A Lyman continuum analysis for $\sim 100$ galaxies at $z_{\text{spec}} \sim 3$ in the Abell 2744 Cluster Field

Identifying Lyman continuum (LyC) leakers at intermediate redshifts is crucial for understanding the properties of cosmic reionizers, as the opacity of the intergalactic medium (IGM) prevents direct detection of LyC emission from sources during the Epoch of Reionization (EoR). In this study, we confirm two new LyC candidate leakers at $z \sim 3$ in the Abell 2744 cluster field, with absolute escape fractions ($f_{\text{esc}}$) of $0.90^{+0.07}_{-0.86}$ and $0.60^{+0.37}_{-0.56}$, respectively. The LyC emission was detected using HST/WFC3/F275W and F336W imaging. These two candidate leakers appear faint ($ M_{\text{UV}} = -18.1 \pm 0.1 \text{ and } -17.81 \pm 0.11$), exhibit blue UV continuum slopes ($β= -2.42 \pm 0.05 \text{ and } -1.78 \pm 0.19$), have low masses ($M_\star \sim 10^{7.73} \pm 0.1 \text{ and } 10^{7.07} \pm 0.05 M_\odot$) and show \lya\ equivalent widths of $90 \pm 3$ Å and $28 \pm 12$ Å, respectively. The discovery of these two LyC candidate leakers was achieved in a catalog of 91 spectroscopically confirmed sources using JWST and/or MUSE public spectra. We also analyze properties that have been proposed as indirect indicators of LyC emission, like \lya, O32 ratio, and $M_\star$: we create subsample of galaxies selected according to such properties, stack the LyC observations of these subsample and assess the limits in escape fractions in the stacks. By analysing the individual candidates and the stacks, in the context of the currently limited sample of known LyC leakers at $z \sim 3$, we aim to enhance our understanding of LyC escape mechanisms and improve our predictions of the LyC $f_{\text{esc}}$ during the EoR.

Higher order heavy quark Green's functions in Coulomb gauge

The Dyson-Schwinger equation for the 4-point quark Green's functions is studied. In the limit of the heavy quark mass and with the truncation to include only the dressed two point functions for the Yang-Mills sector, we provide an exact solution for the 4-point quark Green's functions, in both quark-antiquark and diquark channels, and show that the corresponding poles relate to the bound state energy of the heavy quark systems. Moreover, a natural separation between physical and unphysical poles in the Green's functions emerges.

Coulomb gauge confinement in the heavy quark limit

The relationship between the nonperturbative Green's functions of Yang-Mills theory and the confinement potential is investigated. By rewriting the generating functional of quantum chromodynamics in terms of a heavy quark mass expansion in Coulomb gauge, restricting to leading order in this expansion and considering only the two-point functions of the Yang-Mills sector, the rainbow-ladder approximation to the gap and Bethe-Salpeter equations is shown to be exact in this case and an analytic, nonperturbative solution is presented. It is found that there is a direct connection between the string tension and the temporal gluon propagator. Further, it is shown that for the 4-point quark correlation functions, only confined bound states of color-singlet quark-antiquark (meson) and quark-quark (baryon) pairs exist.

The ghost propagator in Coulomb gauge

We present results for a numerical study of the ghost propagator in Coulomb gauge whereby lattice results for the spatial gluon propagator are used as input to solving the ghost Dyson-Schwinger equation. We show that in order to solve completely, the ghost equation must be supplemented by a boundary condition (the value of the inverse ghost propagator dressing function at zero momentum) which determines if the solution is critical (zero value for the boundary condition) or subcritical (finite value). The various solutions exhibit a characteristic behavior where all curves follow the same (critical) solution when going from high to low momenta until `forced' to freeze out in the infrared to the value of the boundary condition. The boundary condition can be interpreted in terms of the Gribov gauge-fixing ambiguity; we also demonstrate that this is not connected to the renormalization. Further, the connection to the temporal gluon propagator and the infrared slavery picture of confinement is discussed.

The quantum state vector in phase space and Gabor's windowed Fourier transform

Representations of quantum state vectors by complex phase space amplitudes, complementing the description of the density operator by the Wigner function, have been defined by applying the Weyl-Wigner transform to dyadic operators, linear in the state vector and anti-linear in a fixed `window state vector'. Here aspects of this construction are explored, with emphasis on the connection with Gabor's `windowed Fourier transform'. The amplitudes that arise for simple quantum states from various choices of window are presented as illustrations. Generalized Bargmann representations of the state vector appear as special cases, associated with Gaussian windows. For every choice of window, amplitudes lie in a corresponding linear subspace of square-integrable functions on phase space. A generalized Born interpretation of amplitudes is described, with both the Wigner function and a generalized Husimi function appearing as quantities linear in an amplitude and anti-linear in its complex conjugate. Schrödinger's time-dependent and time-independent equations are represented on phase space amplitudes, and their solutions described in simple cases.

Three-quark confinement potential from the Faddeev equation

In the heavy quark limit of Coulomb gauge QCD and by truncating the Yang-Mills sector to include only dressed two-point functions, an analytic nonperturbative solution to the Faddeev equation for three-quark bound states in the case of equal quark separations is presented. A direct connection between the temporal gluon propagator and the three-quark confinement potential is provided and it is shown that only color singlet qqq (baryon) states are physically allowed.

Probing Unquenching Effects in the Gluon Polarisation in Light Mesons

We introduce an extension to the ladder truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for mesons and the rainbow truncated quark Dyson-Schwinger equations which includes quark-loop corrections to the gluon propagator. This truncation scheme obeys the axialvector Ward-Takahashi identity relating the quark self-energy and the Bethe-Salpeter kernel. Two different approximations to the Yang-Mills sector are used as input: the first is a sophisticated truncation of the full Yang-Mills Dyson-Schwinger equations, the second is a phenomenologically motivated form. We find that the spectra and decay constants of pseudoscalar and vector mesons are overall described well for either approach. Meson mass results for charge eigenstate vector and pseudoscalar meson masses are compared to lattice data. The effects of unquenching the system are small but not negligible.

Bethe-Salpeter Meson Masses Beyond Ladder Approximation

The effect of quark-gluon vertex dressing on the ground state masses of the u/d-quark pseudoscalar, vector and axialvector mesons is considered with the Dyson-Schwinger equations. This extends the ladder-rainbow Bethe-Salpeter kernel to 2-loops. To render the calculations feasible for this exploratory study, we employ a simple infrared dominant model for the gluon exchange that implements the vertex dressing. The resulting model, involving two distinct representations of the effective gluon exchange kernel, preserves both the axial-vector Ward-Takahashi identity and charge conjugation symmetry. Numerical results confirm that the pseudoscalar meson retains its Goldstone boson character. The vector meson mass, already at a very acceptable value at ladder level, receives only 30 MeV of attraction from this vertex dressing. For the axial-vector states, which are about 300 MeV too low in ladder approximation, the results are mixed: the $1^{+-}$ state receives 290 MeV of repulsion, but the $1^{++}$ state is lowered further by 30 MeV. The exotic channels $0^{--}$ and $1^{-+}$ are found to have no states below 1.5 GeV in this model.
