Entropy and complexity analysis of the D-dimensional rigid rotator and hyperspherical harmonics

In this paper we carry out an information-theoretic analysis of the $D$-dimensional rigid rotator by studying the entropy and complexity measures of its wavefunctions, which are controlled by the hyperspherical harmonics. These measures quantify single and two-fold facets of the rich intrinsic structure of the system which are manifest by the intricate and complex variety of D-dimensional geometries of the hyperspherical harmonics. We calculate the explicit expressions of the entropic moments and the Rényi entropies as well as the Fisher-Rényi, Fisher-Shannon and LMC complexities of the system. The explicit expression for the last two complexity measures is not yet possible, mainly because the logarithmic functional of the Shannon entropy has not yet been obtained up until now in a closed for

Quantum Entanglement in $(d-1)$-Spherium

There are very few systems of interacting particles (with continuous variables) for which the entanglement of the concomitant eigenfunctions can be computed in an exact, analytical way. Here we present analytical calculations of the amount of entanglement exhibited by $s$-states of \emph{spherium}. This is a system of two particles (electrons) interacting via a Coulomb potential and confined to a $(d-1)$-sphere (that is, to the surface of a $d$-dimensional ball). We investigate the dependence of entanglement on the radius $R$ of the system, on the spatial dimensionality $d$, and on energy. We find that entanglement increases monotonically with $R$, decreases with $d$, and also tends to increase with the energy of the eigenstates. These trends are discussed and compared with those observed in other two-electron atomic-like models where entanglement has been investigated.

Complexity analysis of hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials

The complexity measures of the Crámer-Rao, Fisher-Shannon and LMC (López-Ruiz, Mancini and Calvet) types of the Rakhmanov probability density $ρ_n(x)=ω(x) p_n^2(x)$ of the polynomials $p_n(x)$ orthogonal with respect to the weight function $ω(x)$, $x\in (a,b)$, are used to quantify various two-fold facets of the spreading of the Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi systems all over their corresponding orthogonality intervals in both analytical and computational ways. Their explicit (Crámer-Rao) and asymptotical (Fisher-Shannon, LMC) values are given for the three systems of orthogonal polynomials. Then, these complexity-type mathematical quantities are numerically examined in terms of the polynomial's degree $n$ and the parameters which characterize the weight function. Finally, several open problems about the generalised hypergeometric functions of Lauricella and Srivastava-Daoust types, as well as on the asymptotics of weighted $L_q$-norms of Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials are pointed out.

Entropy and complexity analysis of hydrogenic Rydberg atoms

The internal disorder of hydrogenic Rydberg atoms as contained in their position and momentum probability densities is examined by means of the following information-theoretic spreading quantities: the radial and logarithmic expectation values, the Shannon entropy and the Fisher information. As well, the complexity measures of Crámer-Rao, Fisher-Shannon and LMC types are investigated in both reciprocal spaces. The leading term of these quantities is rigorously calculated by use of the asymptotic properties of the concomitant entropic functionals of the Laguerre and Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomials which control the wavefunctions of the Rydberg states in both position and momentum spaces. The associated generalized Heisenberg-like, logarithmic and entropic uncertainty relations are also given. Finally, application to linear ($l=0$), circular ($l=n-1$) and quasicircular ($l=n-2$) states is explicitly done.

Quantum entanglement in exactly soluble atomic models: The Moshinsky model with three electrons, and with two electrons in a uniform magnetic field

We investigate the entanglement-related features of the eigenstates of two exactly soluble atomic models: a one-dimensional three-electron Moshinsky model, and a three-dimensional two-electron Moshinsky system in an external uniform magnetic field. We analytically compute the amount of entanglement exhibited by the wavefunctions corresponding to the ground, first and second excited states of the three-electron model. We found that the amount of entanglement of the system tends to increase with energy, and in the case of excited states we found a finite amount of entanglement in the limit of vanishing interaction. We also analyze the entanglement properties of the ground and first few excited states of the two-electron Moshinsky model in the presence of a magnetic field. The dependence of the eigenstates' entanglement on the energy, as well as its behaviour in the regime of vanishing interaction, are similar to those observed in the three-electron system. On the other hand, the entanglement exhibits a monotonically decreasing behavior with the strength of the external magnetic field. For strong magnetic fields the entanglement approaches a finite asymptotic value that depends on the interaction strength. For both systems studied here we consider a perturbative approach in order to shed some light on the entanglement's dependence on energy and also to clarify the finite entanglement exhibited by excited states in the limit of weak interactions. As far as we know, this is the first work that provides analytical and exact results for the entanglement properties of a three-electron model.

Direct spreading measures of Laguerre polynomials

The direct spreading measures of the Laguerre polynomials, which quantify the distribution of its Rakhmanov probability density along the positive real line in various complementary and qualitatively different ways, are investigated. These measures include the familiar root-mean-square or standard deviation and the information-theoretic lengths of Fisher, Renyi and Shannon types. The Fisher length is explicitly given. The Renyi length of order q (such that 2q is a natural number) is also found in terms of the polynomials parameters by means of two error-free computing approaches; one makes use of the Lauricella functions, which is based on the Srivastava-Niukkanen linearization relation of Laguerre polynomials, and another one which utilizes the multivariate Bell polynomials of Combinatorics. The Shannon length cannot be exactly calculated because of its logarithmic-functional form, but its asymptotics is provided and sharp bounds are obtained by use of an information-theoretic optimization procedure. Finally, all these spreading measures are mutually compared and computationally analyzed; in particular, it is found that the apparent quasi-linear relation between the Shannon length and the standard deviation becomes rigorously linear only asymptotically (i.e. for n>>1).

Jensen divergence based on Fisher's information

The measure of Jensen-Fisher divergence between probability distributions is introduced and its theoretical grounds set up. This quantity, in contrast to the remaining Jensen divergences, is very sensitive to the fluctuations of the probability distributions because it is controlled by the (local) Fisher information, which is a gradient functional of the distribution. So, it is appropriate and informative when studying the similarity of distributions, mainly for those having oscillatory character. The new Jensen-Fisher divergence shares with the Jensen-Shannon divergence the following properties: non-negativity, additivity when applied to an arbitrary number of probability densities, symmetry under exchange of these densities, vanishing if and only if all the densities are equal, and definiteness even when these densities present non-common zeros. Moreover, the Jensen-Fisher divergence is shown to be expressed in terms of the relative Fisher information as the Jensen-Shannon divergence does in terms of the Kullback-Leibler or relative Shannon entropy. Finally the Jensen-Shannon and Jensen-Fisher divergences are compared for the following three large, non-trivial and qualitatively different families of probability distributions: the sinusoidal, generalized gamma-like and Rakhmanov-Hermite distributions.
