Long Range Outlook for Short-Range Correlations

Short range correlated (SRC) N N pairs are pairs of nucleons with high relative momentum (prel > kF where kF ~ 250 MeV/c is the Fermi momentum in medium to heavy nuclei) and lower center of mass momentum. The motivation for studying SRC pairs ranges from a desire to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the many-body nuclear wave-function at high-resolution to searching for explicit QCD-dynamics effects within the nuclear medium, not to mention connections to many other open problems in nuclear physics. Exploring short-range correlations was one of the physics motivations for building CEBAF (now Jefferson Lab). Scientists used the high luminosity and high energy of this cutting-edge machine to find kinematics that cleanly showed the signals of short-range correlations. This paved the way in the last two decades for tremendous progress understanding these correlations. This paper reviews recent progress and highlights outstanding questions and areas that need further study.

Probing millicharged particles with NA64$μ$ and LDMX

Millicharged particles emerge as compelling candidates in numerous theoretically well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model. These hypothetical particles, characterized by an electric charge that is a small fraction of the elementary charge, have attracted significant attention in contemporary experimental physics. Their potential existence motivates dedicated search strategies across multiple experimental platforms, leveraging their distinctive electromagnetic interactions while evading conventional detection methods. In the present paper we estimated the projected sensitivity of fixed-target experiments, specifically NA64$μ$ and LDMX, to the parameter space of millicharged particles. For the NA64$μ$ experiment, with an anticipated muon flux of $\mbox{MOT}\lesssim 10^{14}$, our analysis reveals a detectable mass window of $10~\mbox{MeV} \lesssim m_χ\lesssim 150~\mbox{MeV}$ and charge parameter range $10^{-4} \lesssim ε\lesssim 7\times 10^{-4}$. This sensitivity arises from the bremsstrahlung-like missing energy signature $μN \to μN γ^{*}( \to χ\barχ)$. Furthermore, we evaluate the discovery potential of the LDMX facility, considering its projected electron beam statistics, $\mbox{EOT}\lesssim 2\times 10^{16}$, and energy, $E_{\rm e}\simeq 8~\mbox{GeV}$. Our results demonstrate that LDMX can probe heavier MCPs in the mass range $250~\mbox{MeV} \lesssim m_χ\lesssim 400 ~\mbox{MeV}$, with sensitivities reaching $10^{-3} \lesssim ε\lesssim 1.5 \times 10^{-3}$. This parametric window can be accessible through the distinctive invisible decay channel $ρ\to χ\barχ$, where $ρ$-meson photo-production $γN \to N ρ$ plays a pivotal role.

Implication of the dark axion portal for the EDM of fermions and dark matter probing with NA64$e$, NA64$μ$, LDMX, $\mbox{M}^3$, and BaBar

The link between ordinary Standard model (SM) photon and both dark photon and axion like particle (ALP) can be introduced through the dark axion portal coupling. Given the dark axion portal setup, in the present paper we refer the dark photon as the mediator between SM and dark matter (DM) particles, implying that it decays predominantly into pair of DM fermions. Furthermore, we discuss in detail the implication of the dark axion portal scenario for the lepton (electron and muon) fixed target experiments. In particular, for the specific fixed target facility we study the missing energy signatures of the dark photon production followed by its invisible decay into stable DM particles. We investigated the potential to probe dark axion portal vertices with regarding signatures and derive the expected sensitivities of NA64$e$, NA64$μ$, LDMX and $\mbox{M}^3$. Moreover, we estimated the expected reach of NA64$e$ from the projected statistics of the $J/ψ$ vector meson invisible decays. We also recasted BaBar monophoton bounds for the specific dark axion portal scenario. In addition, we modified the dark axion portal setup by including in the model both the hadron and lepton specific ALP couplings. As the result, we obtain the bounds on the combination of fermion-specific couplings of ALP from the fixed target experiments. We discuss the implication of the modified dark axion portal scenario for the electric dipole moments (EDM) of SM fermions. In addition, we derived the novel constraints on the combination of the $CP$-violating neutron-specific ALP couplings from the existing bounds on neutron EDM by taking into account the neutron anomalous magnetic moment.

Predictions for the Sivers Single-Spin Asymmetry from Holographic QCD

A new approach to nonperturbative QCD, holographic light-front QCD, provides a comprehensive model for hadron dynamics and spectroscopy, incorporating color confinement, a universal hadron mass scale, the prediction of a massless pion in the chiral limit, and connections between the spectroscopy of mesons, baryons and tetraquarks across the full hadron spectrum. In this article we present predictions for the Sivers asymmetry and related transverse momentum distributions for the proton based on the light-front wavefunctions of the baryon eigenstate predicted by holographic QCD.

Deuteron EDM induced by CP violating couplings of pseudoscalar mesons

We analyze contributions to the electric dipole (EDM) and Schiff (SFM) moments of deuteron induced by the CP-violating three-pseudoscalar meson couplings using phenomenological Lagrangian approach involving nucleons and pseudoscalar mesons $P=π, K, η, η'$. Deuteron is considered as a proton-neutron bound state and its properties are defined by one- and two-body forces. One-body forces correspond to a picture there proton and neutron are quasi free constituents of deuteron and their contribution to the deuteron EDM (dEDM) is simply the sum of proton and neutron EDMs. Two-body forces in deuteron are induced by one-meson exchange between nucleons. They produce a contribution to the dEDM, which is estimated using corresponding potential approach. From numerical analysis of nucleon and deuteron EDMs we derive stringent limits on CP-violating hadronic couplings and $\barθ$ parameter. We showed that proposed measurements of proton and deuteron EDMs at level of $\sim 10^{-29}$ by the Store Ring EDM and JEDI Collaborations will provide more stringent upper limits on the CP violating parameters.

