Draft, Command, and Edit: Controllable Text Editing in E-Commerce

Product description generation is a challenging and under-explored task. Most such work takes a set of product attributes as inputs then generates a description from scratch in a single pass. However, this widespread paradigm might be limited when facing the dynamic wishes of users on constraining the description, such as deleting or adding the content of a user-specified attribute based on the previous version. To address this challenge, we explore a new draft-command-edit manner in description generation, leading to the proposed new task-controllable text editing in E-commerce. More specifically, we allow systems to receive a command (deleting or adding) from the user and then generate a description by flexibly modifying the content based on the previous version. It is easier and more practical to meet the new needs by modifying previous versions than generating from scratch. Furthermore, we design a data augmentation method to remedy the low resource challenge in this task, which contains a model-based and a rule-based strategy to imitate the edit by humans. To accompany this new task, we present a human-written draft-command-edit dataset called E-cEdits and a new metric "Attribute Edit". Our experimental results show that using the new data augmentation method outperforms baselines to a greater extent in both automatic and human evaluations.

An Experimental Study on Microservices based Edge Computing Platforms

The rapid technological advances in the Internet of Things (IoT) allows the blueprint of Smart Cities to become feasible by integrating heterogeneous cloud/fog/edge computing paradigms to collaboratively provide variant smart services in our cities and communities. Thanks to attractive features like fine granularity and loose coupling, the microservices architecture has been proposed to provide scalable and extensible services in large scale distributed IoT systems. Recent studies have evaluated and analyzed the performance interference between microservices based on scenarios on the cloud computing environment. However, they are not holistic for IoT applications given the restriction of the edge device like computation consumption and network capacity. This paper investigates multiple microservice deployment policies on the edge computing platform. The microservices are developed as docker containers, and comprehensive experimental results demonstrate the performance and interference of microservices running on benchmark scenarios.

Robust Intrinsic Ferromagnetism and Half Semiconductivity in Stable Two-Dimensional Single-Layer Chromium Trihalides

Two-dimensional (2D) intrinsic ferromagnetic (FM) semiconductors are crucial to develop low-dimensional spintronic devices. Using density functional theory, we show that single-layer chromium trihalides (SLCTs) (CrX$_3$,X=F, Cl, Br and I) constitute a series of stable 2D intrinsic FM semiconductors. A free-standing SLCT can be easily exfoliated from the bulk crystal, due to a low cleavage energy and a high in-plane stiffness. Electronic structure calculations using the HSE06 functional indicate that both bulk and single-layer CrX$_3$ are half semiconductors with indirect gaps and their valence bands and conduction bands are fully spin-polarized in the same spin direction. The energy gaps and absorption edges of CrBr$_3$ and CrI$_3$ are found to be in the visible frequency range, which implies possible opt-electronic applications. Furthermore, SLCTs are found to possess a large magnetic moment of 3$μ_B$ per formula unit and a sizable magnetic anisotropy energy. The magnetic exchange constants of SLCTs are then extracted using the Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian and the microscopic origins of the various exchange interactions are analyzed. A competition between a near 90$^\circ$ FM superexchange and a direct antiferromagnetic (AFM) exchange results in a FM nearest-neighbour exchange interaction. The next and third nearest-neighbour exchange interactions are found to be FM and AFM respectively and this can be understood by the angle-dependent extended Cr-X-X-Cr superexchange interaction. Moreover, the Curie temperatures of SLCTs are also predicted using Monte Carlo simulations and the values can further increase by applying a biaxial tensile strain. The unique combination of robust intrinsic ferromagnetism, half semiconductivity and large magnetic anisotropy energies renders the SLCTs as promising candidates for next-generation semiconductor spintronic applications.
