Tunable mode entanglement: topological Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chain with an embedded Aharonov-Bohm quantum ring

We investigate a variant of the SSH model consisting of an SSH chain with an embedded Aharonov-Bohm quantum ring. The embedded ring gives rise to domain wall states whose energy levels are in the band gap. The dependence of some of the states on the ring's magnetic flux provides a mechanism to control the entanglement between the two SSH edge fermion modes. The concurrence between the edge modes depends periodically on the magnetic flux. In the deep topological zone, for appropriate values of the flux, the concurrence reaches the extreme values of $0$ and $1$, corresponding to vanishing entanglement and to maximum entanglement. Therefore, the QR-SSH system offers a tuning mechanism that can be used either as an entanglement modulator or as an entanglement switch.

Thermodynamic Equilibrium in General Relativity

The thermodynamic equilibrium condition for a static self-gravitating fluid in the Einstein theory is defined by the Tolman-Ehrenfest temperature law, $T{\sqrt {g_{00}(x^{i})}} = constant$, according to which the proper temperature depends explicitly on the position within the medium through the metric coefficient $g_{00}(x^{i})$. By assuming the validity of Tolman-Ehrenfest "pocket temperature", Klein also proved a similar relation for the chemical potential, namely, $μ{\sqrt {g_{00}(x^{i})}} = constant$. In this letter we prove that a more general relation uniting both quantities holds regardless of the equation of state satisfied by the medium, and that the original Tolman-Ehrenfest law form is valid only if the chemical potential vanishes identically. In the general case of equilibrium, the temperature and the chemical potential are intertwined in such a way that only a definite (position dependent) relation uniting both quantities is obeyed. As an illustration of these results, the temperature expressions for an isothermal gas (finite spherical distribution) and a neutron star are also determined.

Curl Forces and the Nonlinear Fokker-Planck Equation

Nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations endowed with curl drift forces are investigated. The conditions under which these evolution equations admit stationary solutions, which are $q$-exponentials of an appropriate potential function, are determined. It is proved that when these stationary solutions exist, the nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations satisfy an $H$-theorem in terms of a free-energy like quantity involving the $S_q$ entropy. A particular two dimensional model admitting analytical, time-dependent, $q$-Gaussian solutions is discussed in detail. This model describes a system of particles with short-range interactions, performing overdamped motion under drag effects, due to a rotating resisting medium. It is related to models that have been recently applied to the study of type-II superconductors. The relevance of the present developments to the study of complex systems in physics, astronomy, and biology, is discussed.

Generalized Nonlinear Proca Equation and its Free-Particle Solutions

We introduce a non-linear extension of Proca's field theory for massive vector (spin $1$) bosons. The associated relativistic nonlinear wave equation is related to recently advanced nonlinear extensions of the Schroedinger, Dirac, and Klein-Gordon equations inspired on the non-extensive generalized thermostatistics. This is a theoretical framework that has been applied in recent years to several problems in nuclear and particle physics, gravitational physics, and quantum field theory. The nonlinear Proca equation investigated here has a power-law nonlinearity characterized by a real parameter $q$ (formally corresponding to the Tsallis entropic parameter) in such a way that the standard linear Proca wave equation is recovered in the limit $q \rightarrow 1$. We derive the nonlinear Proca equation from a Lagrangian that, besides the usual vectorial field $Ψ^μ(\vec{x},t)$, involves an additional field $Φ^μ(\vec{x},t)$. We obtain exact time dependent soliton-like solutions for these fields having the form of a $q$-plane wave, and show that both field equations lead to the relativistic energy-momentum relation $E^{2} = p^{2}c^{2} + m^{2}c^{4}$ for all values of $q$. This suggests that the present nonlinear theory constitutes a new field theoretical representation of particle dynamics. In the limit of massless particles the present $q$-generalized Proca theory reduces to Maxwell electromagnetism, and the $q$-plane waves yield localized, transverse solutions of Maxwell equations. Physical consequences and possible applications are discussed.

Multipartite concurrence for identical-fermion systems

We study the problem of detecting multipartite entanglement among indistinguishable fermionic particles. A multipartite concurrence for pure states of $N$ identical fermions, each one having a $d$-dimensional single-particle Hilbert space, is introduced. Such entanglement measure, in particular, is optimized for maximally entangled states of three identical fermions that play a role analogous to the usual (qubit) Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state. In addition, it is shown that the fermionic multipartite concurrence can be expressed as the mean value of an observable, provided two copies of the composite state are available.