Electromagnetic properties of the nucleon and the Roper resonance in soft-wall AdS/QCD at finite temperature

We present a study of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors and of the Roper-nucleon transition at finite small temperature $T$, using an extended version of a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach developed by us previously. In the action we introduce the effective potential, which has quadratic dependence on the holographic coordinate $z$ and depends on both the gluon and quark condensates. Choosing the AdS geometry we restrict ourselves to the AdS Poincaré metric, because the contribution of the AdS-Schwarzschild geometry starts at next-to-leading order ${\cal O}(T^4)$. Hence, one can neglect the temperature dependence of the AdS geometry at small $T$. This is consistent with the Hawking-Page phase transition at a critical temperature representing the transition between thermal AdS/QCD and AdS-Schwarzschild geometry. In the small temperature regime we base our analysis on the temperature dependence of the effective potential, which starts at order ${\cal O}(T^2)$, due to the leading contribution from the quark condensate. As applications we present the analysis of properties of the nucleon and Roper resonance (masses, form factors, and helicity amplitudes) at low temperatures.

Scaling of PDFs, TMDs, and GPDs in soft-wall AdS/QCD

We explicitly demonstrate how to correctly define the hadronic parton distributions (PDFs, TMDs, and GPDs) in the soft-wall AdS/QCD approach, based on the use of a quadratic dilaton field, providing confinement and spontaneous breaking of conformal and chiral symmetries. The power behavior of parton distributions at large values of the light-cone variable is consistent with quark counting rules and Drell-Yan-West duality. All parton distributions are defined in terms of profile functions, which depend on the light-cone coordinate and are fixed from PDFs and electromagnetic form factors.

Towards the decay properties of deuteron-like state $d_{NΩ}$

Recent lattice QCD calculations showed that a $d_{NΩ}$ dibaryon state similar to the deuteron with small binding energy may exist. In this work we propose a hadronic molecular approach to study the dynamical properties of this exotic state. We use a phenomenological Lagrangian approach to describe the coupling of the $d_{NΩ}$ state to its constituents and the decays into conventional hadrons, $d_{NΩ} \to ΛΞ$ and $d_{NΩ} \to ΣΞ$. Predictions for the sum of the decay rates are in the range of a few hundred keV. In addition, we find that the $d_{NΩ} \to ΛΞ$ mode is dominant, preferably searched for in a future RHIC experiment.

Deuteron electromagnetic structure functions and polarization properties in soft-wall AdS/QCD

We apply a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach to the description of deuteron structure functions and tensor polarized properties. Present work is a completion of our previous study on electromagnetic form factors. By the appropriate choice of two couplings in the effective action we are able to reproduce both the form factors and structure functions in full consistency with model-independent constraints set by perturbative QCD. Our framework is based on a five-dimensional action in AdS space formulated in terms of vector fields dual to the deuteron and the electromagnetic fields. The AdS fields depend on four Minkowski and one holographic coordinate $z$. The scale dependence of the form factors and structure functions is consistent with quark counting rules implying the $1/Q^{10}$ behavior of the charge form factor $G_C(Q^2)$, structure functions $A(Q^2)$ and $B(Q^2)$, and the $1/Q^{12}$ behavior of the magnetic $G_M(Q^2)$ and quadrupole $G_Q(Q^2)$ form factors.

Four-quark structure of Zc(3900), Z(4430) and Xb(5568) states

We examine the four-quark structure of the recently discovered charged $Z_c(3900)$, $Z(4430)$, and $X_b(5568)$ states. We calculate the widths of the strong decays $Z_c^+ \to J/ψπ^+$ ($η_cρ^+$, $\bar D^0D^{\ast\,+}$, $\bar D^{\ast\,0}D^+$), $Z(4430)^+ \to J/ψπ^+$ ($ψ(2s) π^+$), and $X^+_b\to B_sπ^+$ within a covariant quark model previously developed by us. We find that the tetraquark-type current widely used in the literature for the $Z_c(3900)$ leads to a significant suppression of the $\bar D D^\ast$ and $\bar D^\ast D$ modes. Contrary to this a molecular-type current provides an enhancement by a factor of 6-7 for the $\bar D D^\ast$ modes compared with the $Z_c^+\to J/ψπ^+$, $η_cρ^+$ modes in agreement with recent experimental data from the BESIII Collaboration. In case of the $Z(4430)$ state we test a sensitivity of the ratio $R_Z$ of the $Z(4430)^+ \to ψ(2s) π^+$ and $Z(4430)^+ \to J/ψπ^+$ decay rates to a choice of the size parameter $Λ_{Z(4430)}$ of the $Z(4430)$. Using upper constraint for the sum of these two modes deduced from the LHCb Collaboration data we find that $R_Z$ varies from 4.64 to 4.08 when $Λ_{Z(4430)}$ changes from 2.2 to 3.2 GeV. Also we make the prediction for the $Z(4430)^+ \to D^{\ast\,+} \bar D^{\ast\,0}$ decay rate.

