Coupled Moebius Maps as a Tool to Model Kuramoto Phase Synchronization

We propose Moebius maps as a tool to model synchronization phenomena in coupled phase oscillators. Not only does the map provide fast computation of phase synchronization, it also reflects the underlying group structure of the sinusoidally coupled continuous phase dynamics. We study map versions of various known continuous-time collective dynamics, such as the synchronization transition in the Kuramoto-Sakaguchi model of non-identical oscillators, chimeras in two coupled populations of identical phase oscillators, and Kuramoto-Battogtokh chimeras on a ring, and demonstrate similarities and differences between the iterated map models and their known continuous-time counterparts.

Spectral properties of fractional Fokker-Plank operator for the Lévy flight in a harmonic potential

We present a detailed analysis of the eigenfunctions of the Fokker-Planck operator for the Lévy-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, their asymptotic behavior and recurrence relations, explicit expressions in coordinate space for the special cases of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with Gaussian and with Cauchy white noise and for the transformation kernel, which maps the fractional Fokker-Planck operator of the Cauchy-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process to the non-fractional Fokker-Planck operator of the usual Gaussian Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We also describe how non-spectral relaxation can be observed in bounded random variables of the Lévy-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process and their correlation functions.

Synchronization Transition of Identical Phase Oscillators in a Directed Small-World Network

We numerically study a directed small-world network consisting of attractively coupled, identical phase oscillators. While complete synchronization is always stable, it is not always reachable from random initial conditions. Depending on the shortcut density and on the asymmetry of the phase coupling function, there exists a regime of persistent chaotic dynamics. By increasing the density of shortcuts or decreasing the asymmetry of the phase coupling function, we observe a discontinuous transition in the ability of the system to synchronize. Using a control technique, we identify the bifurcation scenario of the order parameter. We also discuss the relation between dynamics and topology and remark on the similarity of the synchronization transition to directed percolation.