Dissipative Effects in Nonlinear Klein-Gordon Dynamics

We consider dissipation in a recently proposed nonlinear Klein-Gordon dynamics that admits soliton-like solutions of the power-law form $e_q^{i(kx-wt)}$, involving the $q$-exponential function naturally arising within the nonextensive thermostatistics [$e_q^z \equiv [1+(1-q)z]^{1/(1-q)}$, with $e_1^z=e^z$]. These basic solutions behave like free particles, complying, for all values of $q$, with the de Broglie-Einstein relations $p=\hbar k$, $E=\hbar ω$ and satisfying a dispersion law corresponding to the relativistic energy-momentum relation $E^2 = c^2p^2 + m^2c^4 $. The dissipative effects explored here are described by an evolution equation that can be regarded as a nonlinear version of the celebrated telegraphists equation, unifying within one single theoretical framework the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation, a nonlinear Schroedinger equation, and the power-law diffusion (porous media) equation. The associated dynamics exhibits physically appealing soliton-like traveling solutions of the $q$-plane wave form with a complex frequency $ω$ and a $q$-Gaussian square modulus profile.

Dynamics of entanglement in systems of identical fermions undergoing decoherence

Information that is stored in quantum-mechanical systems can be easily lost because of the interaction with the environment in a process known as decoherence. Possible physical implementations of many processes in quantum information theory involve systems of identical particles, whence comprehension of the dynamics of entanglement induced by decoherence processes in identical-particle open systems becomes relevant. Here we study the effects, and concomitant entanglement evolution, arising from the interaction between a system of two identical fermions and the environment, for two paradigmatic quantum channels. New entanglement measures are introduced to quantify the entanglement between the different parties, and a study of the dynamics of entanglement for some particular examples is carried out. Our analysis, which includes also the evolution of an entanglement indicator based on an entropic criteria, offers new insights into the dynamics of entanglement in open systems of identical particles, involving the emergence of multipartite genuine entanglement. The results improve our understanding of the phenomenon of decoherence and will provide new strategies to control it.

Quantum correlations from classically correlated states

Consider a bipartite quantum system with at least one of its two components being itself a composite system. By tracing over part of one (or both) of these two subsystems it is possible to obtain a reduced (separable) state that exhibits quantum correlations even if the original state of the full system is endowed only with classical correlations. This effect, first pointed out by Li and Luo in (2008), is of considerable interest because there is a growing body of evidence suggesting that quantum correlations in non-entangled, mixed states may constitute a useful resource to implement non trivial information related tasks. Here we conduct a systematic exploration of the aforementioned effect for particular families of states of quantum systems of low dimensionality (three qubits states). In order to assess the non-classicality of the correlations of the reduced states we use an indicator of quantum correlations based upon the state disturbances generated by the measurement of local observables. We show, for a three-qubit system, that there exists a relationship between the classical mutual information of the original classically correlated states and the maximum quantum correlation exhibited by the reduced states.

Quantum Entanglement in $(d-1)$-Spherium

There are very few systems of interacting particles (with continuous variables) for which the entanglement of the concomitant eigenfunctions can be computed in an exact, analytical way. Here we present analytical calculations of the amount of entanglement exhibited by $s$-states of \emph{spherium}. This is a system of two particles (electrons) interacting via a Coulomb potential and confined to a $(d-1)$-sphere (that is, to the surface of a $d$-dimensional ball). We investigate the dependence of entanglement on the radius $R$ of the system, on the spatial dimensionality $d$, and on energy. We find that entanglement increases monotonically with $R$, decreases with $d$, and also tends to increase with the energy of the eigenstates. These trends are discussed and compared with those observed in other two-electron atomic-like models where entanglement has been investigated.

Entanglement and the Born-Oppenheimer approximation in an exactly solvable quantum many-body system

We investigate the correlations between different bipartitions of an exactly solvable one-dimensional many-body Moshinsky model consisting of Nn "nuclei" and Ne "electrons". We study the dependence of entanglement on the inter-particle interaction strength, on the number of particles, and on the particle masses. Consistent with kinematic intuition, the entanglement between two subsystems vanishes when the subsystems have very different masses, while it attains its maximal value for subsystems of comparable mass. We show how this entanglement feature can be inferred by means of the Born-Oppenheimer Ansatz, whose validity and breakdown can be understood from a quantum information point of view.