Isospin-violating strong decays of scalar single-heavy tetraquarks

We present a study of the isospin-violating one-pion strong decays of single heavy tetraquarks $X_Q = X(s q \bar q \bar Q)$, $Q=c, b$, and $q=u, d$ with spin-parity $J^P = 0^+$. We assume that the tetraquarks have the configuration of a color diquark and a antidiquark. Three mechanisms of isospin violation can contribute to the decay rate: (1) mixing of the $X(s u \bar u \bar Q)$ and $X(s d \bar d \bar Q)$ tetraquark currents, (2) an explicit $m_d-m_u$ quark mass difference in the quark diagrams describing the corresponding decay transitions and (3) $π^0-η$ mixing in the final state. Our main results are: (1) It is quite likely that the investigated tetraquark states are isosinglet states with a small admixture of an isotriplet component; (2) The first isospin-breaking mechanism affects the decay rater more significantly than the others; (3) Our calculations contain a size parameter $Λ_{X_Q}$, characterizing the distribution of the quarks in the tetraquark state $X_Q$. Absolute decay rates depend very much on the choice of $Λ_{X_Q}$, varied from 1 to 2 GeV, reflecting the compactness of the multiquark system.

Nonperturbative contribution to the strange-antistrange asymmetry of the nucleon sea

We give predictions for the nonperturbative (intrinsic) contribution to the $s(x) - \bar{s}(x)$ asymmetry of the nucleon sea. For this purpose we use different light-front wave functions inspired by the AdS/QCD formalism, together with a model of the nucleon in terms of meson-baryon fluctuations. The holographic wave functions for an arbitrary number of constituents, recently derived by us, give results quite close to known parametrizations that appear in the literature.

Nucleon tensor form factors in a relativistic confined quark model

We present results for the isotriplet and isosinglet tensor form factors of the nucleon in the relativistic confined quark model. The model allows us to calculate not only their normalizations at $Q^2=0$ and the related tensor charges, but also the full $Q^2$-dependence. Our results are compared to existing data and predictions of other theoretical approaches. We stress the importance of these form factors for the phenomenology of physics beyond the Standard Model.

QCD Compositeness as Revealed in Exclusive Vector Boson Reactions through Double-Photon Annihilation: $e^+ e^- \to γγ^\ast \to γV^0 $ and $e^+ e^- \to γ^\ast γ^\ast \to V^0 V^0$

We study the exclusive double-photon annihilation processes, $e^+ e^- \to γγ^\ast\to γV^0$ and $e^+ e^- \to γ^\ast γ^\ast \to V^0_a V^0_b,$ where the $V^0_i$ is a neutral vector meson produced in the forward kinematical region: $s \gg -t$ and $-t \gg Λ_{\rm QCD}^2$. We show how the differential cross sections $\frac{dσ}{dt}$, as predicted by QCD, have additional falloff in the momentum transfer squared $t$ due to the QCD compositeness of the hadrons, consistent with the leading-twist fixed-$θ_{\rm CM} $ scaling laws. However, even though they are exclusive channels and not associated with the conventional electron-positron annihilation process $e^+ e^- \to γ^\ast \to q \bar q,$ these total cross sections $σ(e^+ e^- \to γV^0) $ and $σ(e^+ e^- \to V^0_a V^0_b),$ integrated over the dominant forward- and backward-$θ_{\rm CM}$ angular domains, scale as $1/s$, and thus contribute to the leading-twist scaling behavior of the ratio $R_{e^+ e^-}$. We generalize these results to exclusive double-electroweak vector-boson annihilation processes accompanied by the forward production of hadrons, such as $e^+ e^- \to Z^0 V^0$ and $e^+ e^- \to W^-ρ^+$. These results can also be applied to the exclusive production of exotic hadrons such as tetraquarks, where the cross-section scaling behavior can reveal their multiquark nature.

Search for the glueball content of hadrons in gamma p interactions at GlueX

We suggest a theoretical framework for the description of double photon and proton-antiproton photoproduction off the proton gamma + p -> 2 gamma + p and gamma + p -> antip + p + p which takes into account the contribution of the scalar mesons f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1710). These scalars are considered as mixed states of a glueball and nonstrange and strange quarkonia. Our framework is based on the use of effective hadronic Lagrangians that phenomenologically take into account two-gluon exchange effects governing the gamma + p -> 2 gamma + p and gamma + p -> antip + p + p processes. Present results can be used to guide the possible search for these reactions by the GlueX Collaboration at JLab.

A facility to Search for Hidden Particles at the CERN SPS: the SHiP physics case

This paper describes the physics case for a new fixed target facility at CERN SPS. The SHiP (Search for Hidden Particles) experiment is intended to hunt for new physics in the largely unexplored domain of very weakly interacting particles with masses below the Fermi scale, inaccessible to the LHC experiments, and to study tau neutrino physics. The same proton beam setup can be used later to look for decays of tau-leptons with lepton flavour number non-conservation, $τ\to 3μ$ and to search for weakly-interacting sub-GeV dark matter candidates. We discuss the evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model and describe interactions between new particles and four different portals - scalars, vectors, fermions or axion-like particles. We discuss motivations for different models, manifesting themselves via these interactions, and how they can be probed with the SHiP experiment and present several case studies. The prospects to search for relatively light SUSY and composite particles at SHiP are also discussed. We demonstrate that the SHiP experiment has a unique potential to discover new physics and can directly probe a number of solutions of beyond the Standard Model puzzles, such as neutrino masses, baryon asymmetry of the Universe, dark matter, and inflation

Axions in gravity with torsion

We study a scenario allowing a solution of the strong charge parity problem via the Peccei-Quinn mechanism, implemented in gravity with torsion. In this framework there appears a torsion-related pseudoscalar field known as Kalb-Ramond axion. We compare it with the so-called Barbero-Immirzi axion recently proposed in the literature also in the context of the gravity with torsion. We show that they are equivalent from the viewpoint of the effective theory. The phenomenology of these torsion-descended axions is completely determined by the Planck scale without any additional model parameters. These axions are very light and very weakly interacting with ordinary matter. We briefly comment on their astrophysical and cosmological implications in view of the recent BICEP2 and Planck data.

