We establish a characterization of the well-behaved orbits of a totally Baire $G$-space of a hereditary Lindelöf locally compact group under a mild assumption of Hausdorffness. Furthermore we give a reformulation of the proof of Glimm's theorem generalizing the assertion from second countable to hereditary Lindelöf locally compact groups acting on second countable spaces.
First let $G$ be a completely solvable Lie group. We recall the proof of the following result: Any closed subgroup of $G$ possesses a unique syndetic hull in $G$. As a consequence we conclude that any uniform subgroup $Γ$ of $G$ is strongly rigid in the sense of G. D. Mostow: If $α:Γ\to G$ is a homomorphism of Lie groups such that $α(Γ)$ is uniform in $G$, then there is an automorphism $φ$ of $G$ such that $φ\,|\,Γ=α$. Now let $G$ be an arbitrary (exponential) solvable Lie group. We discuss certain conditions on closed subgroups of $G$ which are sufficient for the existence of a syndetic hull.
We study sub-Dirac operators that are associated with left-invariant bracket-generating sub-Riemannian structures on compact quotients of nilpotent semi-direct products $G=\mathbb{R}^n\rtimes_A\mathbb{R}$. We will prove that these operators admit an $L^2$-basis of eigenfunctions. Explicit examples show that the spectrum of these operators can be non-discrete and that eigenvalues may have infinite multiplicity.
Let $B$ be a finitely generated algebra over a field $k$. Then $B$ is called a Jacobson algebra if every semiprime ideal of $B$ is semiprimitive. We will discuss several conditions, all involving the commutant of simple $B$-modules, which imply that $B$ is Jacobson. In particular, we will recover the well-known result that every finitely generated almost commutative algebra is Jacobson. The same holds true for $\mathbb{N}$-filtered $k$-algebras $B$ with a locally finite filtration such that the associated graded $k$-algebra is left-noetherian.
Let $G$ be an exponential solvable Lie group. By definition $G$ is $\ast$-regular if $ker_{L^1(G)}π$ is dense in $ker_{C^\ast(G)}π$ for all unitary representations $π$ of $G$. Boidol characterized the $\ast$-regular exponential Lie groups by a purely algebraic condition. In this article we will focus on non-$\ast$-regular groups. We say that $G$ is primitive $\ast$-regular if the above density condition is satisfied for all irreducible representations. Our goal is to develop appropriate tools to verify this weaker property. To this end we will introduce Duflo pairs $(W,p)$ and central Fourier multipliers $ψ$ on the stabilizer $M=G_fN$ of representations $π=\mcK(f)$ in general position. Using Littlewood-Paley theory we will derive some results on multiplier operators $T_ψ$ which might be of independent interest. The scope of our method of separating triples $(W,p,ψ)$ will be sketched by studying two significant examples in detail. It should be noticed that the methods 'separating triples' and 'restriction to subquotients' suffice to prove that all exponential solvable Lie groups of dimension $\le 7$ are primitive $\ast$-regular.
A locally compact group $G$ is said to be $\ast$-regular if the natural map $Ψ:\Prim C^\ast(G)\to\Prim_{\ast} L^1(G)$ is a homeomorphism with respect to the Jacobson topologies on the primitive ideal spaces $\Prim C^\ast(G)$ and $\Prim_{\ast} L^1(G)$. In 1980 J. Boidol characterized the $\ast$-regular ones among all exponential Lie groups by a purely algebraic condition. In this article we introduce the notion of $L^1$-determined ideals in order to discuss the weaker property of primitive $\ast$-regularity. We give two sufficient criteria for closed ideals $I$ of $C^\ast(G)$ to be $L^1$-determined. Herefrom we deduce a strategy to prove that a given exponential Lie group is primitive $\ast$-regular. The author proved in his thesis that all exponential Lie groups of dimension $\le 7$ have this property. So far no counter-example is known. Here we discuss the example $G=B_5$, the only critical one in dimension $\le 5$.