New Solution of Diffusion-Advection Equation for Cosmic-Ray Transport Using Ultradistributions

In this paper we exactly solve the diffusion-advection equation for cosmic-ray transport. With this purpose we use the Theory of Ultradistributions of J. Sebastiao e Silva, to give a general solution for this equation. From this solution, we obtain several approximations as limiting cases of various situations of physical and astrophysical interest. One of them involves Solar cosmic-rays' diffusion.

A geometrical crossover in excited states of two-electron quantum dots in a magnetic field

We use the entanglement measure to study the evolution of quantum correlations in two-electron axially-symmetric parabolic quantum dots under a perpendicular magnetic field. We found that the entanglement indicates on the shape transition in the density distribution of two electrons in the lowest state with zero angular momentum projection at the specific value of the applied magnetic field.

A Family of Exact, Analytic Time Dependent Wave Packet Solutions to a Nonlinear Schroedinger Equation

We obtain time dependent $q$-Gaussian wave-packet solutions to a non linear Schrödinger equation recently advanced by Nobre, Rego-Montero and Tsallis (NRT) [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106 (2011) 10601]. The NRT non-linear equation admits plane wave-like solutions ($q$-plane waves) compatible with the celebrated de Broglie relations connecting wave number and frequency, respectively, with energy and momentum. The NRT equation, inspired in the $q$-generalized thermostatistical formalism, is characterized by a parameter $q$, and in the limit $q \to 1$ reduces to the standard, linear Schrödinger equation. The $q$-Gaussian solutions to the NRT equation investigated here admit as a particular instance the previously known $q$-plane wave solutions. The present work thus extends the range of possible processes yielded by the NRT dynamics that admit an analytical, exact treatment. In the $q \to 1$ limit the $q$-Gaussian solutions correspond to the Gaussian wave packet solutions to the free particle linear Schrödinger equation. In the present work we also show that there are other families of nonlinear Schrödinger-like equations, besides the NRT one, exhibiting a dynamics compatible with the de Broglie relations. Remarkably, however, the existence of time dependent Gaussian-like wave packet solutions is a unique feature of the NRT equation not shared by the aforementioned, more general, families of nonlinear evolution equations.

The Relationship Between Entanglement, Energy, and Level Degeneracy in Two-Electrons Systems

The entanglement properties of two-electron atomic systems have been the subject of considerable research activity in recent years. These studies are still somewhat fragmentary, focusing on numerical computations on particular states of systems such as Helium, or on analytical studies of model-systems such as the Moshinsky atom. Some general trends are beginning to emerge from these studies: the amount of entanglement tends to increase with energy and, in the case of excited states, entanglement does not necessarily tend to zero in the limit of vanishing interaction between the two constituting particles. A physical explanation of these properties, shared by the different two-electrons models investigated so far, is still lacking. As a first step towards this goal we perform here, via a perturbative approach, an analysis of entanglement in two-electrons models that sheds new light on the physical origin of the aforementioned features and on their universal character.

The workings of the Maximum Entropy Principle in collective human behavior

We exhibit compelling evidence regarding how well does the MaxEnt principle describe the rank-distribution of city-populations via an exhaustive study of the 50 Spanish provinces (more than 8000 cities) in a time-window of 15 years (1996-2010). We show that the dynamics that governs the population-growth is the deciding factor that originates the observed distributions. The connection between dynamics and distributions is unravelled via MaxEnt.

Typical behaviour of the global entanglement of an open multiqubit system in a non-markovian regimen

We investigate the decay of the global entanglement, due to decoherence, of multiqubit systems interacting with a reservoir in a non Markovian regime. We assume that during the decoherence process each qubit of the system interacts with its own, independent environment. Most previous works on this problem focused on particular initial states or families of initial states amenable of analytical treatment. Here we determine numerically the typical, average behaviour of the system corresponding to random initial pure states uniformly distributed (in the whole Hilbert space of $n$-qubit pure states) according to the Haar measure. We study systems consisting of 3, 4, 5, and 6 qubits. In each case we consider also the entanglement dynamics corresponding to important particular initial states, such as the GHZ states or multiqubit states maximizing the global entanglement, and determine in which cases any of these states is representative of the average behaviour associated with general initial states.

Direct Fisher inference of the quartic oscillator's eigenvalues

It is well known that a suggestive connection links Schrödinger's equation (SE) and the information-optimizing principle based on Fisher's information measure (FIM). It has been shown that this entails the existence of a Legendre transform structure underlying the SE. Such a structure leads to a first order partial differential equation (PDE) for the SE's eigenvalues from which a complete solution for them can be obtained. As an application we deal with the quantum theory of anharmonic oscillators, a long-standing problem that has received intense attention motivated by problems in quantum field theory and molecular physics. By appeal to the Cramer Rao bound we are able to Fisher-infer the particular PDE-solution that yields the eigenvalues without explicitly solving Schrödinger's equation. Remarkably enough, and in contrast with standard variational approaches, our present procedure does not involve free fitting parameters.