Hyperon forward spin polarizability gamma0 in baryon chiral perturbation theory

We present the calculation of the hyperon forward spin polarizability gamma0 using manifestly Lorentz covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory including the intermediate contribution of the spin 3/2 states. As at the considered order the extraction of gamma0 is a pure prediction of chiral perturbation theory, the obtained values are a good test for this theory. After including explicitly the decuplet states, our SU(2) results have a very good agreement with the experimental data and we extend our framework to SU(3) to give predictions to the hyperons' gamma0 values. Prominent are the Sigma^- and Xi^- baryons as their photon transition to the decuplet is forbidden in SU(3) symmetry and therefore they are not sensitive to the explicit inclusion of the decuplet in the theory.

Nuclear physics in soft-wall AdS/QCD: Deuteron electromagnetic form factors

We present a high-quality description of the deuteron electromagnetic form factors in a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach. We first propose an effective action describing the dynamics of the deuteron in the presence of an external vector field. Based on this action the deuteron electromagnetic form factors are calculated, displaying the correct 1/Q^10 power scaling for large Q^2 values. This finding is consistent with quark counting rules and the earlier observation that this result holds in confining gauge/gravity duals. The Q^2 dependence of the deuteron form factors is defined by a single and universal scale parameter kappa, which is fixed from data.

Physical observables in the decay $Λ_b \to Λ_c (\to Λ+π)+τ^{-}+\bar ν_τ$

We analyze the tauonic semileptonic baryon decays $Λ^0_b \to Λ^+_c + τ^{-} +\bar ν_τ$ with particular emphasis on the lepton helicity flip contributions which vanish for zero lepton masses. We calculate the total rate, differential decay distributions, the longitudinal and transverse polarization components of the $Λ^+_c$ and the $τ^-$, and the lepton-side forward-backward asymmetries. We use the covariant confined quark model to provide numerical results on these observables.

Semileptonic decays $Λ_c^+ \to Λ\ell^+ ν_\ell\,\,(\ell=e,μ)$ in the covariant quark model and comparison with the new absolute branching fraction measurements of Belle and BESIII

We present precise theoretical predictions for the absolute branching fractions of $Λ_c^+ \to Λ\ell^+ ν_\ell\,(\ell=e,μ)$ decays in the covariant confined quark model. This study is motivated by two recent and accurate measurements of the absolute branching fractions of $Λ_c^+ \to p K^- π^+$ and $Λ_c^+ \to Λe^+ ν_e$ by the Belle Collaboration at the KEKB and by the BESIII Collaboration at the BEPCII. Our predictions for the branching fractions are consistent with both experimental results. We also provide detailed numerical results for differential decay distributions and polarization observables.

The semileptonic decay Lambda_b -> Lambda_c + tau(-) + antinu_tau in the covariant confined quark model

Recently there has been much interest in the tauonic semileptonic meson decays B -> D + tau + nu_tau and B -> D* + tau + nu_tau where one has found larger rates than what is predicted by the Standard Model. We analyze the corresponding semileptonic baryon decays Lambda_b(0) -> Lambda_c(+) + tau(-) + antinu_tau with particular emphasis on the lepton helicity flip and scalar contributions which vanish for zero lepton masses. We calculate the total rate, differential decay distributions, the longitudinal and transverse polarization of the daughter baryon Lambda_c(+) and the tau-lepton, and the lepton-side forward-backward asymmetries. The nonvanishing polarization of the daughter baryon Lambda_c(+) leads to hadron-side asymmetries in e.g. the decay Lambda_c(+) -> Lambda(0) + pi(+) and azimuthal correlations between the two final state decay planes which we specify. We provide numerical results on these observables using results of the covariant confined quark model. We find large lepton mass effects in the q2-spectra and in the polarization observables.

Towards an assessment of the ATLAS data on the branching ratio Gamma(Lambda_b(0) -> psi(2S) Lambda(0))/Gamma(Lambda_b(0) -> J/psi Lambda(0))

Recently the ATLAS Collaboration at CERN reported on the measurement of the branching ratio R(Lambda_b) = Gamma(Lambda_b(0) -> psi(2S) Lambda(0))/Gamma(Lambda_b(0) -> J/psi Lambda(0)). The measured branching ratio R(Lambda_b) = 0.501 pm 0.033$ (stat) pm 0.019 (syst) was found to be lower than the covariant quark model prediction of R(Lambda_b) = 0.8 pm 0.1 calculated by us recently. We present a detailed analysis of the branching ratio R(Lambda_b) using a model-independent framework for the heavy-to-light form factors based on results from our previos papers.

Unified description of BaBar and Belle data on the bottomonia decays Upsilon(mS) -> Upsilon(nS) pi+ pi-

We present a unified analysis of the decays of bottomonia Upsilon(mS) -> Upsilon(nS) pi pi (m>n, m=2,3,4,5, n=1,2,3), charmonia J/psi -> phi (pi pi, K antiK), psi(2S) -> J/psi pi pi and the isoscalar S-wave processes pi pi -> pi pi, K antiK, eta eta. In this analysis we extend our recent study of low-lying (m=2,3) radial excitations of bottomonia to modes involving higher (m=4,5) excited states. Similarly as for the data on lower radial excitations, we confirm that the data for higher radially excited states from the BaBar and Belle collaborations can be described under conditions that the final bottomonium is a spectator and the multichannel pi pi scattering is considered in a model-independent approach based on analyticity, unitarity and the uniformization procedure. Indeed we show that the dipion mass distributions in the two-pion transitions of both charmonia and bottomonia states are explained by a unified mechanism based on the contribution of the pi pi and K antiK coupled channels including their interference (final-state interactions). Therefore, our main result is that the lower and higher radially excited states of charmonia and bottomonia have no specific features in mutual comparison and can be understood in a unified picture, e.g. proposed by our approach.

