Photometric and Morphological Analysis of Fornax Galaxies through S-PLUS

The photometric and morphological analysis of galaxies in clusters provides invaluable information regarding the evolutionary stage of the cluster itself. In addition, it helps to understand how the environment affects the properties of the galaxies and, as a consequence, their evolutionary path. In this contribution we present the first steps on the photometric and morphological analysis of galaxies in the Fornax cluster using S-PLUS data. We expect that the S-PLUS novel filter set and wide field coverage allow us to obtain new information about Fornax and its galaxy population.

Imprimitive Permutations in Primitive Groups

The goal of this paper is to study primitive groups that are contained in the union of maximal (in the symmetric group) imprimitive groups. The study of types of permutations that appear inside primitive groups goes back to the origins of the theory of permutation groups. However, this is another instance of a situation common in mathematics in which a very natural problem turns out to be extremely difficult. Fortunately, the enormous progresses of the last few decades seem to allow a new momentum on the attack to this problem. In this paper we prove that there are infinite families of primitive groups contained in the union of imprimitive groups and propose a new hierarchy for primitive groups based on that fact. In addition to the previous results and hierarchy, we introduce some algorithms to handle permutations, provide the corresponding GAP implementation, solve some open problems, and propose a large list of open problems.

Minimum Number of Fox Colors for Small Primes

This article concerns exact results on the minimum number of colors of a Fox coloring over the integers modulo r, of a link with non-null determinant. Specifically, we prove that whenever the least prime divisor of the determinant of such a link and the modulus r is 2, 3, 5, or 7, then the minimum number of colors is 2, 3, 4, or 4 (respectively) and conversely. We are thus led to conjecture that for each prime p there exists a unique positive integer, m, with the following property. For any link L of non-null determinant and any modulus r such that p is the least prime divisor of the determinant of L and the modulus r, the minimum number of colors of L modulo r is m.