Entropic Entanglement Criteria for Fermion Systems

Entanglement criteria for general (pure or mixed) states of systems consisting of two identical fermions are introduced. These criteria are based on appropriate inequalities involving the entropy of the global density matrix describing the total system, on the one hand, and the entropy of the one particle reduced density matrix, on the other one. A majorization-related relation between these two density matrices is obtained, leading to a family of entanglement criteria based on Rényi's entropic measure. These criteria are applied to various illustrative examples of parametrized families of mixed states. The dependence of the entanglement detection efficiency on Rényi's entropic parameter is investigated. The extension of these criteria to systems of $N$ identical fermions is also considered.

Inferring an optimal Fisher measure

It is well known that a suggestive relation exists that links Schrödinger's equation (SE) to the information-optimizing principle based on Fisher's information measure (FIM). We explore here an approach that will allow one to infer the optimal FIM compatible with a given amount of prior information without explicitly solving first the associated SE. This technique is based on the virial theorem and it provides analytic solutions for the physically relevant FIM, that which is minimal subject to the constraints posed by the prior information.

Legendre-transform structure derived from quantum theorems

By recourse to i) the Hellmann-Feynman theorem and ii) the Virial one, the information-optimizing principle based on Fisher's information measure uncovers a Legendre-transform structure associated with Schrödinger's equation, in close analogy with the structure that lies behind the standard thermodynamical formalism. The present developments provide new evidence for the information theoretical links based on Fisher's measure that exist between Schrödinger's equation, on the one hand, and thermodynamics/thermostatistics on the other one.

New features of quantum discord uncovered by q-entropies

The notion of quantum discord introduced by Ollivier and Zurek [Phys. Rev. Lett 88, 017901 (2001)] (see also Henderson and Vedral [J. Phys. A 34, 6899 (2001)]) has attracted increasing attention, in recent years, as an entropic quantifier of non-classical features pertaining to the correlations exhibited by bipartite quantum systems. Here we generalize the notion so as to encompass power-law q-entropies (that reduce to the standard Shannon entropy in the limit $q \to 1$) and study the concomitant consequences. The ensuing, new discord-like measures we advance describe aspects of non-classicality that are different from those associated with the standard quantum discord. A particular manifestation of this difference concerns a feature related to order. Let $D_1$ stand for the standard, Shannon-based discord measure and $D_q$ for the $q \ne 1$ one. If two quantum states $A$, $B$ are such that $D_1(A) > D_1(B)$, this order-relation does not remain invariant under a change from $D_1$ to $D_q$.

Parameter-free ansatz for inferring ground state wave functions of even potentials

Schrödinger's equation (SE) and the information-optimizing principle based on Fisher's information measure (FIM) are intimately linked, which entails the existence of a Legendre transform structure underlying the SE. In this comunication we show that the existence of such an structure allows, via the virial theorem, for the formulation of a parameter-free ground state's SE-ansatz for a rather large family of potentials. The parameter-free nature of the ansatz derives from the structural information it incorporates through its Legendre properties.

Properties of a geometric measure for quantum discord

We discuss some properties of the quantum discord based on the geometric distance advanced by Dakic, Vedral, and Brukner [Phys. Rev. We explore the dependence of quantum discord on the degree of mixedness of the bipartite states, and also its connection with non-locality as measured by the maximum violation of a Bell inequality within the CHSH scenario.

Quantum entanglement in exactly soluble atomic models: The Moshinsky model with three electrons, and with two electrons in a uniform magnetic field

We investigate the entanglement-related features of the eigenstates of two exactly soluble atomic models: a one-dimensional three-electron Moshinsky model, and a three-dimensional two-electron Moshinsky system in an external uniform magnetic field. We analytically compute the amount of entanglement exhibited by the wavefunctions corresponding to the ground, first and second excited states of the three-electron model. We found that the amount of entanglement of the system tends to increase with energy, and in the case of excited states we found a finite amount of entanglement in the limit of vanishing interaction. We also analyze the entanglement properties of the ground and first few excited states of the two-electron Moshinsky model in the presence of a magnetic field. The dependence of the eigenstates' entanglement on the energy, as well as its behaviour in the regime of vanishing interaction, are similar to those observed in the three-electron system. On the other hand, the entanglement exhibits a monotonically decreasing behavior with the strength of the external magnetic field. For strong magnetic fields the entanglement approaches a finite asymptotic value that depends on the interaction strength. For both systems studied here we consider a perturbative approach in order to shed some light on the entanglement's dependence on energy and also to clarify the finite entanglement exhibited by excited states in the limit of weak interactions. As far as we know, this is the first work that provides analytical and exact results for the entanglement properties of a three-electron model.