Electromagnetic structure of the nucleon and the Roper resonance in a light-front quark approach

A relativistic light-front quark model is used to describe both the elastic nucleon and nucleon-Roper transition form factors in a large Q2 range, up to 35 GeV2 for the elastic and up to 12 GeV2 for the resonance case. Relativistic three-quark configurations satisfying the Pauli exclusion principle on the light-front are used for the derivation of the current matrix elements. The Roper resonance is considered as a mixed state of a three-quark core configuration and a molecular N+sigma hadron component. Based on this ansatz we obtain a realistic description of both processes, elastic and inelastic, and show that existing experimental data are indicative of a composite structure of the Roper resonance.

Masses and widths of scalar-isoscalar multi-channel resonances from data analysis

Peculiarities of obtaining parameters for broad multi-channel resonances from data are discussed analyzing the experimental data on processes $ππ\toππ,K\bar{K}$ in the $I^GJ^{PC}=0^+0^{++}$ channel in a model-independent approach based on analyticity and unitarity and using an uniformization procedure. We show that it is possible to obtain a good description of the $ππ$ scattering data from the threshold to 1.89 GeV with parameters of resonances cited in the PDG tables as preferred. However, in this case, first, representation of the $ππ$ background is unsatisfactory; second, the data on the coupled process $ππ\to K\bar{K}$ are not well described even qualitatively above 1.15 GeV when using the resonance parameters from the only $ππ$ scattering analysis. The combined analysis of these coupled processes is needed, which is carried out satisfactorily. Then both above-indicated flaws, related to the analysis of solely the $ππ$-scattering, are cured. The most remarkable change of parameters with respect to the values of only $ππ$ scattering analysis appears for the mass of the $f_0 (600)$ which is now in some accordance with the Weinberg prediction on the basis of mended symmetry and with an analysis using the large-$N_c$ consistency conditions between the unitarization and resonance saturation. The obtained $ππ$-scattering length $a_0^0$ in case when we restrict to the analysis of the $ππ$ scattering or consider so-called A-solution (with a lower mass and width of $f_0(600)$ meson) agrees well with prediction of chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and with data extracted at CERN by the NA48/2 Collaboration from the analysis of the $K_{e4}$ decay and by the DIRAC Collaboration from the measurement of the $π^+π^-$ lifetime.

On the meson mass spectrum in the covariant confined quark model

We provide a new insight into the problem of generating the hadron mass spectrum in the framework of the covariant confined quark model. One of the underlying principles of this model is the compositeness condition which means that the wave function renormalization constant of the elementary hadron is equal to zero. In particular, this equation allows to express the Yukawa coupling of the meson fields to the constituent quarks as a function of other model parameters. In addition to the compositeness condition we also employ a further equation which relates the meson mass function to the Fermi coupling. Both equations guarantee that the Yukawa-type theory is equivalent to the Fermi-type theory thereby providing an interpretation of the meson field as the bound state of its constituent fermions (quarks). We evaluate the Fermi-coupling as a function of meson (pseudoscalar and vector) masses and vary the values of the masses in such a way to obtain a smooth behavior for the resulting curve. The mass spectrum obtained in this manner is found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. We also compare the behavior of our Fermi-coupling with the strong QCD coupling alpha_s calculated in an QCD-inspired approach.

Radiative decay Y(4260) -> X(3872) + gamma involving hadronic molecular and charmonium components

We apply a phenomenological Lagrangian approach to the radiative decay Y(4260) -> X(3872) + gamma. Role of the hadron molecule Lambda_c(2940) in the p bar(p) -> p D0 bar(Lambda)_c(2286) annihilation reaction

The annihilation process p bar(p) -> p D0 bar(Lambda)_c(2286) is studied taking into account t-channel D0, D*0 meson exchange and the resonance contribution of Lambda_c(2286) and Lambda_c(2940) baryons. We assume that the Lambda_c(2940) baryon is a pD*0 molecular state with spin-parity (1/2)+ and (1/2)-. Our results show that near the threshold of p bar(p) -> Lambda_c(2286) bar(Lambda)_c(2286) the contribution from the intermediate state Lambda_c(2940) is also sizeable and can be observed at the PANDA experiment. Another conclusion is that the spin-parity assignment (1/2)- for Lambda_c(2940) gives enhancement for the cross section in comparison with a choice (1/2)+.

Selected strong decay modes of Y(4260)

In present work the Y(4260) resonance is considered as a weakly bound state of a pseudoscalar D and an axial D1 charm meson. Chiral Symmetry Breaking and Meson Wave Functions in Soft-Wall AdS/QCD

We consider mesons composed of light and heavy quarks and discuss the construction of the corresponding meson wave functions in soft-wall AdS/QCD. We specifically take care that constraints imposed by chiral symmetry breaking and by the heavy quark limit are fulfilled. The main results are: i) the wave functions of light mesons have a nontrivial dependence on the current quark mass, which gives rise to a mass spectrum consistent with the one including explicit breaking of chiral symmetry; ii) the wave functions of heavy-light mesons generate their correct mass spectrum, the mass splittings of vector and pseudoscalar states, and the correct scaling of leptonic decay constants f(Q \bar q) \sim 1/sqrt(mQ); iii) the wave functions of heavy quarkonia produce their correct mass spectrum and lead to a scaling behaviour of the leptonic decay constants f(Q \bar Q) \sim sqrt(mQ) and f(c \bar b) \sim mc/sqrt(mb) at mc << mb, consistent with potential models and QCD sum rules.

