tt+tt cluster states in 6^{6}He

The study of tt+tt cluster states in 6^{6}He provides valuable insights into exotic nuclear structures and the behavior of fermionic cluster systems. This study shows rich cluster resonant state structures above the threshold, identified by experimental reconstruction and theoretical calculations. The excitation energy spectrum above the tt+tt threshold in 6^{6}He is measured via the fragmentation excitation process during the breakup reaction of 9^{9}Li on a 208^{208}Pb target at an incident energy of 32.7 MeV/nucleon. The resonant states are reconstructed from the final state coincident particles tt+tt using the invariant mass method, while the non-resonant background is estimated using the event mixing method. Two states of energy level peaks at 13.9±0.313.9\pm0.3 and 15.0±0.315.0\pm0.3 MeV are observed. Microscopic cluster model calculations exploring the t+tt+t resonant states in 6He^6\mathrm{He} yield theoretical energy spectra which are then compared with the current experimental results. The calculated reduced width amplitudes (RWA) of the t+tt+t channels further confirm the clustering structure of the identified t+tt+t resonant states.

Observation of the π2σ2π^2σ^2-bond linear-chain molecular structure in 16^{16}C

Measurements of the 2^2H(16^{16}C,16^{16}C∗^{*}→4\rightarrow^4He+12^{12}Be or 6^6He+10^{10}Be)2^2H inelastic excitation and cluster-decay reactions have been carried out at a beam energy of about 23.5 MeV/u. A specially designed detection system, including one multi-layer silicon-strip telescope at around zero degrees, has allowed the high-efficiency three-fold coincident detection and therefore the event-by-event determination of the energy of the unstable nucleus beam. The decay paths from the 16^{16}C resonances to various states of the final 10^{10}Be or 12^{12}Be nucleus are recognized thanks to the well-resolved QQ-value spectra. The reconstructed resonances at 16.5(1), 17.3(2), 19.4(1) and 21.6(2) MeV are assigned as the 0+0^+, 2+2^+, 4+4^+ and 6+6^+ members, respectively, of the positive-parity (3/2π−)2(1/2σ−)2(3/2_π^-)^2(1/2_σ^-)^2-bond linear-chain molecular band in 16^{16}C, based on the angular correlation analysis for the 16.5 MeV state and the excellent agreement of decay patterns between the measurements and theoretical predictions. Moreover, another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2(1) MeV which decays almost exclusively to the ∼\sim6 MeV states of 10^{10}Be, in line with the newly predicted pure σσ-bond linear-chain configuration.

Property investigation for different wedge-shaped CsI(Tl)s

Two types of wedge-shaped CsI(Tl)s were designed to be placed behind the annular double-sided silicon detectors (ADSSDs) to identify the light charged particles with the ΔE−EΔE-E method. The properties of CsI(Tl)s with different shapes and sizes, such as energy resolution, light output non-uniformity and particle identification capability, were compared by using a αα-source and a radioactive beam of 15^{15}C. The big-size CsI(Tl) was finally adopted to form the ΔE−EΔE-E telescope due to better properties. The property differences of these two types of CsI(Tl)s can be interpreted based on the Geant4 simulation results.

Employing p+58p+^{58}Ni elastic scattering for determination of KK-shell ionization cross section of 58^{58}Ni19+^{19+} in collisions with hydrogen gas target at 95 MeV/u

We present a new experimental method for measuring inner-shell ionization cross sections of low-charged ions colliding with hydrogen gas target in a storage ring. The method is based on a calibration by the well-known differential cross sections of proton elastic scattering on nuclei. KK-shell ionization cross section of 1047(100) barn for the 95 MeV/u 58^{58}Ni19+^{19+} ions colliding with hydrogen atoms was obtained in this work. Compared to the measured ionization cross section, a good agreement is achieved with the prediction by the Relativistic Ionization CODE Modified program (RICODE-M).

