Self-dual $CP(2)$ vortex-like solitons in the presence of magnetic impurities

We investigate the existence of vortex configurations in two gauged-$CP(2)$ models extended via the inclusion of magnetic impurities. In particular, we consider both the Maxwell-$CP(2)$ and the Chern-Simons-$CP(2)$ enlarged scenarios, separately. We choose a $CP(2)$-field configuration with a null topological charge not only in the simplest (free) case, but also when coupled to an Abelian gauge field. The implementation of the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) formalism shows that the effective models for such a configuration possess a self-dual structure which looks like those inherent to the gauged sigma models. Therefore, when the $CP(2)$ field is coupled to the Maxwell term, the corresponding total energy possesses both a well-defined Bogomol'nyi bound and a quantized magnetic flux. Further, when the $CP(2)$ scenario is gauged with the Chern-Simons action, the total electric charge is verified to be proportional to the quantized magnetic flux. In addition, the analysis verifies that the magnetic impurity contributes to the BPS potentials and appears in both the models' BPS equations. Next, we introduce a Gaussian type impurity and solve the self-dual equations via a finite-difference scheme. The resulting solutions present a nonmonotonic behavior that flips both the magnetic and electric fields. Finally, we discuss the topologically trivial solutions in the limit for which the impurity becomes a Dirac $δ$-function.

Exact Kerr-like solution and its shadow in a gravity model with spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking

We obtain an exact Kerr-like black hole solution by solving the corresponding gravitational field equations in Einstein-bumblebee gravity model where Lorentz symmetry is spontaneously broken once a vector field acquires a vacuum expectation value. Results are presented for the purely radial Lorentz symmetry breaking. In order to study the effects of this breaking, we consider the black hole shadow and find that the radial of the unstable spherical orbit on the equatorial plane $r_c$ decreases with the Lorentz breaking constant $\ell>0$, and increases with $\ell<0$. These shifts are similar to those of Einstein-aether black hole. The effect of the LV parameter on the black hole shadow is that it accelerates the appearance of shadow distortion, and could be detected by the new generation of gravitational antennas.

Gupta-Bleuler's quantization of a parity-odd CPT-even electrodynamics of the standard model extension

{Following a successfully quantization scheme previously }{{% developed {\ in Ref. \cite{GUPTAEVEN} for a}} parity-even {gauge sector} {of the SME, we}} have established the Gupta-Bleuler {% quantization {of a} {\ parity-odd} and CPT-even }electrodynamics of {the }standard model extension (SME) {without recoursing to a small photon mass regulator}. {Keeping the photons massless,} {% {we have adopted the gauge fixing condition:}} $G(A_{μ})=(\partial _{0}+κ^{0j}\partial _{j}) (A_{0}+κ^{0k}A_{k})+\partial _{i}A^{i}$% . The{\ four} polarization vectors of the gauge field are {% exactly} determined by solving an eigenvalue problem,{\ exhibiting birefringent second order contributions in the Lorentz-violating parameters}% . They allow to express the Hamiltonian in terms of annihilation and creation operators whose positivity is guaranteed by imposing a weak Gupta-Bleuler constraint, defining the physical states. Consequently, we compute the field commutation relation which has been expressed in terms of Pauli-Jordan functions modified by Lorentz violation whose light-cone structures have allowed to analyze the microcausality issue.

Self-dual configurations in Abelian Higgs models with $k$-generalized gauge field dynamics

We have shown the existence of self-dual solutions in new Maxwell-Higgs scenarios where the gauge field possesses a $k$-generalized dynamic, i.e., the kinetic term of gauge field is a highly nonlinear function of $F_{μν}F^{μν}$. We have implemented our proposal by means of a $k$-generalized model displaying the spontaneous symmetry breaking phenomenon. We implement consistently the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield formalism providing highly nonlinear self-dual equations whose solutions are electrically neutral possessing total energy proportional to the magnetic flux. Among the infinite set of possible configurations, we have found families of $k$-generalized models whose self-dual equations have a form mathematically similar to the ones arising in the Maxwell-Higgs or Chern-Simons-Higgs models. Furthermore, we have verified that our proposal also supports infinite twinlike models with $|ϕ|^4$-potential or $|ϕ|^6$-potential. With the aim to show explicitly that the BPS equations are able to provide well-behaved configurations, we have considered a test model in order to study axially symmetric vortices. By depending of the self-dual potential, we have shown that the $k$-generalized model is able to produce solutions that for long distances have a exponential decay (as Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortices) or have a power-law decay (characterizing delocalized vortices). In all cases, we observe that the generalization modifies the vortex core size, the magnetic field amplitude and the bosonic masses but the total energy remains proportional to the quantized magnetic flux.

