We prove the Cartan-Eilenberg stable elements theorem and construct a Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre type spectral sequence for pro-fusion systems. As an application, we determine the continuous mod-$p$ cohomology ring of $\text{GL}_2(\mathbb{Z}_p)$ for any odd prime $p$.
Let p>3 be a prime number and let r be an integer with 1<r<p-1. For each r, let moreover G_r denote the unique quotient of the maximal class pro-p group of size p^{r+1}. We show that the mod-p cohomology ring of G_r has depth one and that, in turn, it satisfies the equalities in Carlson's depth conjecture [3].
Let $p$ be a prime number, let $d$ be an integer and let $G$ be a $d$-generated finite $p$-group of nilpotency class smaller than $p$. Then the number of possible isomorphism types for the mod $p$ cohomology algebra $H^*(G;{\mathbb F}_p)$ is bounded in terms of $p$ and $d$.
We describe the cohomology ring $H^*(J_2;\mathbb{F}_3)$ both as subring of $H^*(3^{1+2}_+;\mathbb{F}_3)$ and with an abstract presentation. We also give its Poincaré series. We use as tool a spectral sequence for the strongly closed $3$-subgroup of $J_2$. This method might be used to compute the cohomology of any finite simple group with a strongly closed $p$-subgroup.
Lazard correspondence provides an isomorphism of categories between finitely generated nilpotent pro-$p$ groups of nilpotency class smaller than $p$ and finitely generated nilpotent $\mathbb{Z}_p$-Lie algebras of nilpotency class smaller than $p$. Denote by $H_{Gr}^i$ and $H_{Lie}^i$ the group cohomology functors and the Lie cohomology functors respectively. The aim of this paper is to show that for $i=0$, $1$ and $1$, and for a given category of modules the cohomology functors $H_{Gr}^i\circ \textbf{exp}$ and $H^i_{Lie}$ are naturally equivalent. A similar result is proven for $i=3$ and the relative cohomology groups.
