Beam-spin asymmetry Σ\boldsymbolΣ for Σ−Σ^- hyperon photoproduction off the neutron

We report a new measurement of the beam-spin asymmetry Σ\boldsymbolΣ for the γ⃗n→K+Σ−\vecγ n \rightarrow K^+Σ^- reaction using quasi-free neutrons in a liquid-deuterium target. The new dataset includes data at previously unmeasured photon energy and angular ranges, thereby providing new constraints on partial wave analyses used to extract properties of the excited nucleon states. The experimental data were obtained using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS), housed in Hall B of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). The CLAS detector measured reaction products from a liquid-deuterium target produced by an energy-tagged, linearly polarised photon beam with energies in the range 1.1 to 2.3 GeV. Predictions from an isobar model indicate strong sensitivity to N(1720)3/2+N(1720)3/2^+, Δ(1900)1/2−Δ(1900)1/2^-, and N(1895)1/2−N(1895)1/2^-, with the latter being a state not considered in previous photoproduction analyses. When our data are incorporated in the fits of partial-wave analyses, one observes significant changes in γγ-nn couplings of the resonances which have small branching ratios to the πNπN channel.

Photoproduction of KΛKΛ on the proton

Kaon photoproduction on the proton is studied in the resonance region using an isobar model. The higher-spin nucleon (3/2 and 5/2) and hyperon (3/2) resonances were included in the model utilizing the consistent formalism by Pascalutsa and they were found to play an important role in data description. The spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 hyperon resonances in combination with the Born terms contribute significantly to the background part of the amplitude. Various forms of the hadron form factor were considered in the construction and the dipole and multidipole forms were selected as those most suitable for the data description. Model parameters were fitted to new experimental data from CLAS, LEPS, and GRAAL collaborations and two versions of the model, BS1 and BS2, were chosen. Both models provide a good overall description of the data for the c.m. energies from the threshold up to 2.4 GeV. Predicted cross sections of the models at very small kaon angles being consistent with results of the Saclay-Lyon model indicate that the models could be also successful in predicting the hypernucleus production cross sections. Although kaon photoproduction takes place in the third-resonance region with many resonant states, the total number of included resonances, 15 and 16, is quite moderate and it is comparable with numbers of resonances in other models. The set of chosen nucleon resonances overlaps well with the set of the most probable contributing states determined in the Bayesian analysis with the Regge-plus-resonance model. Particularly, we confirm that the missing resonances P13(1900)P_{13}(1900) and D13(1875)D_{13}(1875) do play important role in the description of data. However, the spin-1/2 state P11(1880)P_{11}(1880) included in the Bayesian analysis was replaced in our analysis with the near-mass spin-5/2 state N∗(1860)N^*(1860), recently considered by the Particle Data Group.

Unified description of BaBar and Belle data on the bottomonia decays Upsilon(mS) -> Upsilon(nS) pi+ pi-

We present a unified analysis of the decays of bottomonia Upsilon(mS) -> Upsilon(nS) pi pi (m>n, m=2,3,4,5, n=1,2,3), charmonia J/psi -> phi (pi pi, K antiK), psi(2S) -> J/psi pi pi and the isoscalar S-wave processes pi pi -> pi pi, K antiK, eta eta. In this analysis we extend our recent study of low-lying (m=2,3) radial excitations of bottomonia to modes involving higher (m=4,5) excited states. Similarly as for the data on lower radial excitations, we confirm that the data for higher radially excited states from the BaBar and Belle collaborations can be described under conditions that the final bottomonium is a spectator and the multichannel pi pi scattering is considered in a model-independent approach based on analyticity, unitarity and the uniformization procedure. Indeed we show that the dipion mass distributions in the two-pion transitions of both charmonia and bottomonia states are explained by a unified mechanism based on the contribution of the pi pi and K antiK coupled channels including their interference (final-state interactions). Therefore, our main result is that the lower and higher radially excited states of charmonia and bottomonia have no specific features in mutual comparison and can be understood in a unified picture, e.g. proposed by our approach.

Masses and widths of scalar-isoscalar multi-channel resonances from data analysis

Peculiarities of obtaining parameters for broad multi-channel resonances from data are discussed analyzing the experimental data on processes ππ→ππ,KKˉππ\toππ,K\bar{K} in the IGJPC=0+0++I^GJ^{PC}=0^+0^{++} channel in a model-independent approach based on analyticity and unitarity and using an uniformization procedure. We show that it is possible to obtain a good description of the ππππ scattering data from the threshold to 1.89 GeV with parameters of resonances cited in the PDG tables as preferred. However, in this case, first, representation of the ππππ background is unsatisfactory; second, the data on the coupled process ππ→KKˉππ\to K\bar{K} are not well described even qualitatively above 1.15 GeV when using the resonance parameters from the only ππππ scattering analysis. The combined analysis of these coupled processes is needed, which is carried out satisfactorily. Then both above-indicated flaws, related to the analysis of solely the ππππ-scattering, are cured. The most remarkable change of parameters with respect to the values of only ππππ scattering analysis appears for the mass of the f0(600)f_0 (600) which is now in some accordance with the Weinberg prediction on the basis of mended symmetry and with an analysis using the large-NcN_c consistency conditions between the unitarization and resonance saturation. The obtained ππππ-scattering length a00a_0^0 in case when we restrict to the analysis of the ππππ scattering or consider so-called A-solution (with a lower mass and width of f0(600)f_0(600) meson) agrees well with prediction of chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and with data extracted at CERN by the NA48/2 Collaboration from the analysis of the Ke4K_{e4} decay and by the DIRAC Collaboration from the measurement of the π+π−π^+π^- lifetime.

Improvement of multichannel amplitudes for the pion-pion scattering using the dispersion relations

The multichannel S- and P-wave amplitudes for the pion-pion scattering, constructed requiring analyticity and unitarity of the S-matrix and using the uniformization procedure, are elaborated using the dispersion relations with imposed crossing symmetry condition. The amplitudes are modified in the low-energy region to improve their consistency with experimental data and the dispersion relations. Agreement with data is achieved for both amplitudes from the threshold up to 1.8 GeV and with dispersion relations up to 1.1 GeV. Consequences of the applied modifications, e.g. changes of the S-wave lowest-pole positions, are presented.

On nature of the scalar-isoscalar mesons in the uniformizing-variable method based on analyticity and unitarity

The experimental data on the processes ππ→ππ,KKˉ,ηη,ηη′ππ\toππ,K\bar{K},ηη,ηη^\prime in the IGJPC=0+0++I^GJ^{PC}=0^+0^{++} channel have been jointly analyzed to study the status and nature of the f0f_0. The method of analysis is based on analyticity and unitarity and uses an uniformization procedure. Some spectroscopic implications from results of the analysis are discussed.
