Growth of Sibony metric and Bergman kernel for domains with low regularity

It is shown that even a weak multidimensional Suita conjecture fails for any bounded non-pseudoconvex domain with $\mathcal C^1$ boundary: the product of the Bergman kernel by the volume of the indicatrix of the Azukawa metric is not bounded below. This is obtained by finding a direction along which the Sibony metric tends to infinity as the base point tends to the boundary. The analogous statement fails for a Lipschitz boundary. For a general $\mathcal C^1$ boundary, we give estimates for the Sibony metric in terms of some directional distance functions. For bounded pseudoconvex domains, the Blocki-Zwonek Suita-type theorem implies growth to infinity of the Bergman kernel; the fact that the Bergman kernel grows as the square of the reciprocal of the distance to the boundary, proved by S. Fu in the $\mathcal C^2$ case, is extended to bounded pseudoconvex domains with Lipschitz boundaries.

Visibility of Kobayashi geodesics in convex domains and related properties

Let $D\subset \mathbb C^n$ be a bounded domain. A pair of distinct boundary points $\{p,q\}$ of $D$ has the visibility property provided there exist a compact subset $K_{p,q}\subset D$ and open neighborhoods $U_p$ of $p$ and $U_q$ of $q$, such that the real geodesics for the Kobayashi metric of $D$ which join points in $U_p$ and $U_q$ intersect $K_{p,q}$. Every Gromov hyperbolic convex domain enjoys the visibility property for any couple of boundary points. The Goldilocks domains introduced by Bharali and Zimmer and the log-type domains of Liu and Wang also enjoy the visibility property. In this paper we relate the growth of the Kobayashi distance near the boundary with visibility and provide new families of convex domains where that property holds. We use the same methods to provide refinements of localization results for the Kobayashi distance, and give a localized sufficient condition for visibility. We also exploit visibility to study the boundary behavior of biholomorphic maps.

An analogue of the squeezing function for projective maps

In the spirit of Kobayashi's applications of methods of invariant metrics to questions of projective geometry, we introduce a projective analogue of the complex squeezing function. Using Frankel's work, we prove that for convex domains it stays uniformly bounded from below. In the case of strongly convex domains, we show that it tends to 1 at the boundary. This is applied to get a new proof of a projective analogue of the Wong-Rosay theorem.

Gromov (non)hyperbolicity of certain domains in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$

We prove the non-hyperbolicity of the Kobayashi distance for $\mathcal{C}^{1,1}$-smooth convex domains in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$ which contain an analytic disc in the boundary or have a point of infinite type with rotation symmetry. Moreover, examples of smooth, non pseudoconvex, Gromov hyperbolic domains are given; we prove that the symmetrized polydisc and the tetrablock are not Gromov hyperbolic and write down some results about Gromov hyperbolicity of product spaces.

Interpolation and peak functions for the Nevanlinna and Smirnov classes

It is known (implicit in [HMNT]) that when $Λ$ is an interpolating sequence for the Nevanlinna or the Smirnov class then there exist functions $f_λ$ in these spaces, with uniform control of their growth and attaining values 1 on $λ$ and 0 in all other $λ'\neqλ$. We provide an example showing that, contrary to what happens in other algebras of holomorphic functions, the existence of such functions does not imply that $Λ$ is an interpolating sequence.

Green vs. Lempert functions: a minimal example

The Lempert function for a set of poles in a domain of $\mathbb C^n$ at a point $z$ is obtained by taking a certain infimum over all analytic disks going through the poles and the point $z$, and majorizes the corresponding multi-pole pluricomplex Green function. Coman proved that both coincide in the case of sets of two poles in the unit ball. We give an example of a set of three poles in the unit ball where this equality fails.