Self-dual solitons in a $CPT$-odd and Lorentz-violating gauged $O(3)$ sigma model

We have performed a complete study of self-dual configurations in a $CPT$-odd and Lorentz-violating gauged $O(3)$ nonlinear sigma model. We have consistently implemented the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) formalism and obtained the correspondent differential first-order equations describing electrically charged self-dual configurations. The total energy and magnetic flux of the vortices, besides being proportional to the winding number, also depend explicitly on the Lorentz-violating coefficients belonging to the sigma sector. The total electrical charge is proportional to the magnetic flux such as it occurs in Chern-Simons models. The Lorentz violation in the sigma sector allows one to interpolate between Lorentz-violating versions of some sigma models: the gauged $O(3)$ sigma model and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons $O(3)$ sigma model. The Lorentz violation enhances the amplitude of the magnetic field and BPS energy density near the origin, augmenting the deviation in relation to the solutions deprived of Lorentz violation.

Topological self-dual configurations in a Lorentz-violating gauged O(3) sigma model

We have studied the existence of topological Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield or self-dual configurations in a Lorentz-violating gauged $O(3)$ nonlinear sigma model, where $CPT$-even Lorentz-violating (LV) terms were introduced in both the gauge and $σ$% -field sectors. As happens in the usual gauged $σ$ model, purely magnetic self-dual configurations are allowed, maintaining some qualitative features of the standard ones. In a more involved configuration, Lorentz violation provides new self-dual magnetic solutions carrying an electric field but a null total electric charge. In both cases, the total energy of the self-dual configurations turns out to be proportional to the topological charge of the model and to the LV parameters introduced in the $% σ$ sector. It is shown that the LV terms yield magnetic flux reversion as well.

Evidences of an innermost stable bound orbit predicted by general relativity from the amplitude of the twin-peak quasi-periodic oscillations

The twin-peak high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (HF QPOs), observed in the power spectra of low-mass X-ray binaries, might carry relevant clues about the physics laws reigning close to a compact object. Their frequencies are typical of the orbital motion time-scales a few gravitational radii away from the compact object. The aim of the manuscript is to propose an intuitive model explaining that the energy carried by the lower HF QPO can be related to differences of potential energy released by clumps of plasma spiraling in a curved space-time. Our model provides estimates on both the size of clumps of matter that can survive to the strong tidal force and energy loaded by tides on the clump. We also have obtained some constraints on the mechanical properties of the plasma orbiting into the accretion disk. We note that the systematic behavior of the emitted energy as function of the central frequency of the lower HF QPO, observed in several sources with a neutron star, might give clues related to an innermost stable bound orbit predicted by the General Relativity theory in strong field regime.

Generation of geometrical phases and persistent spin currents in 1-dimensional rings by Lorentz-violating terms

We have demonstrated that Lorentz-violating terms stemming from the fermion sector of the SME are able to generate geometrical phases on the wave function of electrons confined in 1-dimensional rings, as well as persistent spin currents, in the total absence of electromagnetic fields. We have explicitly evaluated the eigenenergies and eigenspinors of the electrons modified by the Lorentz-violating terms, using them to calculate the dynamic and the Aharonov-Anandan phases in the sequel. The total phase presents a pattern very similar to the Aharonov-Casher phase accumulated by electrons in rings under the action of the Rashba interaction. Finally, the persistent spin current were carried out and used to impose upper bounds on the Lorentz-violating parameters.

