Mixed Gaussian processes: A filtering approach

This paper presents a new approach to the analysis of mixed processes \[X_t=B_t+G_t,\qquad t\in[0,T],\] where $B_t$ is a Brownian motion and $G_t$ is an independent centered Gaussian process. We obtain a new canonical innovation representation of $X$, using linear filtering theory. When the kernel \[K(s,t)=\frac{\partial^2}{\partial s\,\partial t}\mathbb{E}G_tG_s,\qquad s\ne t\] has a weak singularity on the diagonal, our results generalize the classical innovation formulas beyond the square integrable setting. For kernels with stronger singularity, our approach is applicable to processes with additional "fractional" structure, including the mixed fractional Brownian motion from mathematical finance. We show how previously-known measure equivalence relations and semimartingale properties follow from our canonical representation in a unified way, and complement them with new formulas for Radon-Nikodym densities.

On nonlinear TAR processes and threshold estimation

We consider the problem of threshold estimation for autoregressive time series with a "space switching" in the situation, when the regression is nonlinear and the innovations have a smooth, possibly non Gaussian, probability density. Assuming that the unknown threshold parameter is sampled from a continuous positive density, we find the asymptotic distribution of the Bayes estimator. As usually in the singular estimation problems, the sequence of Bayes estimators is found to be asymptotically efficient, attaining the minimax risk lower bound.

The Euler-Maruyama approximation for the absorption time of the CEV diffusion

A standard convergence analysis of the simulation schemes for the hitting times of diffusions typically requires non-degeneracy of their coefficients on the boundary, which excludes the possibility of absorption. In this paper we consider the CEV diffusion from the mathematical finance and show how a weakly consistent approximation for the absorption time can be constructed, using the Euler-Maruyama scheme.

A complete solution to Blackwell's unique ergodicity problem for hidden Markov chains

We develop necessary and sufficient conditions for uniqueness of the invariant measure of the filtering process associated to an ergodic hidden Markov model in a finite or countable state space. These results provide a complete solution to a problem posed by Blackwell (1957), and subsume earlier partial results due to Kaijser, Kochman and Reeds. The proofs of our main results are based on the stability theory of nonlinear filters.
