper normalization and centering, the spatial integral of the solution converges to a standard normal distribution, by estimating the speed of this convergence in the total variation distance. We also prove the corresponding functional limit theorem for the spatial integral process.

The hyperbolic Anderson model: Moment estimates of the Malliavin derivatives and applications

In this article, we study the hyperbolic Anderson model driven by a space-time \emph{colored} Gaussian homogeneous noise with spatial dimension $d=1,2$. Under mild assumptions, we provide $L^p$-estimates of the iterated Malliavin derivative of the solution in terms of the fundamental solution of the wave solution. To achieve this goal, we rely heavily on the \emph{Wiener chaos expansion} of the solution. Our first application are \emph{quantitative central limit theorems} for spatial averages of the solution to the hyperbolic Anderson model, where the rates of convergence are described by the total variation distance. These quantitative results have been elusive so far due to the temporal correlation of the noise blocking us from using the Itô calculus. A \emph{novel} ingredient to overcome this difficulty is the \emph{second-order Gaussian Poincaré inequality} coupled with the application of the aforementioned $L^p$-estimates of the first two Malliavin derivatives. Besides, we provide the corresponding functional central limit theorems. As a second application, we establish the absolute continuity of the law for the hyperbolic Anderson model. The $L^p$-estimates of Malliavin derivatives are crucial ingredients to verify a local version of Bouleau-Hirsch criterion for absolute continuity. Our approach substantially simplifies the arguments for the one-dimensional case, which has been studied in the recent work by Balan, Quer-Sardanyons and Song (2019).

Intermittency for the Hyperbolic Anderson Model with rough noise in space

In this article, we consider the stochastic wave equation on the real line driven by a linear multiplicative Gaussian noise, which is white in time and whose spatial correlation corresponds to that of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (\frac14,\frac12)$. Initial data are assumed to be constant. First, we prove that this equation has a unique solution (in the Skorohod sense) and obtain an exponential upper bound for the $p$-th moment of the solution, for any $p\geq 2$. Condition $H>\frac14$ turns out to be necessary for the existence of solution. Secondly, we show that this solution coincides with the one obtained by the authors in a recent publication, in which the solution is interpreted in the Itô sense. Finally, we prove that the solution of the equation in the Skorohod sense is weakly intermittent.

Intermittency for the wave and heat equations with fractional noise in time

In this article, we consider the stochastic wave and heat equations driven by a Gaussian noise which is spatially homogeneous and behaves in time like a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H>1/2$. The solutions of these equations are interpreted in the Skorohod sense. Using Malliavin calculus techniques, we obtain an upper bound for the moments of order $p\geq2$ of the solution. In the case of the wave equation, we derive a Feynman-Kac-type formula for the second moment of the solution, based on the points of a planar Poisson process. This is an extension of the formula given by Dalang, Mueller and Tribe [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 360 (2008) 4681-4703], in the case $H=1/2$, and allows us to obtain a lower bound for the second moment of the solution. These results suggest that the moments of the solution grow much faster in the case of the fractional noise in time than in the case of the white noise in time.

Malliavin differentiability of solutions of SPDEs with Lévy white noise

In this article, we consider a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) driven by a Lévy white noise, with Lipschitz multiplicative term $σ$. We prove that under some conditions, this equation has a unique random field solution. These conditions are verified by the stochastic heat and wave equations. We introduce the basic elements of Malliavin calculus with respect to the compensated Poisson random measure associated with the Lévy white noise. If $σ$ is affine, we prove that the solution is Malliavin differentiable and its Malliavin derivative satisfies a stochastic integral equation.

Parabolic Anderson Model with space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise and rough initial condition

In this article, we study the Parabolic Anderson Model driven by a space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise on $\mathbb{R}_{+} \times \mathbb{R}^d$, whose covariance kernels in space and time are locally integrable non-negative functions, which are non-negative definite (in the sense of distributions). We assume that the initial condition is given by a signed Borel measure on $\mathbb{R}^d$, and the spectral measure of the noise satisfies Dalang's (1999) condition. Under these conditions, we prove that this equation has a unique solution, and we investigate the magnitude of the $p$-th moments of the solution, for any $p \geq 2$. In addition, we show that this solution has a Hölder continuous modification with the same regularity and under the same condition as in the case of the white noise in time, regardless of the temporal covariance function of the noise.

SPDEs with rough noise in space: Hölder continuity of the solution

We consider the stochastic wave and heat equations with affine multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like the fractional Brownian motion with index $H \in (\frac14,\frac12)$. The existence and uniqueness of the solution to these equations has been proved recently by the authors. In the present note we show that these solutions have modifications which are Hölder continuous in space of order smaller than $H$, and Hölder continuous in time of order smaller than $γ$, where $γ=H$ for the wave equation and $γ=H/2$ for the heat equation.

Intermittency for the wave equation with Lévy white noise

In this article, we consider the stochastic wave equation in dimension 1 driven by the Lévy white noise introduced in Balan (2015). Using Rosenthal's inequality, we develop a maximal inequality for the moments of order $p \geq 2$ of the integral with respect to this noise. Based on this inequality, we show that this equation has a unique solution, which is weakly intermittent in the sense of Foondun and Khoshnevisan (2009) and Khoshnevisan (2014).

Itô formula for integral processes related to space-time Lévy white noise

In this article, we give a new proof of the Itô formula for some integral processes related to the space-time Lévy white noise introduced in Balan (2015) as an alternative for the Gaussian white noise perturbing an SPDE. We discuss two applications of this result, which are useful in the study of SPDEs driven by a space-time Lévy noise with finite variance: a maximal inequality for the $p$-th moment of the stochastic integral, and the Itô representation theorem leading to a chaos expansion similar to the Gaussian case.

Functional Convergence of Linear Processes with Heavy-Tailed Innovations

We study convergence in law of partial sums of linear processes with heavy-tailed innovations. In the case of summable coefficients necessary and sufficient conditions for the finite dimensional convergence to an $α$-stable Lévy Motion are given. The conditions lead to new, tractable sufficient conditions in the case $α\leq 1$. In the functional setting we complement the existing results on $M_1$-convergence, obtained for linear processes with nonnegative coefficients by Avram and Taqqu (1992) and improved by Louhichi and Rio (2011), by proving that in the general setting partial sums of linear processes are convergent on the Skorokhod space equipped with the $S$ topology, introduced by Jakubowski (1997).

Linear SPDEs with harmonizable noise

Using tools from the theory of random fields with stationary increments, we introduce a new class of processes which can be used as a model for the noise perturbing an SPDE. This type of noise (called harmonizable) is not necessarily Gaussian, but it includes the spatially homogeneous Gaussian noise introduced in Dalang (1999), and the fractional noise considered in Balan and Tudor (2010). We derive some general conditions for the existence of a random field solution of a linear SPDE with harmonizable noise, under some mild conditions imposed on the Green function of the differential operator which appears in this equation. This methodology is applied to the study of the heat and wave equations (possibly replacing the Laplacian by one of its fractional powers), extending in this manner the results of Balan and Tudor (2010) to the case $H<1/2$.
