PROMISE: Process Reward Models Unlock Test-Time Scaling Laws in Generative Recommendations

Generative Recommendation has emerged as a promising paradigm, reformulating recommendation as a sequence-to-sequence generation task over hierarchical Semantic IDs. However, existing methods suffer from a critical issue we term Semantic Drift, where errors in early, high-level tokens irreversibly divert the generation trajectory into irrelevant semantic subspaces. Inspired by Process Reward Models (PRMs) that enhance reasoning in Large Language Models, we propose Promise, a novel framework that integrates dense, step-by-step verification into generative models. Promise features a lightweight PRM to assess the quality of intermediate inference steps, coupled with a PRM-guided Beam Search strategy that leverages dense feedback to dynamically prune erroneous branches. Crucially, our approach unlocks Test-Time Scaling Laws for recommender systems: by increasing inference compute, smaller models can match or surpass larger models. Extensive offline experiments and online A/B tests on a large-scale platform demonstrate that Promise effectively mitigates Semantic Drift, significantly improving recommendation accuracy while enabling efficient deployment.

Unleashing the Native Recommendation Potential: LLM-Based Generative Recommendation via Structured Term Identifiers

Leveraging the vast open-world knowledge and understanding capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) to develop general-purpose, semantically-aware recommender systems has emerged as a pivotal research direction in generative recommendation. However, existing methods face bottlenecks in constructing item identifiers. Text-based methods introduce LLMs' vast output space, leading to hallucination, while methods based on Semantic IDs (SIDs) encounter a semantic gap between SIDs and LLMs' native vocabulary, requiring costly vocabulary expansion and alignment training. To address this, this paper introduces Term IDs (TIDs), defined as a set of semantically rich and standardized textual keywords, to serve as robust item identifiers. We propose GRLM, a novel framework centered on TIDs, employs Context-aware Term Generation to convert item's metadata into standardized TIDs and utilizes Integrative Instruction Fine-tuning to collaboratively optimize term internalization and sequential recommendation. Additionally, Elastic Identifier Grounding is designed for robust item mapping. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that GRLM significantly outperforms baselines across multiple scenarios, pointing a promising direction for generalizable and high-performance generative recommendation systems.

Emergence of quantum spin liquid and spin-flop phase in Kitaev antiferromagnets in a [111] magnetic field

Kitaev magnets have emerged as pivotal systems for investigating frustrated magnetism, providing a unique platform to explore quantum phases governed by the interplay between bond-dependent anisotropy and external magnetic fields. However, the quantum phase diagrams, particularly near the dominant antiferromagnetic Kitaev regime, remain puzzling despite extensive studies. In this work, we perform unbiased exact diagonalization calculations of the Kitaev-$Γ$ model in a [111] magnetic field on a $C_{6}$-symmetric 24-site cluster. By calculating the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ flux density and the topological entanglement entropy, we reveal multiple phase transitions and identify signatures of both scalar and vector chiral orders in the intermediate-field regime between the Kitaev spin liquid and the polarized phase. As the negative $Γ$ interaction increases, we discover a proximate quantum spin liquid featured by a three-peak specific heat and a spin-flop phase at a moderate magnetic field. Our findings provide insight into the field-induced intermediate phases in the antiferromagnetic Kitaev model and pave the way for the hunt for emergent phases in real materials.

Analytical results for the unusual Grüneisen ratio in the quantum Ising model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

The Grüneisen ratio (GR) has emerged as a superb tool for the diagnosis of quantum phase transitions, which diverges algebraically upon approaching critical points of continuous phase transitions. However, this paradigm has been challenged recently by observations of a finite GR for self-dual criticality and divergent GR at symmetry-enhanced first-order transitions. To unveil the fascinating GR further, we exemplify the idea by studying an exactly solvable quantum Ising model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, which harbors a ferromagnetic phase, a paramagnetic phase, and a chiral Luttinger liquid. Although the self-dual criticality of the ferromagnetic--paramagnetic transition is undermined by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, we find that the GR at the transition is still finite albeit with an increasing value, signifying a proximate self-dual relation. By contrast, the GR at the transition between the gapped ferromagnetic phase and the gapless Luttinger liquid diverges and changes its sign when crossing the first-order transition. This implies that the GR could also probe the first-order transition between the gapped and gapless phases.

Interplay of magnetic field and trigonal distortion in the honeycomb $Γ$ model: Occurrence of a spin-flop phase

In candidate Kitaev materials, the off-diagonal $Γ$ and $Γ'$ interactions are identified to come from the spin-orbit coupling and trigonal distortion, respectively. They have generated intense research efforts because of their intimate relation to the field-induced magnetically disordered state reported in $α$-RuCl$_3$. Theoretically, while a plethora of field-induced phases has been proposed in the honeycomb lattice, a stable intermediate phase that can survive in a wide parameter region regardless of the underlying phases is still lacking. Here we focus on the interplay of an out-of-plane magnetic field and a symmetry-allowed $Γ'$ term due to trigonal distortion in the dominant antiferromagnetic $Γ$ region. By using multifaceted approaches ranging from classical Monte Carlo and semiclassical spin-wave theory to density-matrix renormalization group, we identify an intriguing spin-flop phase in the presence of magnetic field and antiferromagnetic $Γ'$ interaction, before it eventually enters into a fully polarized state. As the $Γ'$ interaction approaches the size of $Γ$ one, the $Γ$-$Γ'$ model maps to the easy-axis XXZ antiferromagnet, where the spin-flop phase can be understood as a superfluid phase in the extended Bose-Hubbard model. Our finding thus demonstrates an exciting path from the honeycomb $Γ$ model towards a $U(1)$-symmetric XXZ antiferromagnet in a magnetic field.