Topological vortices in generalized Born-Infeld-Higgs electrodynamics

A consistent BPS formalism to study the existence of topological axially symmetric vortices in generalized versions of the Born-Infeld-Higgs electrodynamics is implemented. Such a generalization modifies the field dynamics via introduction of three non-negative functions depending only in the Higgs field, namely, $G(|ϕ|)$, $w(|ϕ|) $ and $V(|ϕ|)$. A set of first-order differential equations is attained when these functions satisfy a constraint related to the Ampere law. Such a constraint allows to minimize the system energy in such way that it becomes proportional to the magnetic flux. Our results provides an enhancement of topological vortex solutions in Born-Infeld-Higgs electrodynamics. Finally, we analyze a set of models such that a generalized version of Maxwell-Higgs electrodynamics is recovered in a certain limit of the theory.

Trapping Spin-$0$ particles on $p-$balls in $(D,1)$ dimensions

p-Balls are topological defects in $(D,1)$ dimensions constructed with $\mathcal{M}\ge 1$ scalar fields which depend radially on only $2 \le p\le D-2$ spatial dimensions. Such defects are characterized by an action that breaks translational invariance and are inspired on the physics of a brane with $D-p$ extra dimensions. Here we consider the issue of localization of bosonic states described by a scalar field $Φ$ sufficiently weak to not disturb sensibly the defect configuration. After describing the general formalism, we consider some specify examples with $\mathcal{M}=1,2$ and $3$, looking for some region of parameters where bound and resonant bosonic states can be found. We investigate the way the influence of the defect structure, number of radial dimensions and coupling between the fields are related to the occurrence of bound and resonant states.

$SQED_4$ and $QED_4$ on the null-plane

We studied the scalar electrodynamics ($SQED_{4}$) and the spinor electrodynamics ($QED_{4}$) in the null-plane formalism. We followed the Dirac's technique for constrained systems to perform a detailed analysis of the constraint structure in both theories. We imposed the appropriated boundary conditions on the fields to fix the hidden subset first class constraints which generate improper gauge transformations and obtain an unique inverse of the second class constraint matrix. Finally, choosing the null-plane gauge condition, we determined the generalized Dirac brackets of the independent dynamical variables which via the correspondence principle give the (anti)-commutators for posterior quantization.

Analytical BPS Maxwell-Higgs vortices

We have established a prescription for the calculation of analytical vortex solutions in the context of generalized Maxwell-Higgs models whose overall dynamics is controlled by two positive functions of the scalar field. We have also determined a natural constraint between these functions and the Higgs potential allowing the existence of axially symmetric Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) solutions possessing finite energy. Furthermore, when the generalizing functions are chosen suitably, the nonstandard BPS equations can be solved exactly. We have studied some examples, comparing them with the usual Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen (ANO) solution. The overall conclusion is that the analytical self-dual vortices are well-behaved in all relevant sectors, strongly supporting the generalized models they belong themselves. In particular, our results mimic well-known properties of the usual (numerical) configurations, as localized energy density, while contributing to the understanding of topological solitons and their description by means of analytical methods.

Einstein-Hilbert Graviton modes modified by the Lorentz-violating bumblebee Field

In this work, we investigate the consequences of the spontaneous breaking of Lorentz symmetry, triggered by the bumblebee vector field, on the usual Einstein-Hilbert theory. Specifically, we consider the Einstein-Hilbert action modified by the bumblebee dynamic field, and evaluate the graviton propagator using an extended basis of Barnes-Rivers tensor projectors, involving the Lorentz-violating vector. Once the propagator is carried out, we proceed with discussing the consistency of the model, writing the dispersion relations, and analyzing causality and unitarity. We verify that this model possesses two dispersion relations: one provides causal and unitary propagating modes, while the second yields a causal but nonunitary mode which spoils the physical consistency of the model.

