A Nonlinear HP-Type Complementary Resistive Switch

Resistive Switching (RS) is the change in resistance of a dielectric under the influence of an external current or electric field. This change is non-volatile, and the basis of both the memristor and resistive random access memory. In the latter, high integration densities favor the anti-serial combination of two RS-elements to a single cell, termed the complementary resistive switch (CRS). Motivated by the irregular shape of the filament protruding into the device, we suggest a nonlinearity in the resistance-interpolation function, and thereby expand the original HP-memristor. We numerically simulate and analytically solve this model. Further, the nonlinearity allows for its application to the CRS.

Directed Transport of Confined Brownian Particles with Torque

We investigate the influence of an external magnetic field (torque) on the motion of Brownian particles confined in a channel geometry with varying width. Furthermore, the particles are driven by random fluctuations modeled by the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process (OUP) with given correlation time $τ_c$. The latter is implemented as both a thermal and a nonthermal process. In contrast to the thermal OUP for the nonthermal process directed transport emerges, i.e. our setup now realizes a ratchet mechanism: Due to the assumed thermodynamic nonequilibrium situation random fluctuations are rectified. The transport quantities of the system are studied in detail with respect to the correlation time, the torque and the channel geometry. Eventually, the mechanism of the symmetry breaking is elucidated.

Active motion assisted by correlated stochastic torques

The stochastic dynamics of an active particle undergoing a constant speed and additionally driven by an overall fluctuating torque is investigated. The random torque forces are expressed by a stochastic differential equation for the angular dynamics of the particle determining the orientation of motion. In addition to a constant torque, the particle is supplemented by random torques which are modeled as an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with given correlation time $τ_c$. These nonvanishing correlations cause a persistence of the particles' trajectories and a change of the effective spatial diffusion coefficient. We discuss the mean square displacement as a function of the correlation time and the noise intensity and detect a nonmonotonic dependence of the effective diffusion coefficient with respect to both correlation time and noise strength. A maximal diffusion behavior is obtained if the correlated angular noise straightens the curved trajectories, interrupted by small pirouettes, whereby the correlated noise amplifies a straightening of the curved trajectories caused by the constant torque.
