In this article, we establish an asymptotic formula for the eighth moment of the Riemann zeta function, assuming the Riemann hypothesis and a quaternary additive divisor conjecture. This builds on the work of the first author on the sixth moment of the Riemann zeta function and work of Conrey-Gonek and Ivić. A key input is a sharp bound for a certain shifted moment of the Riemann zeta function, assuming the Riemann hypothesis.
We study the fourth moment of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions at $s= \frac{1}{2}$. We show an asymptotic formula under the generalized Riemann hypothesis, and obtain a precise lower bound unconditionally. The proofs of these results follow closely arguments of Soundararajan and Young [19] and Soundararajan [17].
Let $\mathcal{P}$ denote the set of all primes. $P_{1},P_{2},P_{3}$ are three subsets of $\mathcal{P}$. Let $\underlineδ(P_{i})$ $(i=1,2,3)$ denote the lower density of $P_{i}$ in $\mathcal{P}$, respectively. It is proved that if $\underlineδ(P_{1})>5/8$, $\underlineδ(P_{2})\geq5/8$, and $\underlineδ(P_{3})\geq5/8$, then for every sufficiently large odd integer n, there exist $p_{i} \in P_{i}$ such that $n=p_{1}+p_{2}+p_{3}$. The condition is the best possible.