Gupta--Bleuler's quantization of the anisotropic parity-even and CPT-even electrodynamics of standard model extension

We have established the Gupta-Bleuler quantization of the photon belonging to the anisotropic parity-even sector of the CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonbirefringent electrodynamics of the standard model extension. We first present a rule for the Maxwell electrodynamics to be successfully quantized via Gupta-Bleuler technique in the Lorentz gauge. Recognizing the failure of the Gupta-Bleuler method in the Lorentz gauge, $\partial _{μ}A^{μ}=0$, for this massless LV theory, we argue that Gupta-Bleuler can be satisfactorily implemented by choosing a modified Lorentz condition, $\partial _{μ}A^{μ}+κ^{μν}\partial _{μ}A_{ν}=0$, where $κ^{μν}$ represents the Lorentz-violation in photon sector. By using a plane-wave expansion for the gauge field, whose polarization vectors are determined by solving an eigenvalue problem, and a weak Gupta-Bleuler condition, we obtain a positive-energy Hamiltonian in terms of annihilation and creation operators. The field commutation relation is written in terms of modified Pauli-Jordan functions, revealing the preservation of microcausality for sufficiently small LV parameters.

Maxwell-Chern-Simons vortices in a CPT-odd Lorentz-violating Higgs Electrodynamics

We have studied BPS vortices in a CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs (MCSH) electrodynamics attained from the dimensional reduction of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw-Higgs model. The Lorentz-violating parameter induces a pronounced behavior at origin (for the magnetic/electric fields and energy density) which is absent in the MCSH vortices. For some combination of the Lorentz-violating coefficients there always exist a sufficiently large winding number $n_{0}$ such that for all $% |n|\geq |n_{0}|$ the magnetic field flips its signal, yielding two well defined regions with opposite magnetic flux. However, the total magnetic flux remains quantized and proportional to the winding number.

Topological charged BPS vortices in Lorentz-violating Maxwell-Higgs electrodynamics

We have performed a complete study of BPS vortex solutions in the Abelian sector of the standard model extension (SME). Specifically, we have coupled the SME electromagnetism with a Higgs field which is supplemented with a Lorentz-violating CPT-even term. We have verified that Lorentz violation (LV) belonging to the Higgs sector allows to interpolate between some well known models like, Maxwell-Higgs, Chern-Simons-Higgs and Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs. We can also observed that the electrical charged density distribution is nonnull in both CPT-even and CPT-odd models; however, the total electric charge in the CPT-even case is null, whereas in the CPT-odd one it is proportional to the quantized magnetic flux. The following general results can be established in relation to the LV introduced in the Higgs sector: it changes the vortex ansatz and the gauge field boundary conditions. A direct consequence is that the magnetic flux, besides being proportional to the winding number, also depends explicitly on the Lorentz-violation belonging to the Higgs sector.

Trapping of Spin-0 fields on tube-like topological defects

We have considered the localization of resonant bosonic states described by a scalar field $Φ$ trapped in tube-like topological defects. The tubes are formed by radial symmetric defects in $(2,1)$ dimensions, constructed with two scalar fields $ϕ$ and $χ$, and embedded in the $(3,1)-$dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The general coupling between the topological defect and the scalar field $Φ$ is given by the potential $ηF(ϕ,χ)Φ^2$. After a convenient decomposition of the field $Φ$, we find that the amplitudes of the radial modes satisfy Schrödinger-like equations whose eigenvalues are the masses of the bosonic resonances. Specifically, we have analyzed two simple couplings: the first one is $F(ϕ,χ)=χ^2$ for a fourth-order potential and, the second one is a sixth-order interaction characterized by $F(ϕ,χ)=(ϕχ)^2$% . In both cases the Schrödinger-like equations are numerically solved with appropriated boundary conditions. Several resonance peaks for both models are obtained and the numerical analysis showed that the fourth-order potential generates more resonances than the sixth-order one.

Analytical self-dual solutions in a nonstandard Yang-Mills-Higgs scenario

We have found analytical self-dual solutions within the generalized Yang-Mills-Higgs model introduced in Phys. Rev. D 86, 085034 (2012). Such solutions are magnetic monopoles satisfying Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) equations and usual finite energy boundary conditions. Moreover, the new solutions are classified in two different types according to their capability of recovering (or not) the usual 't Hooft--Polyakov monopole. Finally, we compare the profiles of the solutions we found with the standard ones, from which we comment about the main features exhibited by the new configurations.