Limits of multipole pluricomplex Green functions

Let $S_ε$ be a set of $N$ points in a bounded hyperconvex domain in $C^n$, all tending to 0 as$ε$ tends to 0. To each set $S_ε$ we associate its vanishing ideal $I_ε$ and the pluricomplex Green function $G_ε$ with poles on the set. Suppose that, as $ε$ tends to 0, the vanishing ideals converge to $I$ (local uniform convergence, or equivalently convergence in the Douady space), and that $G_ε$ converges to $G$, locally uniformly away from the origin; then the length (i.e. codimension) of $I$ is equal to $N$ and $G \ge G_I$. If the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity of $I$ is strictly larger than $N$, then $G_ε$ cannot converge to $G_I$. Conversely, if the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity of $I$ is equal to $N$, (we say that $I$ is a complete intersection ideal), then $G_ε$ does converge to $G_I$. We work out the case of three poles; when the directions defined by any two of the three points converge to limits which don't all coincide, there is convergence, but $G > G_I$.

Green functions of the spectral ball and symmetrized polydisk

The Green function of the spectral ball is constant over the isospectral varieties, is never less than the pullback of its counterpart on the symmetrized polydisk, and is equal to it in the generic case where the pole is a cyclic (non-derogatory) matrix. When the pole is derogatory, the inequality is always strict, and the difference between the two functions depends on the order of nilpotence of the strictly upper triangular blocks that appear in the Jordan decomposition of the pole. In particular, the Green function of the spectral ball is not symmetric in its arguments. Additionally, some estimates are given for invariant functions in the symmetrized polydisc, e.g. (infinitesimal versions of) the Carathéodory distance and the Green function, that show that they are distinct in dimension greater or equal to $3$.

Harmonic and superharmonic majorants on the disk

We prove that a positive function on the unit disk admits a harmonic majorant if and only if a certain logarithmic Lipschitz upper envelope of it (relevant because of the Harnack inequality) admits a superharmonic majorant. We discuss the logarithmic Lipschitz regularity of this superharmonic majorant, and show that in general it cannot be better than that of the Poisson kernel. We provide examples to show that mere superharmonicity of the data does not help with the problem of existence of a harmonic majorant.

Finite interpolation with minimum uniform norm in C^n

Given a finite sequence $a:={a_1, ..., a_N}$ in a domain $Ω\subset C^n$, and complex scalars $v:={v_1, ..., v_N}$, consider the classical extremal problem of finding the smallest uniform norm of a holomorphic function verifying $f(a_j)=v_j$ for all $j$. We show that the modulus of the solutions to this problem must approach its least upper bound along a subset of the boundary of the domain large enough to contain the support of a measure whose hull contains a subset of the original $a$ large enough to force the same minimum norm. Furthermore, all the solutions must agree on a variety which also contains this hull. An example is given to show that the inclusions can be strict.

Interpolating sequences for weighted Bergman spaces of the ball

Let $B_α^{p}$ be the space of $f$ holomorphic in the unit ball of $\Bbb C^n$ such that $(1-|z|^2)^αf(z) \in L^p$, where $0<p\leq\infty$, $α\geq -1/p$ (weighted Bergman space). In this paper we study the interpolating sequences for various $B_α^{p}$. The limiting cases $α=-1/p$ and $p=\infty$ are respectively the Hardy spaces $H^p$ and $A^{-α}$, the holomorphic functions with polynomial growth of order $α$, which have generated particular interest. In §1 we first collect some definitions and well-known facts about weighted Bergman spaces and then introduce the natural interpolation problem, along with some basic properties. In §2 we describe in terms of $α$ and $p$ the inclusions between $B_α^{p}$ spaces, and in §3 we show that most of these inclusions also hold for the corresponding spaces of interpolating sequences. §4 is devoted to sufficient conditions for a sequence to be $B_α^{p}$-interpolating, expressed in the same terms as the conditions given in previous works of Thomas for the Hardy spaces and Massaneda for $A^{-α}$. In particular we show, under some restrictions on $α$ and $p$, that finite unions of $B_α^{p}$-interpolating sequences coincide with finite unions of separated sequences. In his article in Inventiones, Seip implicitly gives a characterization of interpolating sequences for all weighted Bergman spaces in the disk. We spell out the details for the reader's convenience in an appendix (§5).
