Application of AdS/CFT in Nuclear Physics

We review some recent progress in studying the nuclear physics especially nucleon-nucleon (NN) force within the gauge-gravity duality, in context of noncritical string theory. Our main focus is on the holographic QCD model based on the $AdS_6$ background. We explain the noncritical holography model and obtain the vector-meson spectrum and pion decay constant. Also, we study the NN interaction in this frame and calculate the nucleon-meson coupling constants. A further topic covered is a toy model for calculating the light nuclei potential. In particular, we calculate the light nuclei binding energies and also excited energies of some available excited states. We compare our results with the results of other nuclear models and also with the experimental data. Moreover, we describe some other issues which are studied using the gauge-gravity duality.

Strong-coupling Jet Energy Loss from AdS/CFT

We propose a novel definition of a holographic light hadron jet and consider the phenomenological consequences, including the very first fully self-consistent, completely strong-coupling calculation of the jet nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$, which we find compares surprisingly well with recent preliminary data from LHC. We show that the thermalization distance for light parton jets is an extremely sensitive function of the \emph{a priori} unspecified string initial conditions and that worldsheets corresponding to non-asymptotic energy jets are not well approximated by a collection of null geodesics. Our new string jet prescription, which is defined by a separation of scales from plasma to jet, leads to the re-emergence of the late-time Bragg peak in the instantaneous jet energy loss rate; unlike heavy quarks, the energy loss rate is unusually sensitive to the very definition of the string theory object itself. A straightforward application of the new jet definition leads to significant jet quenching, even in the absence of plasma. By renormalizing the in-medium suppression by that in the vacuum we find qualitative agreement with preliminary CMS $R_{AA}^{jet}(p_T)$ data in our simple plasma brick model. We close with comments on our results and an outlook on future work.

Binding energy of a holographic deuteron and tritium in anti-de-Sitter space/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT)

In the large 't Hooft coupling limit, the hadronic size of baryon is small and nucleon-nucleon potential is obtained from massless pseudo-scalar exchanges and an infinite tower of spin one mesons exchanges. In this paper we use the holographic nucleon-nucleon interaction and obtain the corresponding potential and binding energy for deuteron and tritium nuclei. The obtained potentials are repulsive at short distances and clearly become zero by increasing distance as we expected.

Nucleon-Meson Couplings in One Boson Exchange Potential using Non-Critical String Theory

A non-critical holographic QCD model constructed in the six dimensional Anti-de-Sitter ($AdS_6$) supergravity background is employed to study a the baryon. It is shown that the size of the baryon is of order one with respect to the $λ$, however, it is smaller than the scale of the dual QCD. An effective four dimensional action for the nucleon is obtained in terms of the meson exchange potentials. All meson-nucleon couplings in the non-critical $AdS_6$ background are calculated. Results obtained using our model are compared with predictions of four modern phenomenological interaction models. Also, our numerical results are compared with the results of the Sakai-Sugimoto (SS) model which indicate that the non-critical holographic QCD model can be a good toy to calculate the meson-nucleon couplings.

The Holographic Description of Baryon in Non- Critical String Theory

We consider a holographic model constructed from an intersecting brane configuration $D4/D4/\bar{D4}$ in noncritical string theory. We study the baryon in the confined phase of this supergravity by considering the source term for the baryon. Also, the thermodynamics functions are studied. Moreover, we obtain the binding energy of the baryon in this holographic QCD-like model.

Baryon Binding Energy in Sakai-Sugimoto Model

The binding energy of baryon has been studied in the dual $AdS_5\times S^5$ string theory with a black hole interior. In this picture baryon is constructed of a $D_5$ brane vertex wrapping on $S^5$ and $N_c$ fundamental strings connected to it. Here, we calculate the baryon binding energy in Sakai-Sugimoto model with a $D_4/D_8/\bar{D_8}$ in which the supersymmetry is completely broken. Also we check the $T$ dependence of the baryon binding energy. We believe that this model represents an accurate description of baryons due to the existence of Chern-Simones coupling with the gauge field on the brane. We obtain an analytical expression for the baryon binding energy . In that case we plot the baryon binding energy in terms of radial coordinate. Then by using the binding energy diagram, we determine the stability range for baryon configuration. And also the position and energy of the stable equilibrium point is obtained by the corresponding diagram. Also we plot the baryon binding energy in terms of temperature and estimate a critical temperature in which the baryon would be dissociated.