Deformed self-dual magnetic monopoles

We develop a deformation method for attaining new magnetic monopole analytical solutions consistent with generalized Yang-Mills-Higgs model introduced recently. The new solutions fulfill the usual radially symmetric ansatz and the boundary conditions suitable to assure finite energy configurations. We verify our prescription by studying some particular cases involving both exactly and partially analytical initial configurations whose deformation leads to new analytic BPS monopoles. The results show consistency among the models, the deformation procedure and the profile of the new solutions.

Radiative generation of the CPT-even gauge term of the SME from a dimension-five nonminimal coupling term

In this letter we show for the first time that the usual CPT-even gauge term of the standard model extension (SME) can be radiatively generated, in a gauge invariant level, in the context of a modified QED endowed with a dimension-five nonminimal coupling term recently proposed in the literature. As a consequence, the existing upper bounds on the coefficients of the tensor $(K_{F}) $ can be used improve the bounds on the magnitude of the nonminimal coupling, $λ(K_{F}),$ by the factors $10^{5}$ or $10^{25}.$ The nonminimal coupling also generates higher-order derivative contributions to the gauge field effective action quadratic terms.

Trapping Dirac fermions in tubes generated by two scalar fields

In this work we consider $(1,1)-$dimensional resonant Dirac fermionic states on tube-like topological defects. The defects are formed by rings in $(2,1)$ dimensions, constructed with two scalar field $ϕ$ and $χ$, and embedded in the $(3,1)-$dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The tube-like defects are attained from a lagrangian density explicitly dependent with the radial distance $r$ relative to the ring axis and the radius and thickness of the its cross-section are related to the energy density. For our purposes we analyze a general Yukawa-like coupling between the topological defect and the fermionic field $ηF(ϕ,χ)\barψψ$. With a convenient decomposition of the fermionic fields in left- and right- chiralities, we establish a coupled set of first order differential equations for the amplitudes of the left- and right- components of the Dirac field. After decoupling and decomposing the amplitudes in polar coordinates, the radial modes satisfy Schrödinger-like equations whose eigenvalues are the masses of the fermionic resonances. With $F(ϕ,χ)=ϕχ$ the Schrödinger-like equations are numerically solved with appropriated boundary conditions. Several resonance peaks for both chiralities are obtained, and the results are confronted with the qualitative analysis of the Schrödinger-like potentials.

A new CPT-even and Lorentz-Violating nonminimal coupling in the Dirac equation

In this work, we propose a CPT-even and Lorentz-violating dimension-five nonminimal coupling between fermionic and gauge fields, involving the CTP-even and Lorentz-violating gauge tensor of the SME. This nonminimal coupling modifies the Dirac equation, whose nonrelativistic regime is governed by a Hamiltonian which induces new effects, such as an electric-Zeeman-like spectrum splitting and an anomalous-like contribution to the electron magnetic moment, between others. Some of these new effects allows to constrain the magnitude of this nonminimal coupling in 1 part in 10^16.

Effects of a CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal coupling on the electron-positron scattering

We propose a new \emph{CPT}-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal coupling between fermions and Abelian gauge fields involving the CPT-even tensor $(K_{F})_{μναβ}$ of the standard model extension. We thus investigate its effects on the cross section of the electron-positron scattering by analyzing the process $e^{+}+e^{-}\rightarrowμ^{+}+μ^{-}$. Such a study was performed for the parity-odd and parity-even nonbirefringent components of the Lorentz-violating $(K_{F})_{μναβ}$ tensor. Finally, by using experimental data available in the literature, we have imposed upper bounds as tight as $10^{-12}(eV)^{-1}$ on the magnitude of the CPT-even and Lorentz-violating parameters while nonminimally coupled.