Positive-parity linear-chain molecular band in 16^{16}C

An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment 2H(16C, 4He+12Be or 6He+10Be)2H\rm {^2H}(^{16}C,~{^{4}He}+{^{12}Be}~or~{^{6}He}+{^{10}Be}){^2H} was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich 16C\rm {^{16}C}. For the first time, decay-paths from the 16C\rm {^{16}C} resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved QQ-value spectra obtained from the three-fold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the Jπ=0+{J^π}={0^+} band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with (3/2π−)2(1/2σ−)2{(3/2_π^-)^2}{(1/2_σ^-)^2} configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to 6He+10Be(∼6 MeV)\rm {^{6}He}+{^{10}Be{(\sim6~ MeV)}} final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure σσ-bond configuration.

Experimentally well-constrained masses of 27^{27}P and 27^{27}S: Implications for studies of explosive binary systems

The mass of 27^{27}P was predicted to impact the X-ray burst (XRB) model predictions of burst light curves and the composition of the burst ashes. To address the uncertainties and inconsistencies in the reported 27^{27}P masses in literature, a wealth of information has been extracted from the ββ-decay spectroscopy of the drip-line nucleus 27^{27}S. We determine the most precise mass excess of 27^{27}P to date to be −659(9)-659(9)~keV, which is 63~keV (2.3σσ) higher than the AME2016 recommended value of −722(26)-722(26)~keV. The experimentally unknown mass excess of 27^{27}S was estimated to be 17030(400)~keV in AME2016, and we constrain this mass to be 17678(77)~keV based on the measured ββ-delayed two-proton energy. In the temperature region of (0.06−0.3)(0.06-0.3)~GK, the 26^{26}Si(p,γ)27(p,γ)^{27}P reaction rate determined in this work is significantly lower than the rate recommended in the reaction rate libraries, up to two orders of magnitude around 0.1~GK. The impact of these newly determined masses and well-constrained rate on the modeling of the explosive astrophysical scenarios has been explored by hydrodynamic nova and post-processing XRB models. No substantial change was found in the nova contribution to the synthesis of galactic 26^{26}Al or in the XRB energy generation rate, but we found that the calculated abundances of 26^{26}Al and 26^{26}Si at the last stage of XRB are increased by a factor of 2.4. We also conclude that 27^{27}S is not a significant waiting point in the rapid proton capture process.

Simultaneous measurement of beta-delayed proton and gamma emission of 26^{26}P for 25^{25}Al(p,γp,γ)26^{26}Si reaction rate

ββ decay of 26^{26}P was used to populate the astrophysically important Ex=E_x=5929.4(8) keV Jπ=3+J^π=3{^+} state of 26^{26}Si. Both ββ-delayed proton at 418(8) keV and gamma ray at 1742(2) keV emitted from this state were measured simultaneously for the first time with corresponding absolute intensities of 11.1(12)\% and 0.59(44)\%, respectively. Besides, shell model calculations with weakly bound effects were performed to investigate the decay properties of other resonant states and a spin-parity of 4+4^+ rather than 0+0^+ was favored for the Ex=E_x=5945.9(40) keV state. Combining the experimental results and theoretical calculations, 25^{25}Al(p,γp,γ)26^{26}Si reaction rate in explosive hydrogen burning environments was calculated and compared with previous studies.

The decay characteristic of 22^{22}Si and its ground-state mass significantly affected by three-nucleon forces

The decay of the proton-rich nucleus 22^{22}Si was studied by a silicon array coupled with germanium clover detectors. Nine charged-particle groups are observed and most of them are recognized as ββ-delayed proton emission. A charged-particle group at 5600 keV is identified experimentally as ββ-delayed two-proton emission from the isobaric analog state of 22^{22}Al. Another charged-particle emission without any ββ particle at the low energy less than 300 keV is observed. The half-life of 22^{22}Si is determined as 27.5 (18) ms. The experimental results of ββ-decay of 22^{22}Si are compared and in nice agreement with shell-model calculations. The mass excess of the ground state of 22^{22}Si deduced from the experimental data shows that three-nucleon (3N) forces with repulsive contributions have significant effects on nuclei near the proton drip line.

