Approximate quantum fractional revival in paths and cycles

We initiate the study of approximate quantum fractional revival in graphs, a generalization of pretty good quantum state transfer in graphs. We give a complete characterization of approximate fractional revival in a graph in terms of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix of a graph. This characterization follows from a lemma due to Kronecker on Diophantine approximation, and is similar to the spectral characterization of pretty good state transfer in graphs. Using this, we give a complete characterizations of when approximate fractional revival can occur in paths and in cycles.

Fundamentals of fractional revival in graphs

We develop a general spectral framework to analyze quantum fractional revival in quantum spin networks. In particular, we introduce generalizations of the notions of cospectral and strongly cospectral vertices to arbitrary subsets of vertices, and give various examples. This work resolves two open questions of Chan et.~al. ["Quantum Fractional Revival on graphs". Discrete Applied Math, 269:86-98, 2019.]

Turaev Hyperbolicity of Classical and Virtual Knots

By work of W. Thurston, knots and links in the 3-sphere are known to either be torus links, or to contain an essential torus in their complement, or to be hyperbolic, in which case a unique hyperbolic volume can be calculated for their complement. We employ a construction of Turaev to associate a family of hyperbolic 3-manifolds of finite volume to any classical or virtual link, even if non-hyperbolic. These are in turn used to define the Turaev volume of a link, which is the minimal volume among all the hyperbolic 3-manifolds associated via this Turaev construction. In the case of a classical link, we can also define the classical Turaev volume, which is the minimal volume among all the hyperbolic 3-manifolds associated via this Turaev construction for the classical projections only. We then investigate these new invariants.

Exponential Random Simplicial Complexes

Exponential random graph models have attracted significant research attention over the past decades. These models are maximum-entropy ensembles under the constraints that the expected values of a set of graph observables are equal to given values. Here we extend these maximum-entropy ensembles to random simplicial complexes, which are more adequate and versatile constructions to model complex systems in many applications. We show that many random simplicial complex models considered in the literature can be casted as maximum-entropy ensembles under certain constraints. We introduce and analyze the most general random simplicial complex ensemble $\mathbfΔ$ with statistically independent simplices. Our analysis is simplified by the observation that any distribution $\mathbb{P}(O)$ on any collection of objects $\mathcal{O}=\{O\}$, including graphs and simplicial complexes, is maximum-entropy under the constraint that the expected value of $-\ln \mathbb{P}(O)$ is equal to the entropy of the distribution. With the help of this observation, we prove that ensemble $\mathbfΔ$ is maximum-entropy under two types of constraints that fix the expected numbers of simplices and their boundaries.