Special features of the relation between Fisher Information and Schrödinger eigenvalue equation

It is well known that a suggestive relation exists that links Schrödinger's equation (SE) to the information-optimizing principle based on Fisher's information measure (FIM). The connection entails the existence of a Legendre transform structure underlying the SE. Here we show that appeal to this structure leads to a first order differential equation for the SE's eigenvalues that, in certain cases, can be used to obtain the eigenvalues without explicitly solving SE. Complying with the above mentioned equation constitutes a necessary condition to be satisfied by an energy eigenvalue. We show that the general solution is unique.

Entropic Upper Bound on Gravitational Binding Energy

We prove that the gravitational binding energy Ω of a self gravitating system described by a mass density distribution ρ(x) admits an upper bound B[ρ(x)] given by a simple function of an appropriate, non-additive Tsallis' power-law entropic functional Sq evaluated on the density ρ. The density distributions that saturate the entropic bound have the form of isotropic q-Gaussian distributions. These maximizer distributions correspond to the Plummer density profile, well known in astrophysics. A heuristic scaling argument is advanced suggesting that the entropic bound B[ρ(x)] is unique, in the sense that it is unlikely that exhaustive entropic upper bounds not based on the alluded Sq entropic measure exit. The present findings provide a new link between the physics of self gravitating systems, on the one hand, and the statistical formalism associated with non-additive, power-law entropic measures, on the other hand.

Generalized Cramer-Rao relations for non-relativistic quantum systems

The Cramer-Rao product of the Fisher information and the variance of a probability density ρ(x), defined on a domain Δ\in R^D, is found to have a minimum value reached by the density associated with the ground state of the harmonic oscillator in Δ, when Δis an unbounded domain. If Δis bounded, the minimum value of the Fisher information is achieved by the ground state of the quantum box described itself by this domain.

Quantum Potentials with q-Gaussian Ground States

We determine families of spherically symmetrical $D$-dimensional quantum potential functions $V(r)$ having ground state wavefunctions that exhibit, either in configuration or in momentum space, the form of an isotropic $q$-Gaussian. These wavefunctions admit a maximum entropy description in terms of $S_q$ power-law entropies. We show that the potentials with a ground state of the $q$-Gaussian form in momentum space admit the Coulomb potential $-1/r$ as a particular instance. Furthermore, all these potentials behave asymptotically as the Coulomb potential for large $r$for all values of the parameter $q$ such that $0<q<1.$

Separability Criteria and Entanglement Measures for Pure States of N Identical Fermions

The study of the entanglement properties of systems of N fermions has attracted considerable interest during the last few years. Various separability criteria for pure states of N identical fermions have been recently discussed but, excepting the case of two-fermions systems, these criteria are difficult to implement and of limited value from the practical point of view. Here we advance simple necessary and sufficient separability criteria for pure states of N identical fermions. We found that to be identified as separable a state has to comply with one single identity involving either the purity or the von Neumann entropy of the single-particle reduced density matrix. These criteria, based on the verification of only one identity, are drastically simpler than the criteria discussed in the recent literature. We also derive two inequalities verified respectively by the purity and the entropy of the single particle, reduced density matrix, that lead to natural entanglement measures for N-fermion pure states. Our present considerations are related to some classical results from the Hartree-Fock theory, which are here discussed from a different point of view in order to clarify some important points concerning the separability of fermionic pure states.

Some features of the state-space trajectories followed by robust entangled four-qubit states during decoherence

In a recent work (Borras et al., Phys. Rev. Here we explore some geometrical features of the trajectories in state space generated by the decoherence process, connecting the initially robust pure state with the completely decohered mixed state obtained at the end of the evolution. We characterize these trajectories by recourse to the distance between the concomitant time dependent mixed state and different reference states.

