Comparison theorem for some extremal eigenvalue statistics

We introduce a method for the comparison of some extremal eigenvalue statistics of random matrices. For example, it allows one to compare the maximal eigenvalue gap in the bulk of two generalized Wigner ensembles, provided that the first four moments of their matrix entries match. As an application, we extend results of Bourgade--Ben Arous and Feng--Wei that identify the limit of the maximal eigenvalue gap in the bulk of the GUE to all complex Hermitian generalized Wigner matrices.

Universality of the least singular value for the sum of random matrices

We consider the least singular value of $M = R^* X T + U^* YV$, where $R,T,U,V$ are independent Haar-distributed unitary matrices and $X, Y$ are deterministic diagonal matrices. Under weak conditions on $X$ and $Y$, we show that the limiting distribution of the least singular value of $M$, suitably rescaled, is the same as the limiting distribution for the least singular value of a matrix of i.i.d. gaussian random variables. Our proof is based on the dynamical method used by Che and Landon to study the local spectral statistics of sums of Hermitian matrices.

Schatten-class Truncated Toeplitz Operators

We investigate truncated Toeplitz operators belonging to the Schatten ideals. We completely characterize such operators when they have an analytic symbol or belong to the ideal of Hilbert-Schmidt operators. We also study model spaces generated by Blaschke products associated with thin sequences, model spaces generated by certain types of singular inner functions, and operators associated with a class of very smooth symbols.
