We show that the crystallographic braid group $B_n/[P_n,P_n]$ embeds naturally in the group of unrestricted virtual braids $UVB_n$, we give new proofs of known results about the torsion elements of $B_n/[P_n,P_n]$, and we characterise the torsion elements of $UVB_n$.
In this note, we adapt the procedure of the Long-Moody procedure to construct linear representations of welded braid groups. We exhibit the natural setting in this context and compute the first examples of representations we obtain thanks to this method. We take this way also the opportunity to review the few known linear representations of welded braid groups.
We show a simple and easily implementable solution to the word problem for virtual braid groups.
We consider the group of unrestricted virtual braids, describe its structure and explore its relations with fused links. Also, we define the groups of flat virtual braids and virtual Gauss braids and study some of their properties, in particular their linearity.
In this paper we study abelian and metabelian quotients of braid groups on oriented surfaces with boundary components. We provide group presentations and we prove rigidity results for these quotients arising from exact sequences related to (generalised) Fadell-Neuwirth fibrations.
We prove that the n th pure braid group of a nonorientable surface (closed or with boundary, but different from RP2) is residually 2-finite. Consequently, this group is residually nilpotent. The key ingredient in the closed case is the notion of p-almost direct product, which is a generalization of the notion of almost direct product. We prove therefore also some results on lower central series and augmentation ideals of p-almost direct products.
We define new notions of groups of virtual and welded knots (or links) and we study their relations with other invariants, in particular the Kauffman group of a virtual knot.
We consider exact sequences and lower central series of surface braid groups and we explain how they can prove to be useful for obtaining representations for surface braid groups. In particular, using a completely algebraic framework, we describe the notion of extension of a representation introduced and studied recently by An and Ko and independently by Blanchet.
In this paper we introduce the framed pure braid group on $n$ strands of an oriented surface, a topological generalisation of the pure braid group $P_n$. We give different equivalents definitions for framed pure braid groups and we study exact sequences relating these groups with other generalisations of $P_n$, usually called surface pure braid groups. The notion of surface framed braid groups is also introduced.
