Alignment dependence of photoelectron momentum distributions for diatomic molecules N$_2$ in strong elliptical laser fields

We study ionization dynamics of aligned diatomic molecules N$_2$ in strong elliptical laser fields experimentally and theoretically. The alignment dependence of photoelectron momentum distributions (PMDs) of N$_2$ measured in experiments is highlighted with comparing to Ar measured synchronously. Our results show that the PMDs of N$_2$ depend strongly on the alignment of the molecule, relative to the main axis of the laser ellipse. In particular, the most-probable electron-emission angle which is often used in attosecond measurement, differs remarkably when changing the molecular alignment. We show that the interplay of two-center interference and tunneling when the electron goes through the laser-Coulomb-formed barrier, plays an important role in these phenomena. Our work gives suggestions on studying ultrafast electron motion inside aligned molecules.

On-chip broadband non-reciprocal light storage

Breaking the symmetry between forward and backward propagating optical modes is of fundamental scientific interest and enables crucial functionalities, such as isolators, circulators, and duplex communication systems. Whereas there has been progress in achieving optical isolation on-chip, integrated broadband non-reciprocal signal processing functionalities that enable transmitting and receiving via the same low-loss planar waveguide, without altering the frequency or mode of the signal, remain elusive. Here, we demonstrate a non-reciprocal delay scheme based on the uni-directional transfer of optical data pulses to acoustic waves in a chip-based integration platform. We experimentally demonstrate that this scheme is not impacted by simultaneously counter-propagating optical signals. Furthermore, we achieve a bandwidth more than an order of magnitude broader than the intrinsic opto-acoustic linewidth, linear operation for a wide range of signal powers, and importantly, show that this scheme is wavelength preserving and avoids complicated multi-mode structures..

A tuple of multiplication operators defined by twisted holomorphic proper maps

This paper mainly concerns the von Neumann algebras induced by a tuple of multiplication operators on Bergman spaces which arise essentially from holomorphic proper maps over higher dimensional domains. We study the structures and abelian properties of the related von Neumann algebras, and in interesting cases they turns out to be tightly related to a Riemann manifold. There is a close interplay between operator theory, geometry and complex analysis. Many examples are presented.

Chalcogenide glass planar MIR couplers for future chip based Bracewell interferometers

Photonic integrated circuits are established as the technique of choice for a number of astronomical processing functions due to their compactness, high level of integration, low losses, and stability. Temperature control, mechanical vibration and acoustic noise become controllable for such a device enabling much more complex processing than can realistically be considered with bulk optics. To date the benefits have mainly been at wavelengths around 1550 nm but in the important Mid-Infrared region, standard photonic chips absorb light strongly. Chalcogenide glasses are well known for their transparency to beyond 10000 nm, and the first results from coupler devices intended for use in an interferometric nuller for exoplanetary observation in the Mid-Infrared L band (3800-4200 nm) are presented here showing that suitable performance can be obtained both theoretically and experimentally for the first fabricated devices operating at 4000 nm.
