Motivic Multiple Zeta Values and Superstring Amplitudes

The structure of tree-level open and closed superstring amplitudes is analyzed. For the open superstring amplitude we find a striking and elegant form, which allows to disentangle its alpha'-expansion into several contributions accounting for different classes of multiple zeta values. This form is bolstered by the decomposition of motivic multiple zeta values, i.e. the latter encapsulate the alpha'-expansion of the superstring amplitude. Moreover, a morphism induced by the coproduct maps the alpha'-expansion onto a non-commutative Hopf algebra. This map represents a generalization of the symbol of a transcendental function. In terms of elements of this Hopf algebra the alpha'-expansion assumes a very simple and symmetric form, which carries all the relevant information. Equipped with these results we can also cast the closed superstring amplitude into a very elegant form.

Higher Point Spin Field Correlators in D=4 Superstring Theory

Calculational tools are provided allowing to determine general tree-level scattering amplitudes for processes involving bosons and fermions in heterotic and superstring theories in four space-time dimensions. We compute higher-point superstring correlators involving massless four-dimensional fermionic and spin fields. In D=4 these correlators boil down to a product of two pure spin field correlators of left- and right-handed spin fields. This observation greatly simplifies the computation of such correlators. The latter are basic ingredients to compute multi-fermion superstring amplitudes in D=4. Their underlying fermionic structure and the fermionic couplings in the effective action are determined by these correlators.

Higher Loop Spin Field Correlators in Various Dimensions

We compute higher-point superstring correlators involving spin fields in various even space-time dimensions D at tree-level and to arbitrary loop order. This generalizes previous work in D=4 space-time dimensions. The main focus are D=6,8 and D=10 superstring compactifications for which correlation functions with four and more spin fields are computed. More precisely, we present every non-vanishing six-point function. A number of results can even be derived for arbitrary D. A closed formula for the correlators <psi ... psi SS> with any number of fermions psi and two spin fields S in D space-time dimensions is given for arbitrary genus. Moreover, in D=6 and for arbitrary genus, we find a general formula for the correlators <S dot S ... S dot S>. The latter serve as basic building blocks to construct higher-point fermionic correlation functions. In D=8 we can profit from the SO(8)-triality to derive further tree-level correlators with a large numbers of spin fields.