Light-front quark model consistent with Drell-Yan-West duality and quark counting rules

We propose a phenomenological light-front wave function for hadrons with arbitrary twist-dimension (mesons, baryons and multiquark states), which gives the correct scaling behavior of structure functions (parton distributions) and form factors for pions and nucleons. For other hadronic states the proposed wave function produces form factors consistent with quark counting rules, and gives predictions for structure functions (parton distributions). As an application we build a light-front quark model for nucleons based on the proposed wave function.

Limits on Lepton Flavor Violation from μ-e-conversion

We revisit the status of Lepton Flavor Violating (LFV) μe qq contact interactions from the view point of μ- e -conversion in nuclei. We consider their contribution to this LFV process via the two mechanisms on the hadronic level: direct nucleon and meson exchange ones. In the former case the quarks are embedded directly into the nucleons while in the latter in mesons which then interact with nucleons in a nucleus. We revise and in some cases reevaluate the hadronic parameters relevant for both mechanisms and calculate the contribution of the above mentioned contact interactions in coherent μ- e -conversion in various nuclei. Then we update the existing upper bounds and also derive new ones for the scales of the μe qq contact interactions from the experimental limits on the capture rates of μ- e -conversion. We compare these limits with the ones derived in the literature from other LFV processes and comment on the prospects of LHC searches related to the contact μe qq interactions.

Nucleon resonances in AdS/QCD

We describe the electroproduction of the N(1440) Roper resonance in soft-wall AdS/QCD. The Roper resonance is identified as the first radially excited state of the nucleon, where higher-Fock states in addition to the three-quark component are included. The main conclusion is that the leading 3q component plays the dominant role in the description of electroproduction properties of this resonance: form factors, helicity amplitudes and charge densities. The obtained results are in good agreement with the recent results of the CLAS Collaboration at JLab.

Polarization effects in the cascade decay Lambda_b -> Lambda(-> p pi-) + J/psi(-> l+ l-) in the covariant confined quark model

We calculate the invariant and helicity amplitudes for the nonleptonic decay Lambda_b -> Lambda + J/psi, psi(2S) in the covariant confined quark model. We discuss joint angular decay distributions in the cascade decay Lambda_b -> Lambda(-> p pi-) + J/psi, psi(2S) (-> l+ l-) and calculate some of the asymmetry parameters that characterize the joint angular decay distribution. We confirm expectations from the naive quark model that the transitions into the lambda_Lambda=1/2 helicity states of the daughter baryon Lambda are strongly suppressed leading to a near maximal negative polarization of the Lambda. For the same reason the azimuthal correlation between the two decay planes spanned by (p pi-) and (l+ l-) is negligibly small. We provide form factor results for the whole accessible q2-range. Our results are close to lattice results at minimum recoil and light-cone sum rule results at maximum recoil. A new feature of our analysis is that we include lepton mass effects in the calculation which allows us to also describe the cascade decay Lambda_b -> Lambda(-> p pi-) + psi(2S)(-> tau+ tau-).

Rare baryon decays Lambda_b -> Lambda l+ l- (l=e, mu, tau) and Lambda_b -> Lambda gamma : Differential and total rates, lepton- and hadron-side forward-backward asymmetries

Using the covariant constituent quark model previously developed by us we calculate the differential rate and the forward-backward asymmetries on the lepton and hadron side for the rare baryon decays Lambda_b -> Lambda l+ l- (l=e, mu, tau) and Lambda_b -> Lambda gamma. We use helicity methods to write down a three-fold joint angular decay distribution for the cascade decay Lambda_b -> Lambda (-> p pi-) + J_eff (-> l+ l-). Through appropriate angular integrations we obtain expressions for the rates, the lepton-side forward-backward (FB) asymmetry and the polarization of the daughter baryon Lambda leading to a hadron-side forward-backward asymmetry. We present numerical results on these observables using the covariant quark model and compare our results to the results of other calculations that have appeared in the literature.

Dilaton in a soft-wall holographic approach to mesons and baryons

We discuss a holographic soft-wall model developed for the description of mesons and baryons with adjustable quantum numbers n, J, L, S. This approach is based on an action which describes hadrons with broken conformal invariance and which incorporates confinement through the presence of a background dilaton field. We show that in the case of the bound-state problem (hadronic mass spectrum) two versions of the model with a positive and negative dilaton profile are equivalent to each other by a special transformation of the bulk field. We also comment on recent works which discuss the dilaton sign in the context of soft-wall approaches.

Light baryons and their electromagnetic interactions in the covariant constituent quark model

We extend the confined covariant constituent quark model that was previously developed by us for mesons to the baryon sector. In our numerical calculation we use the same values for the constituent quark masses and the infrared cutoff as have been previously used in the meson sector. In a first application we describe the static properties of the proton and neutron, and the $Λ$-hyperon (magnetic moments and charge radii) and the behavior of the nucleon form factors at low momentum transfers. We discuss in some detail the conservation of gauge invariance of the electromagnetic transition matrix elements in the presence of a nonlocal coupling of the baryons to the three constituent quark fields.

