Revisiting the Israel junction conditions in Einstein-Cartan gravity

The Israel junction conditions of a thin shell in the context of Einstein-Cartan gravity are revisited. It is shown that with a choice of the torsion discontinuity taken to be orthogonal to the hypersurface and consistent with the antisymmetric properties of torsion tensor and contorsion tensor, the generalized asymmetric surface energy-momentum tensor turns out to be tangent to the hypersurface while the resulting generalized Israel junction conditions are modified. The main differences to previous works are mentioned.

On the stress-energy tensor of a null shell in Einstein-Cartan gravity

The stress-energy tensor of a matter shell whose history coincides with a null hypersurface in the Einstein-Cartan gravity is revisited. It is demonstrated that with a proper choice for the torsion discontinuity taken to be orthogonal to the null hypersurface and consistent with the antisymmetric property of torsion tensor, the modified expression for the asymmetric stress-energy tensor is automatically tangent to the hypersurface. The main differences with respect to a previous work are addressed

Effective time variation of G in a model universe with variable space dimension

Time variation of Newtonian gravitational constant, GG, is studied in the model universe with variable space dimension proposed recently. Using the Lagrangian formulation of these models, we find the effective gravitational constant as a function of time. To compare it with observational data, a test theory for the time variation of GG is formulated. We have assumed a power law behavior of the time variation of GG where the exponent ββ is itself time dependent. Within this test theory we are able to restrict the free parameter of the theories under consideration and give upper bounds for the space dimension at the Planck era. The time variation of GG at earlier times, such as the time of nucleosynthesis is also predicted which express the needs to look for related observational data.
