Inequalities for the generalized point pair function

We study a new generalized version of the point pair function defined with a constant $α>0$. We prove that this function is a quasi-metric for all values of $α>0$, and compare it to several hyperbolic-type metrics, such as the $j^*$-metric, the triangular ratio metric, and the hyperbolic metric. Most of the inequalities presented here have the best possible constants in terms of $α$. Furthermore, we research the distortion of the generalized point pair function under conformal and quasiregular mappings.

Inclusion properties of the triangular ratio metric balls

Inclusion properties are studied for balls of the triangular ratio metric, the hyperbolic metric, the $j^*$-metric, and the distance ratio metric defined in the unit ball domain. Several sharp results are proven and a conjecture about the relation between triangular ratio metric balls and hyperbolic balls is given. An algorithm is also built for drawing triangular ratio circles or three-dimensional spheres.

Intrinsic quasi-metrics

The point pair function $p_G$ defined in a domain $G\subsetneq\mathbb{R}^n$ is shown to be a quasi-metric and its other properties are studied. For a convex domain $G\subsetneq\mathbb{R}^n$, a new intrinsic quasi-metric called the function $w_G$ is introduced. Several sharp results are established for these two quasi-metrics, and their connection to the triangular ratio metric is studied.

Triangular ratio metric in the unit disk

The triangular ratio metric is studied in a domain $G\subsetneq\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq2$. Several sharp bounds are proven for this metric, especially, in the case where the domain is the unit disk of the complex plane. The results are applied to study the Hölder continuity of quasiconformal mappings.