Nucleon structure including high Fock states in AdS/QCD

We present a detailed analysis of nucleon electromagnetic and axial form factors in a holographic soft-wall model. This approach is based on an action which describes hadrons with broken conformal invariance and incorporates confinement through the presence of a background dilaton field. For Nc=3 we describe the nucleon structure in a superposition of a three valence quark state with high Fock states including an adjustable number of partons (quarks, antiquarks and gluons) via studying the dynamics of 5D fermion fields of different scaling dimension in anti-de Sitter (ADS) space. According to the gauge/gravity duality the 5D fermion fields of different scaling dimension correspond to the Fock state components with a specific number of partons. In the present application we restrict to the contribution of 3, 4 and 5 parton components in the nucleon Fock state. With a minimal number of free parameters (dilaton scale parameter, mixing parameters of partial contributions of Fock states, coupling constants in the effective Lagrangian) we achieve a reasonable agreement with data for the nucleon form factors.

Electroproduction of the Roper resonance on the proton: the role of the three-quark core and the molecular N-sigma component

The Roper resonance is considered as a mixed state of a three-quark core configuration and a hadron molecular component N+sigma. Based on this ansatz we study electroproduction of the Roper resonance. The strong and electromagnetic couplings induced by the quark core are calculated in the 3P0 model. The contribution of the vector meson cloud to the electromagnetic transition is given in the framework of the VMD model. Results are compared with the recent JLab electroproduction data.

Hadronic and radiative three-body decays of J/psi involving the scalars f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1710)

We study the role of the scalar resonances f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1710) in the strong and radiative three-body decays of J/psi with J/psi to V + P P (gamma gamma) and J/psi to gamma + P P (V V), where P (V) denotes a pseudoscalar (vector) meson. We assume that the scalars result from a glueball-quarkonium mixing scheme while the dynamics of the transition process is described in an effective chiral Lagrangian approach. Present data on J/psi to V + P P are well reproduced, predictions for the radiative processes serve as further tests of this scenario.

New bounds on lepton flavor violating decays of vector mesons and the Z0 boson

We give an estimate for the upper bounds on rates of lepton flavor violating (LFV) decays M to mu(pm) + e(mp) of vector mesons M = rho0, omega, phi, J/psi, Upsilon and the Z0 boson in a model independent way, analyzing the corresponding lowest dimension effective operators. These operators also contribute to nuclear mu-e-conversion. Based on this observation and using the existing experimental limits on this LFV nuclear process, we show that the studied two-body LFV decays of vector bosons are strongly suppressed independent on the explicit realization of new physics. The upper limits on the rates of some of these decays are significantly more stringent than similar limits known in the literature. In view of these results experimental observation of the two-body LFV decays of vector bosons looks presently unrealistic.

phi-meson production in proton-antiproton annihilation

Apparent channel-dependent violations of the OZI rule in nucleon-antinucleon annihilation reactions are discussed in the presence of an intrinsic strangeness component in the nucleon. Admixture of strange-antistrange quark pairs in the nucleon wave function enables the direct coupling to the phi-meson in the annihilation channel without violating the OZI rule. Three forms are considered in this work for the strangeness content of the proton wave function, namely, the uud cluster with a strange-antistrange sea quark component, kaon-hyperon clusters based on a simple chiral quark model, and the pentaquark picture. Nonrelativistic quark model calculations reveal that the strangeness magnetic moment and the strangeness contribution to the proton spin from the first two models are consistent with recent experimental data. For the third model, the uuds subsystem with the configurations FS[31]F[211]S[22] and FS[31]F[31]S[22] leads to negative values for the strangeness magnetic moment and the strangeness contribution to the proton spin. With effective quark line diagrams incorporating the 3P0 quark model we give estimates for the branching ratios of the proton-antiproton annihilation reactions at rest to two mesons. Results for the branching ratios of phi-meson production from atomic proton-antiproton s-wave states are for the first and third model found to be strongly channel dependent, in good agreement with measured rates.

B_s(d) - bar B_s(d) mixing constraints on flavor changing decays of t and b quarks

We study those dimension 6 effective operators which generate flavor-changing quark-gluon transitions of the third generation quarks, with t -> g + u(c) and b -> g + d(s), and which could be of interest for LHC experiments. We analyze the contribution of these operators to B_s(d) - bar B_s(d) mixing and derive limits on the corresponding effective couplings from the existing experimental data. The Standard Model gauge invariance relates these couplings to the couplings controlling t -> g + u(c). On this basis we derive upper limits for the branching ratios of these processes. We further show that forthcoming LHC experiments might be able to probe the studied operators and the physics beyond the Standard Model related to them.

Hadron Molecules

We discuss a possible interpretation of the open charm mesons $D_{s0}^*(2317)$, $D_{s1}(2460)$ and the hidden charm mesons X(3872), Y(3940) and Y(4140) as hadron molecules. Using a phenomenological Lagrangian approach we review the strong and radiative decays of the $D_{s0}^* (2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ states. The X(3872) is assumed to consist dominantly of molecular hadronic components with an additional small admixture of a charmonium configuration. Determing the radiative ($γJ/ψ$ and $γψ(2s)$) and strong ($J/ψ2π$ and $ J/ψ3π$) decay modes we show that present experimental observation is consistent with the molecular structure assumption of the X(3872). Finally we give evidence for molecular interpretations of the Y(3940) and Y(4140) related to the observed strong decay modes $J/ψ+ ω$ or $J/ψ+ ϕ$, respectively.

