Quantum corrections to the Relativistic mean-field theory

In this paper, we compare the RMF theory and the model of deformed oscillator shells (DOS) in description of the quantum properties of the bound states of the spherically symmetric light nuclei. We obtain an explicit analytical relation between differential equations for the RMF theory and DOS model, which determine wave functions for nucleons. On such a basis we perform analysis of correspondence of quantum properties of nuclei. We find: (1) Potential $V_{RMF}$ of the RMF theory for nucleons has the wave functions $f$ and $g$ with joint part $h$ coincident exactly with the nucleon wave function of DOS model with potential $V_{\rm shell}$. But, a difference between $V_{RMF}$ and $V_{\rm shell}$ is essential for any nucleus. (2) The nucleon wave functions and densities obtained by the DOS and RMF theories are essentially different. The nucleon densities of the RMF theory contradict to knowledge about distribution of the proton and neutron densities inside the nuclei obtained from experimental data. This indicates that $g$ and $f$ have no sense of the wave functions of quantum physics. But, $h$ provides proper description of quantum properties of nucleons inside the nucleus. (3) We calculate meson function $w^{0}$ and potential $V_{w}$ in RMF theory based on the found nucleon density. (4) $f$ and $g$ are not solutions of Dirac equation with $V_{w}$. If the meson theory describes quantum properties of nucleus well, then a difference between $V_{w}$ and $V_{RMF}$ should be as small as possible. We introduce new quantum corrections characterizing difference between these potentials. We find that (a) The function $w^{0}$ should be reinforced strongly, (b) The corrections are necessary to describe the quantum properties of the nuclei.

Study of compound nucleus formation via bremsstrahlung emission in proton $α$-particle scattering

In this paper a role of many-nucleon dynamics in formation of the compound $^{5}{\rm Li}$ nucleus in the scattering of protons off $α$-particles at the proton incident energies up to 20 MeV is investigated. We propose a bremsstrahlung model allowing to extract information about probabilities of formation of such nucleus on the basis of analysis of experimental cross-sections of the bremsstrahlung photons. In order to realize this approach, the model includes elements of microscopic theory and also probabilities of formation of the short-lived compound nucleus. Results of calculations of the bremsstrahlung spectra are in good agreement with the experimental cross-sections.

Can a many-nucleon structure be visible in bremsstrahlung emission during $α$ decay?

We analyze if the nucleon structure of the $α$ decaying nucleus can be visible in the experimental bremsstrahlung spectra of the emitted photons which accompany such a decay. We develop a new formalism of the bremsstrahlung model taking into account distribution of nucleons in the $α$ decaying nuclear system. We conclude the following: (1) After inclusion of the nucleon structure into the model the calculated bremsstrahlung spectrum is changed very slowly for a majority of the $α$ decaying nuclei. However, we have observed that visible changes really exist for the $^{106}{\rm Te}$ nucleus ($Q_α=4.29$ MeV, $T_{1/2}$=70 mks) even for the energy of the emitted photons up to 1 MeV. This nucleus is a good candidate for future experimental study of this task. (2) Inclusion of the nucleon structure into the model increases the bremsstrahlung probability of the emitted photons. (3) We find the following tendencies for obtaining the nuclei, which have bremsstrahlung spectra more sensitive to the nucleon structure: (a) direction to nuclei with smaller $Z$, (b) direction to nuclei with larger $Q_α$-values.

New approach to determine proton-nucleus interactions from experimental bremsstrahlung data

A new approach is presented to determine the proton-nucleus interactions from the analysis of the accompanying photon bremsstrahlung. We study the scattering of $p + ^{208}{\rm Pb}$ at the proton incident energies of 140 and 145~MeV, and the scattering of $p + ^{12}{\rm C}$, $p + ^{58}{\rm Ni}$, $p + ^{107}{\rm Ag}$ and $p + ^{197}{\rm Au}$ at the proton incident energy of 190~MeV. The model determines contributions of the coherent emission (formed by an interaction between the scattering proton and nucleus as a whole without the internal many-nucleon structure), incoherent emission (formed by interactions between the scattering proton and nucleus with the internal many-nucleon structure), and transition between them in dependence on the photon energy. The radius-parameter of the proton-nucleus potential for these reactions is extracted from the experimental bremsstrahlung data analysis. We explain the hump-shaped plateau in the intermediate- and high-energy regions of the spectra by the essential presence of the incoherent emission, while at low energies the coherent emission predominates which produces the logarithmic shape spectrum. We provide our predictions (in absolute scale) for the angular distribution of the bremsstrahlung photons in order to test our model, results and analysis in further experiments.