New measurement of the excited states in 11^{11}B via the elastic resonance scattering of 10^{10}Be + p

The elastic resonance scattering protons decayed from 11^{11}B to the ground state of 10^{10}Be were measured using the thick-target technique in inverse kinematics at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL). The obtained excitation functions were well described by a multichannel R-matrix procedure under the kinematics process assumption of resonant elastic scattering. The excitation energy of the resonant states ranges from 13.0 to 17.0 MeV, and their resonant parameters such as the resonant energy Ex_{x}, the spin-parity Jπ^π, and the proton-decay partial width ΓpΓ_p were determined from R-matrix fits to the data. Two of these states around Ex_{x} = 14.55 MeV [Jπ^π = (3/2+^+, 5/2+^+), ΓpΓ_p = 475 ±\pm 80 keV] and Ex_{x} = 14.74 MeV [Jπ^π = 3/2−^-, ΓpΓ_p = 830 ±\pm 145 keV], and a probably populated state at Ex_x = 16.18 MeV [Jπ^π =(1/2−^-, 3/2−^-), ΓpΓ_p << 60 keV], are respectively assigned to the well-known states in 11^{11}B at 14.34 MeV, 15.29 MeV, and 16.43 MeV. The isospin of these three states were previously determined to be T = 3/2, but discrepancies exist in widths and energies due to the current counting statistics and energy resolution. We have compared these states with previous measurements, and the observation of the possibly populated resonance is discussed.

Examination of the role of the 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F reaction rate in type I x-ray bursts

The 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F reaction is one of the key reactions involved in the breakout from the hot-CNO cycle to the rp-process in type I x-ray bursts (XRBs). The resonant properties in the compound nucleus 18^{18}Ne have been investigated through resonant elastic scattering of 17^{17}F+pp. The radioactive 17^{17}F beam was separated by the CNS Radioactive Ion Beam separator (CRIB) and bombarded a thick H2_2 gas target at 3.6 MeV/nucleon. The recoiling light particles were measured by three ΔΔE-E silicon telescopes at laboratory angles of θθlab_{lab}≈\approx3∘^\circ, 10∘^\circ and 18∘^\circ, respectively. Five resonances at ExE_{x}=6.15, 6.28, 6.35, 6.85, and 7.05 MeV were observed in the excitation functions, and their spin-parities have been determined based on an RR-matrix analysis. In particular, JπJ^π=1−^- was firmly assigned to the 6.15-MeV state which dominates the thermonuclear 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F rate below 2 GK. As well, a possible new excited state in 18^{18}Ne was observed at ExE_{x}=6.85±\pm0.11 MeV with tentative JJ=0 assignment. This state could be the analog state of the 6.880 MeV (0−^{-}) level in the mirror nucleus 18^{18}O, or a bandhead state (0+^+) of the six-particle four-hole (6pp-4hh) band. A new thermonuclear 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F rate has been determined, and the astrophysical impact of multiple recent rates has been examined using an XRB model. Contrary to previous expectations, we find only modest impact on predicted nuclear energy generation rates from using reaction rates differing by up to several orders of magnitude.

Investigation of thermonuclear 18^{18}Ne(αα,pp)21^{21}Na rate via resonant elastic scattering of 21^{21}Na+pp

