Finite temperature contact for SU(2) fermions trapped in a 1D harmonic confinement

We calculate the finite-temperature Tan's contact for N SU(2) fermions, characterized by repulsive contact interaction, trapped in a 1D harmonic confinement within a local density approximation on top of a thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz. The Tan's contact for such a system, as in the homogeneous case, displays a minimum at a very low temperature. By means of an exact canonical ensemble calculation for two fermions, we provide an explicit formula for the contact at very low temperatures that reveals that the minimum is due to the mixing of states with different exchange symmetries. In the unitary regime, this symmetry blending corresponds to a maximal entanglement entropy.

A Metal-Insulator transition induced by Random Dipoles

We study the localization properties of a test dipole feeling the disordered potential induced by dipolar impurities trapped at random positions in an optical lattice. This random potential is marked by correlations which are a convolution of short-range and long-range ones. We show that when short-range correlations are dominant, extended states can appear in the spectrum. Introducing long-range correlations, the extended states, if any, are wiped out and localization is restored over the whole spectrum. Moreover, long-range correlations can either increase or decrease the localization length at the center of the band, which indicates a richer behavior than previously predicted.

Collective dynamics of fermion clouds in cigar-shaped traps

The propagation of zero sound in a spin-polarized Fermi gas under harmonic confinement is studied as a function of the mean-field interactions with a second Fermi gas. A local-density treatment is compared with the numerical solution of the Vlasov-Landau equations for the propagation of density distortions in a trapped two-component Fermi gas at temperature T=0.2 Tf. The response of the gas to the sudden creation of a sharp hole at its centre is also studied numerically.