Entanglement and the Quantum Brachistochrone Problem

Entanglement is closely related to some fundamental features of the dynamics of composite quantum systems: quantum entanglement enhances the "speed" of evolution of certain quantum states, as measured by the time required to reach an orthogonal state. The concept of "speed" of quantum evolution constitutes an important ingredient in any attempt to determine the fundamental limits that basic physical laws impose on how fast a physical system can process or transmit information. Here we explore the relationship between entanglement and the speed of quantum evolution in the context of the quantum brachistochrone problem. Given an initial and a final state of a composite system we consider the amount of entanglement associated with the brachistochrone evolution between those states, showing that entanglement is an essential resource to achieve the alluded time-optimal quantum evolution.

Entanglement Distribution and Entangling Power of Quantum Gates

Quantum gates, that play a fundamental role in quantum computation and other quantum information processes, are unitary evolution operators $\hat U$ that act on a composite system changing its entanglement. In the present contribution we study some aspects of these entanglement changes. By recourse of a Monte Carlo procedure, we compute the so called "entangling power" for several paradigmatic quantum gates and discuss results concerning the action of the CNOT gate. We pay special attention to the distribution of entanglement among the several parties involved.

Understanding Quantum Entanglement: Qubits, Rebits and the Quaternionic Approach

It has been recently pointed out by Caves, Fuchs, and Rungta that real quantum mechanics (that is, quantum mechanics defined over real vector spaces provides an interesting foil theory whose study may shed some light on just which particular aspects of quantum entanglement are unique to standard quantum theory, and which ones are more generic over other physical theories endowed with this phenomenon. Following this work, we discuss some entanglement properties of two-rebits systems, making a comparison with the basic properties of two-qubits systems, i.e., the ones described by standard complex quantum mechanics. Fisher information and thermodynamics' 1st. law

It was recently shown, starting from first principles, that thermodynamics' first law (TFL) can be microscopically obtained without need of invoking the adiabatic theorem (AT) [Physica A, {\bf 356}, 167 (2005)]. We show here that a TFL can also be found for Fisher's information measure, following a similar procedure. Further, it is proved that enforcing the Fisher-first law requirements in a process in which the probability distribution is infinitesimally varied is equivalent to minimizing Fisher's information measure subject to appropriate constraints.

On the Connection Between Entanglement and the Speed of Quantum Evolution

It has been recently pointed out [V. Giovanetti, S. Lloyd, and L. Maccone, Europhys. Lett., {\bf 62} pp. 615-621 (2003)] that, for certain classes of states, quantum entanglement enhances the "speed" of evolution of composite quantum systems, as measured by the time a given initial state requires to evolve to an orthogonal state. We provide here a systematic study of this effect for pure states of bipartite systems of low dimensionality, considering both distinguishable (two-qubits) subsystems, and systems constituted of two indistinguishable particles.

On the Correlations Between Quantum Entanglement and q-Information Measures

In the present study we revisit the application of the $q$-information measures $R_q$ of Rényi's and $S_q$ of Tsallis' to the discussion of special features of two qubits systems. More specifically, we study the correlations between the $q$-information measures and the entanglement of formation of a general (pure or mixed) state $ρ$ describing a system of two qubits. The analysis uses a Monte Carlo procedure involving the 15-dimensional 2-qubits space of pure and mixed states, under the assumption that these states are uniformly distributed according to the product measure recently introduced by Zyczkowski {\it et al} [Phys. Conditional q-Entropies and Quantum Separability: A Numerical Exploration

We revisit the relationship between quantum separability and the sign of the relative q-entropies of composite quantum systems. The q-entropies depend on the density matrix eigenvalues p_i through the quantity omega_q = sum_i p_i^q. Renyi's and Tsallis' measures constitute particular instances of these entropies. We perform a systematic numerical survey of the space of mixed states of two-qubit systems in order to determine, as a function of the degree of mixture, and for different values of the entropic parameter q, the volume in state space occupied by those states characterized by positive values of the relative entropy. Similar calculations are performed for qubit-qutrit systems and for composite systems described by Hilbert spaces of larger dimensionality. We pay particular attention to the limit case q --> infinity. Our numerical results indicate that, as the dimensionalities of both subsystems increase, composite quantum systems tend, as far as their relative q-entropies are concerned, to behave in a classical way.

On the Entanglement Properties of Two-Rebits Systems

Following the recent work of Caves, Fuchs, and Rungta [Found. of Phys. Lett. {\bf 14} (2001) 199], we discuss some entanglement properties of two-rebits systems. We pay particular attention to the relationship between entanglement and purity. In particular, we determine (i) the probability densities for finding pure and mixed states with a given amount of entanglement, and (ii) the mean entanglement of two-rebits states as a function of the participation ratio.