Spontaneous Chiral-Spin Ordering in Spin-Orbit Coupled Honeycomb Magnets

Frustrated magnets with highly degenerate ground states are at the heart of hunting exotic states of matter. Recent studies in spin-orbit coupled honeycomb magnets have generated immense interest in bond-dependent interactions, appreciating a symmetric off-diagonal $Γ$ interaction which exhibits a macroscopic degeneracy in the classical limit. Here, we study a generic spin model and discover a novel chiral-spin ordering with spontaneously broken time-reversal symmetry near the dominant $Γ$ region. The chiral-spin phase is demonstrated to possess a staggered chirality relation in different sublattices, and it exhibits gapless excitations as revealed by the vanishing energy gap and the finite central charge on cylinders. Although there is a vestige of a tiny peak in the corner of the second Brillouin zone, the magnetic order is likely to vanish as the system size increases. Finally, we also attempt to gain insight into the possible topological signature of the chiral-spin phase by calculating the dynamic structure factor and the modular $\mathcal{S}$ matrix.

Strain-induced phase diagram of the $S = \frac32$ Kitaev material $\rm{CrSiTe_3}$

The interplay among anisotropic magnetic terms, such as the bond-dependent Kitaev interactions and single-ion anisotropy, plays a key role in stabilizing the finite-temperature ferromagnetism in the two-dimensional compound $\rm{CrSiTe_3}$. While the Heisenberg interaction is predominant in this material, a recent work shows that it is rather sensitive to the compressive strain, leading to a variety of phases, possibly including a sought-after Kitaev quantum spin liquid [C. Xu, \textit{et. al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{124}, 087205 (2020)]. To further understand these states, we establish the quantum phase diagram of a related bond-directional spin-$3/2$ model by the density-matrix renormalization group method. As the Heisenberg coupling varies from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic, three magnetically ordered phases, i.e., a ferromagnetic phase, a $120^\circ$ phase and an antiferromagnetic phase, appear consecutively. All the phases are separated by first-order phase transitions, as revealed by the kinks in the ground-state energy and the jumps in the magnetic order parameters. However, no positive evidence of the quantum spin liquid state is found and possible reasons are discussed briefly.

Local vibrational mode of impurity in a monatomic linear chain under open and periodic boundary conditions

In this paper, we revisit the lattice vibration of one-dimensional monatomic linear chain under open and periodic boundary conditions, and give the exact conditions for the emergence of the local vibration mode when one of the atoms is replaced by an impurity. Our motivation is twofold. Firstly, in deriving the dispersion relation of the atoms, periodic boundary condition is overwhelmingly utilized while open boundary condition is seldomly referred. Therefore we manage to obtain the dispersion relation under both boundary conditions simultaneously by Molinari formula. Secondly, in the presence of impurity, local vibration mode can emerge as long as the mass of the impurity $m'$ is smaller than the mass of the perfect atom $m$ to certain degree, which can be measured by the mass ratio $δ=\frac{m-m'}{m}$. At periodic boundary condition, the critical mass ratio is $0$ or $\frac{1}{N}$, depending on whether the length $N$ of the chain is even or odd. At open boundary condition, the critical mass ratio is $\frac{N}{2N-1}$ if the impurity locates at the end of the chain, while it is $\frac{N}{(2N_l+1)(2N_r+1)}$ with $N_l$ and $N_r$ be the number of atoms at the left and right hand sides of the impurity if the impurity locates at the middle.

A Padé approximant approach to two kinds of transcendental equations with applications in physics

In this paper, we obtain the analytical solutions of two kinds of transcendental equations with numerous applications in college physics by means of Lagrange inversion theorem, and rewrite them in the form of ratio of rational polynomials by second order Padé approximant afterwards from a practical and instructional perspective. Our method is illustrated in a pedagogical manner for the purpose that students at the undergraduate level will be beneficial. The approximate formulas introduced in the paper can be applied to abundant examples in physics textbooks, such as Fraunhofer single slit diffraction, Wien's displacement law and Schrödinger equation with single or double $δ$ potential. These formulas, consequently, can reach considerable accuracies according to the numerical results, therefore they promise to act as valuable ingredients in the standard teaching curriculum.

Numerical calculation of the Riemann zeta function at odd integer arguments: A direct formula method

In this article, we introduce a recurrence formula which only involves two adjacent values of the Riemann zeta function at integer arguments. Based on the formula, an algorithm to evaluate $ζ$-values(i.e. the values of Riemann zeta function) at odd-integers from the two nearest $ζ$-values at even-integers is posed and proved. The behavior of the error bound is $O(10^{-n})$ approximately where $n$ is the argument. Our method is especially powerful for the calculation of Riemann zeta function at large argument, while for smaller ones it can also reach spectacular accuracies such as more than ten decimal places.
