On Trivial Cyclically Covering Subspaces of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ in Non-Coprime Characteristic

A subspace $U$ of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ is called \textit{cyclically covering} if the whole space $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ is the union of the cyclic shifts of $U$. The case $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ itself is the only covering subspace, is of particular interest. Recently, Huang solved this problem completely under the condition $\gcd(n, q)=1$ using primitive idempotents and trace functions, and explicitly posed the non-coprime case as an open question. This paper provides a complete answer to Huang's question. We prove that if $n = p^k m$ where $p = \operatorname{char}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ and $\gcd(m, p)=1$, then $h_q(p^k m) = 0$ if and only if $h_q(m) = 0$. This result fully reduces the non-coprime case to the coprime case settled by Huang. Our proof employs the structure theory of cyclic group algebras in modular characteristic.

Permutation trinomials over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$: a corrected version

Permutation polynomials are an interesting subject of mathematics and have applications in other areas of mathematics and engineering. In this paper, we determine all permutation trinomials over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ in Zieve's paper. We prove a conjecture proposed by Gupta and Sharma and obtain some new permutation trinomials over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$. Finally, we show that some classes of permutation trinomials with parameters are QM equivalent to some known permutation trinomials.

The matrix equation $aX^m+bY^n=cI$ over $M_2(\mathbb{Z})$

Let $\mathbb{N}$ be the set of all positive integers and let $a,\, b,\, c$ be nonzero integers such that $\gcd\left(a,\, b,\, c\right)=1$. In this paper, we prove the following three results: (1) the solvability of the matrix equation $aX^m+bY^n=cI,\,X,\,Y\in M_2(\mathbb{Z}),\, m,\, n\in\mathbb{N}$ can be reduced to the solvability of the corresponding Diophantine equation if $XY\neq YX$ and the solvability of the equation $ax^m+by^n=c,\, m,\, n\in\mathbb{N}$ in quadratic fields if $XY=YX$; (2) we determine all non-commutative solutions of the matrix equation $X^n+Y^n=c^nI,\,X,\,Y\in M_2(\mathbb{Z}),\,n\in\mathbb{N},\,n\geq3$, and the solvability of this matrix equation can be reduced to the solvability of the equation $x^n+y^n=c^n,\, n\in\mathbb{N},\,n\geq3$ in quadratic fields if $XY=YX$; (3) we determine all solutions of the matrix equation $aX^2+bY^2=cI,\,X,\,Y\in M_2(\mathbb{Z})$.

Nonsingular splittings over finite fields

We say that $M$ and $S$ form a \textsl{splitting} of $G$ if every nonzero element $g$ of $G$ has a unique representation of the form $g=ms$ with $m\in M$ and $s\in S$, while $0$ has no such representation. The splitting is called {\it nonsingular} if $\gcd(|G|, a) = 1$ for any $a\in M$. In this paper, we focus our study on nonsingular splittings of cyclic groups. We introduce a new notation --direct KM logarithm and we prove that if there is a prime $q$ such that $M$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_q$, then there are infinitely many primes $p$ such that $M$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_p$.

Purely singular splittings of cyclic groups

Let $G$ be a finite abelian group. We say that $M$ and $S$ form a \textsl{splitting} of $G$ if every nonzero element $g$ of $G$ has a unique representation of the form $g=ms$ with $m\in M$ and $s\in S$, while $0$ has no such representation. The splitting is called \textit{purely singular} if for each prime divisor $p$ of $|G|$, there is at least one element of $M$ is divisible by $p$. In this paper, we mainly study the purely singular splittings of cyclic groups. We first prove that if $k\ge3$ is a positive integer such that $[-k+1, \,k]^*$ splits a cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}_m$, then $m=2k$. Next, we have the following general result. Suppose $M=[-k_1, \,k_2]^*$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_{n(k_1+k_2)+1}$ with $1\leq k_1< k_2$. If $n\geq 2$, then $k_1\leq n-2$ and $k_2\leq 2n-5$. Applying this result, we prove that if $M=[-k_1, \,k_2]^*$ splits $\mathbb{Z}_m$ purely singularly, and either $(i)$ $\gcd(s, \,m)=1$ for all $s\in S$ or $(ii)$ $m=2^αp^β$ or $2^αp_1p_2$ with $α\geq 0$, $β\geq 1$ and $p$, $p_1$, $p_2$ odd primes, then $m=k_1+k_2+1$ or $k_1=0$ and $m=k_2+1$ or $2k_2+1$.

Five Constructions of Permutation Polynomials over $\gf(q^2)$

Four recursive constructions of permutation polynomials over $\gf(q^2)$ with those over $\gf(q)$ are developed and applied to a few famous classes of permutation polynomials. They produce infinitely many new permutation polynomials over $\gf(q^{2^\ell})$ for any positive integer $\ell$ with any given permutation polynomial over $\gf(q)$. A generic construction of permutation polynomials over $\gf(2^{2m})$ with o-polynomials over $\gf(2^m)$ is also presented, and a number of new classes of permutation polynomials over $\gf(2^{2m})$ are obtained.

On products of k atoms II

Let $H$ be a Krull monoid with class group $G$ such that every class contains a prime divisor (for example, rings of integers in algebraic number fields or holomorphy rings in algebraic function fields). For $k \in \mathbb N$, let $\mathcal U_k (H)$ denote the set of all $m \in \mathbb N$ with the following property: There exist atoms $u_1, ..., u_k, v_1, ..., v_m \in H$ such that $u_1 \cdot ... \cdot u_k = v_1 \cdot ...\cdot v_m$. Furthermore, let $λ_k (H) = \min \mathcal U_k (H)$ and $ρ_k (H) = \sup \mathcal U_k (H)$. The sets $\mathcal U_k (H) \subset \mathbb N$ are intervals which are finite if and only if $G$ is finite. Their minima $λ_k (H)$ can be expressed in terms of $ρ_k (H)$. The invariants $ρ_k (H)$ depend only on the class group $G$, and in the present paper they are studied with new methods from Additive Combinatorics.

Sharp upper and lower bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative irreducible matrix

In this paper, we obtain the sharp upper and lower bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative irreducible matrix. We also apply these bounds to various matrices associated with a graph or a digraph, obtain some new results or known results about various spectral radii, including the adjacency spectral radius, the signless Laplacian spectral radius, the distance spectral radius, the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of a graph or a digraph.

On the similarity of Tensors

Let $\mathbb{P}_n$ be the set of all matrices which have the same zero patterns with some permutation matrix of order $n$. In this paper, we prove the following result: Let $\mathbb{I}$ be the unit tensor of order $m\ge3$ and dimension $n\ge2$. Suppose that $P$ and $Q$ are two matrices with $P\mathbb{I}Q=\mathbb{I}$, then $P,Q\in \mathbb{P}_n$. This gives a characterization for the similarities of tensors with order $m\ge3$.

On the transcendence of some infinite sums

In this paper we investigate the infinite convergent sum $T=\sum_{n=0}^\infty\frac{P(n)}{Q(n)}$, where $P(x)\in\bar{\mathbb{Q}}[x]$, $Q(x)\in\mathbb{Q}[x]$ and $Q(x)$ has only simple rational zeros. N. Saradha and R. Tijdeman have obtained sufficient and necessary conditions for the transcendence of $T$ if the degree of $Q(x)$ is 3. In this paper we give sufficient and necessary conditions for the transcendence of $T$ if the degree of $Q(x)$ is 4 and $Q(x)$ is reduced.