Quantum design using a multiple internal reflections method in a study of fusion processes in the capture of alpha-particles by nuclei

A high precision method to determine fusion in the capture of $α$-particles by nuclei is presented. For $α$-capture by $^{40}{\rm Ca}$ and $^{44}{\rm Ca}$, such an approach gives (1) the parameters of the $α$--nucleus potential and (2) fusion probabilities. This method found new parametrization and fusion probabilities and decreased the error by $41.72$ times for $α+ ^{40}{\rm Ca}$ and $34.06$ times for $α+ ^{44}{\rm Ca}$ in a description of experimental data in comparison with existing results. We show that the sharp angular momentum cutoff proposed by Glas and Mosel is a rough approximation, Wong's formula and the Hill-Wheeler approach determine the penetrability of the barrier without a correct consideration of the barrier shape, and the WKB approach gives reduced fusion probabilities. Based on our fusion probability formula, we explain the difference between experimental cross-sections for $α+ ^{40}{\rm Ca}$ and $α+ ^{44}{\rm Ca}$, which is connected with the theory of coexistence of the spherical and deformed shapes in the ground state for nuclei near the neutron magic shell $N=20$. To provide deeper insight into the physics of nuclei with the new magic number $N=26$, the cross-section for $α+ ^{46}{\rm Ca}$ is predicted for future experimental tests. The role of nuclear deformations in calculations of the fusion probabilities is analyzed.

Topology, and (in)stability of non-Abelian monopoles

The stability problem of non-Abelian monopoles with respect to "Brandt-Neri-Coleman type" variations reduces to that of a pure gauge theory on the two-sphere. Each topological sector admits exactly one stable monopole charge, and each unstable monopole admits $2\sum (2|q|-1)$ negative modes, where the sum goes over the negative eigenvalues $q$ of an operator related to the non-Abelian charge $Q$ of Goddard, Nuyts and Olive. An explicit construction for the [up-to-conjugation] unique stable charge, as well as the negative modes of the Hessian at any other charge is given. The relation to loops in the residual group is explained. From the global point of view, the instability is associated with energy-reducing two-spheres, which, consistently with the Morse theory, generate the homology of the configurations space, and whose tangent vectors at a critical point are negative modes. Our spheres might indicate possible decay routes of an unstable monopole as a cascade into lower lying critical points.

Dynamical horizon entropy and equilibrium thermodynamics of generalized gravity theories

We study the relation between the thermodynamics and field equations of generalized gravity theories on the dynamical trapping horizon with sphere symmetry. We assume the entropy of dynamical horizon as the Noether charge associated with the Kodama vector and point out that it satisfies the second law when a Gibbs equation holds. We generalize two kinds of Gibbs equations to Gauss-Bonnet gravity on any trapping horizon. Based on the quasi-local gravitational energy found recently for $f(R)$ gravity and scalar-tensor gravity in some special cases, we also build up the Gibbs equations, where the nonequilibrium entropy production, which is usually invoked to balance the energy conservation, is just absorbed into the modified Wald entropy in the FRW spacetime with slowly varying horizon. Moreover, the equilibrium thermodynamic identity remains valid for $f(R)$ gravity in a static spacetime. Our work provides an alternative treatment to reinterpret the nonequilibrium correction and supports the idea that the horizon thermodynamics is universal for generalized gravity theories.

Reconstructing the interaction between the dark matter and holographic dark energy

We reconstruct the interaction rate between the dark matter and the holographic dark energy with the parameterized equation of states and the future event horizon as the infrared cut-off length. It is shown that the observational constraints from the 192 SNIa and BAO measurement permit the negative interaction in the wide region. Moreover, the usual phenomenological descriptions can not describe the reconstructed interaction well for many cases. The other possible interaction is also discussed.

Angular Momentum of a Brane-world Model

In this paper we discuss the properties of the general covariant angular momentum of a five-dimensional brane-world model. Through calculating the total angular momentum of this model, we are able to analyze the properties of the total angular momentum in the inflationary RS model. We show that the space-like components of the total angular momentum of are all zero while the others are non-zero, which agrees with the results from ordinary RS model.

Cosmological equations and Thermodynamics on Apparent Horizon in Thick Braneworld

We derive the generalized Friedmann equation governing the cosmological evolution inside the thick brane model in the presence of two curvature correction terms: a four-dimensional scalar curvature from induced gravity on the brane, and a five-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet curvature term. We find two effective four-dimensional reductions of the Friedmann equation in some limits and demonstrate that they can be rewritten as the first law of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon of thick braneworld.
