On Positive Geometries of Quartic Interactions II : Stokes polytopes, Lower Forms on Associahedra and Worldsheet Forms

In [1], two of the present authors along with P. Raman attempted to extend the Amplituhedron program for scalar field theories [2] to quartic scalar interactions. In this paper we develop various aspects of this proposal. Using recent seminal results in Representation theory [3,4], we show that projectivity of scattering forms and existence of kinematic space associahedron completely capture planar amplitudes of quartic interaction. We generalise the results of [1] and show that for any $n$-particle amplitude, the positive geometry associated to the projective scattering form is a convex realisation of Stokes polytope which can be naturally embedded inside one of the ABHY associahedra defined in [2,5]. For a special class of Stokes polytopes with hyper-cubic topology, we show that they have a canonical convex realisation in kinematic space as boundaries of kinematic space associahedra. We then use these kinematic space geometric constructions to write worldsheet forms for $ϕ^{4}$ theory which are forms of lower rank on the CHY moduli space. We argue that just as in the case of bi-adjoint $ϕ^3$ scalar amplitudes, scattering equations can be used as diffeomorphisms between certain $\frac{n-4}{2}$ forms on the worldsheet and $\frac{n-4}{2}$ forms on ABHY associahedron that generate quartic amplitudes.

Higher-point conformal blocks and entanglement entropy in heavy states

We consider conformal blocks of two heavy operators and an arbitrary number of light operators in a (1+1)-d CFT with large central charge. Using the monodromy method, these higher-point conformal blocks are shown to factorize into products of 4-point conformal blocks in the heavy-light limit for a class of OPE channels. This result is reproduced by considering suitable worldline configurations in the bulk conical defect geometry. We apply the CFT results to calculate the entanglement entropy of an arbitrary number of disjoint intervals for heavy states. The corresponding holographic entanglement entropy calculated via the minimal area prescription precisely matches these results from CFT. Along the way, we briefly illustrate the relation of these conformal blocks to Riemann surfaces and their associated moduli space.

Holographic Brownian motion at finite density

Brownian motion of a heavy charged particle at zero and small (but finite) temperature is studied in presence of finite density. We are primarily interested in the dynamics at (near) zero temperature which is holographically described by motion of a fundamental string in an (near-) extremal Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{\text{o}}$m black hole. We analytically compute the functional form of retarded Green's function for small frequencies and extract the dissipative behavior at and near zero temperature.

Zero Temperature Dissipation and Holography

We use holographic techniques to study the zero-temperature limit of dissipation for a Brownian particle moving in a strongly coupled CFT at finite temperature in various space-time dimensions. The dissipative term in the boundary theory for $ω\to 0$, $T \to 0$ with $ω/ T$ held small and fixed, does not match the same at $T=0$, $ω\to 0$. Thus the $T\to 0$ limit is not smooth for $ω< T$. This phenomenon appears to be related to a confinement-deconfinement phase transition at $T=0$ in the field theory.

Holographic Brownian Motion in 1+1 Dimensions

We study the motion of a stochastic string in the background of a BTZ black hole. In the 1+1 dimensional boundary theory this corresponds to a very heavy external particle (e.g, a quark), interacting with the fields of a CFT at finite temperature, and describing Brownian motion. The equations of motion for a string in the BTZ background can be solved exactly. Thus we can use holographic techniques to obtain the Schwinger-Keldysh Green function for the boundary theory for the force acting on the quark. We write down the generalized Langevin equation describing the motion of the external particle and calculate the drag and the thermal mass shift. Interestingly we obtain dissipation even at zero temperature for this 1+1 system. Even so, this does not violate boost (Lorentz) invariance because the drag force on a constant velocity quark continues to be zero. Furthermore since the Green function is exact, it is possible to write down an effective membrane action, and thus a Langevin equation, located at a "stretched horizon" at an arbitrary finite distance from the horizon.