The 18^{18}Ne(αα,pp)21^{21}Na reaction is thought to be one of the key breakout reactions from the hot CNO cycles to the rp-process in type I x-ray bursts. In this work, the resonant properties of the compound nucleus 22^{22}Mg have been investigated by measuring the resonant elastic scattering of 21^{21}Na+pp. An 89 MeV 21^{21}Na radioactive beam delivered from the CNS Radioactive Ion Beam Separator bombarded an 8.8 mg/cm2^2 thick polyethylene (CH2_{2})n_{n} target. The 21^{21}Na beam intensity was about 2×\times105^{5} pps, with a purity of about 70% on target. The recoiled protons were measured at the center-of-mass scattering angles of θc.m.θ_{c.m.}≈\approx175.2∘{^\circ}, 152.2∘{^\circ}, and 150.5∘{^\circ} by three sets of ΔEΔE-EE telescopes, respectively. The excitation function was obtained with the thick-target method over energies ExE_x(22^{22}Mg)=5.5--9.2 MeV. In total, 23 states above the proton-threshold in 22^{22}Mg were observed, and their resonant parameters were determined via an RR-matrix analysis of the excitation functions. We have made several new JπJ^π assignments and confirmed some tentative assignments made in previous work. The thermonuclear 18^{18}Ne(αα,pp)21^{21}Na rate has been recalculated based on our recommended spin-parity assignments. The astrophysical impact of our new rate has been investigated through one-zone postprocessing x-ray burst calculations. We find that the 18^{18}Ne(αα,pp)21^{21}Na rate significantly affects the peak nuclear energy generation rate, reaction fluxes, as well as the onset temperature of this breakout reaction in these astrophysical phenomena.

Properties of resonant states in 18Ne relevant to key 14O(alpha,p)17F breakout reaction in type I x-ray bursts

The 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F reaction is one of the key reactions involved in the breakout from the hot-CNO cycle to the rp-process in type I x-ray bursts. The recoiling light particles were measured by using three ΔΔE-E silicon telescopes at laboratory angles of θθlab_{lab}≈\approx3∘^\circ, 10∘^\circ and 18∘^\circ, respectively. Five resonances at ExE_{x}=6.15, 6.28, 6.35, 6.85, and 7.05 MeV were observed in the excitation functions. Based on an RR-matrix analysis, JπJ^π=1−^- was firmly assigned to the 6.15-MeV state. This state dominates the thermonuclear 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F rate below 1 GK. We have also confirmed the existence and spin-parities of three states between 6.1 and 6.4 MeV. As well, a possible new excited state in 18^{18}Ne was observed at ExE_{x}=6.85±\pm0.11 MeV and tentatively assigned as JJ=0. This state could be the analog state of the 6.880 MeV (0−^{-}) level in the mirror nucleus 18^{18}O, or a bandhead state (0+^+) of the six-particle four-hole (6pp-4hh) band. A new thermonuclear rate of the 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F reaction has been determined, and its astrophysical impact has been examined within the framework of one-zone x-ray burst postprocessing calculations.

A confirmative spin-parity assignment for the key 6.15 MeV state in 18^{18}Ne of astrophysical importance

Proton resonant states in 18^{18}Ne have been investigated by the resonant elastic scattering of 17^{17}F+pp. The 17^{17}F beam was separated by the CNS radioactive ion beam separator (CRIB), and bombarded a thick H2_2 gas target at 3.6 MeV/nucleon. The recoiled light particles were measured by using three sets of ΔΔE-E Si telescope at scattering angles of θθlab_{lab}≈3∘\approx 3^\circ, 10∘^\circ and 18∘^\circ, respectively. Four resonances, {\it i.e.}, at ExE_{x}=6.15, 6.30, 6.85, and 7.05 MeV, were observed clearly. By RR-matrix analysis of the excitation functions, JπJ^π=1−^- was firmly assigned to the 6.15 MeV state which is a key state in calculating the reaction rate of 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F reaction. This reaction was thought to be one of the most probable key reactions for the breakout from the hot-CNO cycle to the rprp-process in type I x-ray bursts In addition, a new excited state observed at ExE_{x}=6.85 MeV was tentatively assigned as 0−^{-}, which could be the analog state of 6.880 MeV, 0−^{-} in mirror 18^{18}O.