Generalized BPS magnetic monopoles

We show the existence of Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) magnetic monopoles in a generalized Yang-Mills-Higgs model which is controlled by two positive functions. This effective model, in principle, would describe the dynamics of the nonabelian fields in a chromoelectric media. We check the consistency of our generalized construction by analyzing an explicit case ruled by a real parameter. We also use the well-known spherically symmetric Ansatz to attain the corresponding self-dual equations describing the topological solutions. The overall conclusion is that the new solutions behave around the canonical one, with smaller or greater characteristic length.

Generalized self-dual Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs model

We present a consistent BPS framework for a generalized Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs model. The overall model, including its self-dual potential, depends on three different functions, h(|ϕ|,N), w(|ϕ|) and G(|ϕ|), which are functions of the scalar fields only. The BPS energy is proportional to the magnetic flux when w(|ϕ|) and G(|ϕ|) are related to each other by a differential constraint. We present an explicit non-standard model and its topologically non-trivial static configurations, which are described by the usual radially symmetric profile. Finally, we note that the non-standard results behave in a similar way as their standard counterparts, as expected, reinforcing the consistence of the overall construction.

Magnetic flux inversion in Charged BPS vortices in a Lorentz-violating Maxwell-Higgs framework

We demonstrate for the first the existence of electrically charged BPS vortices in a Maxwell-Higgs model supplemented with a parity-odd Lorentz-violating (LV) structure belonging to the CPT-even gauge sector of the standard model extension and a fourth order potential (in the absence of the Chern-Simons term). The modified first order BPS equations provide charged vortex configurations endowed with some interesting features: localized and controllable spatial thickness, integer flux quantization, electric field inversion and localized magnetic flux reversion. This model could possibly be applied on condensed matter systems which support charged vortices carrying integer quantized magnetic flux, endowed with localized flipping of the magnetic flux.

Uncharged compactlike and fractional Lorentz-violating BPS vortices in the CPT-even sector of the standard model extension

We have investigated and verified the existence of stable uncharged Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfeld (BPS) vortices in the framework of an Abelian Maxwell-Higgs model supplemented with CPT-even and Lorentz-violating (LV) terms belonging to the gauge and Higgs sectors of the standard model extension. The analysis is performed in two situations: first, one by considering the Lorentz violation only in the gauge sector and then in both gauge and Higgs sectors. In the first case, it is observed that the model supports vortices somehow equivalent to the ones appearing in a dielectric medium. The Lorentz violation controls the radial extension (core of the solution) and the magnetic field amplitude of the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortices, yielding compactlike defects in an alternative and simpler way than that of $k-$field models. At the end, we consider the Lorentz-violating terms in the gauge and Higgs sectors. It is shown that the full model also supports compactlike uncharged BPS vortices in a modified vacuum, but this time there are two LV parameters controlling the defect structure. Moreover, an interesting novelty is introduced by the LV-Higgs sector: fractional vortex solutions.

Conformal invariance of massless Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory in Riemannian space-times

We investigate the conformal invariance of massless Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory coupled to riemannian space-times. We show that, as usual, in the minimal coupling procedure only the spin 1 sector of the theory -which corresponds to the electromagnetic field- is conformally invariant. We show also that the conformal invariance of the spin 0 sector can be naturally achieved by introducing a compensating term in the lagrangian. Such a procedure -besides not modifying the spin 1 sector- leads to the well-known conformal coupling between the scalar curvature and the massless Klein-Gordon-Fock field. Going beyond the riemannian spacetimes, we briefly discuss the effects of a nonvanishing torsion in the scalar case.

Sum rules in the oscillator radiation processes

We consider the problem of an harmonic oscillator coupled to a scalar field in the framework of recently introduced dressed coordinates. We compute all the probabilities associated with the decay process of an excited level of the oscillator. Instead of doing direct quantum mechanical calculations we establish some sum rules from which we infer the probabilities associated to the different decay processes of the oscillator. Thus, the sum rules allows to show that the transition probabilities between excited levels follow a binomial distribution.

Spin 1 fields in Riemann-Cartan space-times "via" Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory

We consider massive spin 1 fields, in Riemann-Cartan space-times, described by Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory. We show that this approach induces a coupling between the spin 1 field and the space-time torsion which breaks the usual equivalence with the Proca theory, but that such equivalence is preserved in the context of the Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity.