Hidden-charm and radiative decays of the Z(4430) as a hadronic D_1 \bar{D^\ast} bound state

We study the $Z^\pm(4430)$ meson within a heavy hadron molecule interpretation where the $Z$ is considered as a bound state of a vector $D^\ast(2010)$ and an axial-vector $D_1(2420)$. We give predictions for the strong hidden-charm $Z^\pm(4430) \to π^\pm ψ$ and $π^\pmψ^\prime$ decay widths and also study the radiative $Z^\pm\;(J^P=1^-) \to π^\pmγ$ decay properties in a phenomenological Lagrangian approach. Our findings are qualitatively in line with the experimental observation that the $π^\pmψ^\prime$ transition dominates over the $π^\pmψ$ decay mode despite a smaller phase space. The width for the radiative mode $π^\pmγ$ is sizable, allowing possible detection in future experiments.

J/psi gamma and psi(2S) gamma decay modes of the X(3872)

The X(3872) with quantum numbers J(PC) = 1(++) is considered as a composite state containing both molecular hadronic and a c bar(c) component. Based on this structure assumption we first constrain model parameters in order to reproduce the predictions for the radiative decay widths of X(3872) to J/psi gamma and X(3872) to psi(2S) gamma as obtained in c bar(c) potential models. Depending on these predictions we find that further inclusion of the molecular component can in principle lead to an improved description of the radiative X(3872) decays. We also show that strong decay modes of the X(3872) and in particular the ratio of radiative (J/psi gamma) to strong (J/psi pi(+) pi(-)) decays hint towards a subleading role of the c bar(c) component in the X(3872).

Lepton flavor violating decays of vector mesons

We estimate the rates of lepton flavor violating decays of the vector mesons $ρ, ω, ϕ\to e μ$. The theoretical tools are based on an effective Lagrangian approach without referring to any specific realization of the physics beyond the standard model responsible for lepton flavor violation (\Lfv). The effective lepton-vector meson couplings are extracted from the existing experimental bounds on the nuclear $μ^--e^-$ conversion. In particular, we derive an upper limit for the \Lfv branching ratio ${\rm Br}(ϕ\to e μ) \leq1.3 \times 10^{-21}$ which is much more stringent than the recent experimental result ${\rm Br}(ϕ\to e μ) < 2 \times 10^{-6}$ presented by the SND Collaboration. Very tiny limits on \Lfv decays of vector mesons derived in this letter make direct experimental observation of these processes unrealistic.

Possible hadronic molecule structure of the Y(3940) and Y(4140)

In the present article we report on evidence for hadronic molecule structures in the charmonium sector. In particular we discuss the Y(3940) and the recently observed Y(4140) as heavy hadron molecule states with quantum numbers $J^{PC} = 0^{++}$ or $2^{++}$. The Y(3940) state is considered to be a superposition of $D^{\ast +}D^{\ast -}$ and $D^{\ast 0} \overline{D^{\ast 0}}$, while the Y(4140) is a bound state of $D_s^{\ast +}$ and $D_s^{\ast -}$ mesons. We give predictions for both the strong Y(3940) to J/psi omega, Y(4140) to J/psi phi and radiative Y(3940)/Y(4140) to gamma gamma decay widths in a phenomenological Lagrangian approach. The results for the strong hidden charm decay modes clearly support the molecular interpretation of the Y(3940) and Y(4140), while our estimates for the radiative decays provide a sensitive test for the underlying meson structure of the two Y mesons discussed here. The alternative assignment of $J^{PC} = 2^{++}$ is also tested, giving similar results for the strong decay widths.

Quasielastic rho0 electroproduction on the proton at intermediate energy: Role of scalar and pseudoscalar meson exchange

We present a detailed analysis of rho(0) electroproduction at intermediate energy for quasi-elastic knockout kinematics. The approach is based on an effective Lagrangian which generates exchanges of scalar, pseudoscalar, axial-vector and tensor mesons. The specific role of mesons with different values for J(PC) is analyzed. We show that the pi(0) exchange amplitude and its interference terms with eta(eta') and f1 exchanges dominate in the transverse part of the cross section sigmaT. The main role plays the pi(0) to rho(0) M1 spin transition when coupling the virtual photons to the nucleon. In contrast, the longitudinal cross section sigmaL is generated by a series of scalar meson exchanges. To extract the dominant term more detailed information on the inner structure of scalar mesons is required. It turns out that recent data of the CLAS Collaboration on sigmaL and sigmaT can be described with reasonable accuracy if one proposes the quarkonium structure for the heavy scalar mesons (M > 1.3 GeV). On this basis the differential cross sections dsigmaL/dt and dsigmaT/dt are calculated and compared with the latest CLAS data.

Relativistic constituent quark model with infrared confinement

We refine the relativistic constituent quark model developed in our previous papers to include the confinement of quarks. It is done, first, by introducing the scale integration in the space of alpha-parameters, and, second, by cutting this scale integration on the upper limit which corresponds to an infrared cutoff. In this manner one removes all possible thresholds presented in the initial quark diagram. The cutoff parameter is taken to be the same for all physical processes. We adjust other model parameters by fitting the calculated quantities of the basic physical processes to available experimental data. As an application, we calculate the electromagnetic form factors of the pion and the transition form factors of the omega and eta Dalitz decays.

X(3872) as a molecular DD* state in a potential model

We discuss the possibility that the X(3872) can be a hadronic DD* bound state in the framework of a potential model. The hadronic bound state configuration contains charged and neutral DD* components, while orbital S- and D-waves are included. Isospin symmetry breaking effects are fully taken into account. We show that binding in the DD* system with J(PC)=1(++) already exists for a reasonable value of the meson-exchange regularization parameter of Lambda around 1.2 GeV.