The 18Ne(a,p)21Na breakout reaction in x-ray bursts: experimental determination of spin-parities for alpha resonances in 22Mg via resonant elastic scattering of 21Na+p

The 18^{18}Ne(αα,pp)21^{21}Na reaction provides a pathway for breakout from the hot CNO cycles to the rprp-process in type I x-ray bursts. To better determine this astrophysical reaction rate, the resonance parameters of the compound nucleus 22^{22}Mg have been investigated by measuring the resonant elastic scattering of 21^{21}Na+pp. An 89 MeV 21^{21}Na radioactive ion beam was produced at the CNS Radioactive Ion Beam Separator and bombarded an 8.8 mg/cm2^2 thick polyethylene target. The recoiled protons were measured at scattering angles of θc.m.θ_{c.m.}≈175∘\approx 175 {^\circ} and 152∘{^\circ} by three ΔEΔE-EE silicon telescopes. The excitation function was obtained with a thick-target method over energies ExE_x(22^{22}Mg)=5.5--9.2 MeV. The resonance parameters have been determined through an RR-matrix analysis. For the first time, the JπJ^π values for ten states above the alpha threshold in 22^{22}Mg have been experimentally determined in a single consistent measurement. We have made three new JπJ^π assignments and confirmed seven of the ten tentative assignments in the previous work. The 18^{18}Ne(αα,pp)21^{21}Na reaction rate has been recalculated, and the astrophysical impact of our new rate has been investigated through one-zone postprocessing x-ray burst calculations. We find that the 18^{18}Ne(αα,pp)21^{21}Na rate significantly affects the peak nuclear energy generation rate and the onset temperature of this breakout reaction in these phenomena.

Dynamics aspect of subbarrier fusion reaction in light heavy ion systems

Subbarrier fusion of the 7Li + 12C reaction is studied using an antisymmetrized molecular dynamics model (AMD) with an after burner, GEMINI. In AMD, 7Li shows an α+ t structure at its ground state and it is significantly deformed. Simulations are made near the Coulomb barrier energies, i.e., E_{cm} = 3 - 8 MeV. The total fusion cross section of the AMD + GEMINI calculations as a function of incident energy is compared to the experimental results and both are in good agreement at E_{cm} > 3 MeV. The cross section for the different residue channels of the AMD + GEMINI at E_{cm} = 5 MeV is also compared to the experimental results.

Investigation of excited states in 18^{18}Ne via resonant elastic scattering of 17^{17}F+p and its astrophysical implication in the stellar reaction of 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F

Properties of proton resonances in 18^{18}Ne have been investigated efficiently by utilizing a technique of proton resonant elastic scattering with a 17^{17}F radioactive ion (RI) beam and a thick proton target. A 4.22~MeV/nucleon 17^{17}F RI beam was produced via a projectile-fragmentation reaction, and subsequently separated by a Radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou ({\tt RIBLL}). Energy spectra of the recoiled protons were measured by two sets of ΔΔE-E silicon telescope at center-of-mass scattering angles of θc.m.θ_{c.m.}≈\approx175∘{^\circ}±\pm5∘{^\circ}, θc.m.θ_{c.m.}≈\approx152∘{^\circ}±\pm8∘{^\circ}, respectively. Several proton resonances in 18^{18}Ne were observed, and their resonant parameters have been determined by an RR-matrix analysis of the differential cross sections in combination with the previous results. The resonant parameters are related to the reaction-rate calculation of the stellar 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F reaction, which was thought to be the breakout reaction from the hot CNO cycles into the rprp-process in x-ray bursters. Here, JπJ^π=(3−^-, 2−^-) are tentatively assigned to the 6.15-MeV state which was thought the key 1−^- state previously. In addition, a doublet structure at 7.05 MeV are tentatively identified, and its contribution to the resonant reaction rate of 14^{14}O(αα,pp)17^{17}F could be enhanced by at least factors of about 4∼\sim6 in comparison with the previous estimation involving only a singlet. The present calculated resonant rates are much larger than those previous values, and it may imply that this breakout reaction could play a crucial role under x-ray bursters conditions.
