Diquark mass and quark-diquark potential by lattice QCD using an extended HAL QCD method with a static quark

We will calculate the diquark mass together with the quark-diquark potential. We apply an extended HAL QCD potential method to a baryonic system made up from a static quark and a diquark. Numerical calculations are performed by employing 2+1 flavor QCD gaugeconfigurations generated by CP-PACS and JLQCD Collaborations on a $16^{3} \times 32$ lattice with $a^{-1} \approx 1.6$ GeV. To improve the statistical noise in the propagators of the static quark, the HYP smearing is employed on the gauge links. Two-point correlators of quark-diquark baryonic system are then computed to obtain their ground-state energies where various types of diquarks are considered (eg: scalar diquark, axial-vector diquark etc). We apply an extended HAL QCD method on a baryonic system made up from a scalar diquark and a static quark to study the scalar diquark mass and the quark-diquark potential. In order to determine the diquark mass self-consistently in this HALQCD method, we demand that the baryonic spectrum in the p-wave sector obtained from the two-point correlators should be reproduced by the potential obtained from the baryonic system in the s-wave sector. We obtain the scalar diquark mass of roughly $(2/3) m_{N}$ , i.e., twice the naïve estimates of a constituent quark mass together with the quark-diquark potential of Cornell type (Coulomb + linear).

$ΛΛ$ and N$Ξ$ interactions from Lattice QCD near the physical point

The $S$-wave $ΛΛ$ and $N Ξ$ interactions are studied on the basis of the (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD simulations close to the physical point ($m_π\simeq 146{\rm{MeV}}$ and $m_K \simeq 525{\rm{MeV}}$). Lattice QCD potentials in four different spin-isospin channels are extracted by using the coupled-channel HAL QCD method and are parametrized by analytic functions to calculate the scattering phase shifts. The $ΛΛ$ interaction at low energies shows only a weak attraction, which does not provide a bound or resonant dihyperon. The $NΞ$ interaction in the spin-singlet and isospin-singlet channel is most attractive and lead the $NΞ$ system near unitarity. Relevance to the strangeness=$-2$ hypernuclei as well as to two-baryon correlations in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions is also discussed.

Lattice QCD Study of the Nucleon-Charmonium Interaction

The $J/ψ$-nucleon interaction is studied by lattice QCD calculations. At the leading order of the derivative expansion, the interaction consists of four terms: the central, the spin-spin, and two types of tensor forces. We determine these spin-dependent forces quantitatively by using the time-dependent HAL QCD method. We find that the spin-spin force is the main cause of the hyperfine splitting between the $J=1/2$ and the $J=3/2$ states, while the two tensor forces have much smaller effects on the S-wave scattering processes.

Fate of the Tetraquark Candidate Zc(3900) from Lattice QCD

The possible exotic meson $Z_{c}(3900)$, found in $e^+ e^-$ reactions, is studied by the method of coupled-channel scattering in lattice QCD. The interaction among $πJ/ψ$, $ρη_{c}$ and $\bar{D}D^{*}$ channels is derived from (2+1)-flavor QCD simulations at $m_π=410$-$700$ MeV. The interaction is dominated by the off-diagonal $πJ/ψ$-$\bar{D}D^{*}$ and $ρη_{c}$-$\bar{D}D^{*}$ couplings, which indicates that the $Z_{c}(3900)$ is not a usual resonance but a threshold cusp. Semi-phenomenological analyses with the coupled-channel interaction are presented to confirm this conclusion.

Towards Lattice QCD Baryon Forces at the Physical Point: First Results

Lattice QCD calculations of baryon forces are performed for the first time with (almost) physical quark masses. $N_f = 2+1$ dynamical clover fermion gauge configurations are generated at the lattice spacing of $a \simeq 0.085$ fm on a $(96 a)^4 \simeq (8.2 {\rm fm})^4$ lattice with quark masses corresponding to $(m_π, m_K) \simeq (146, 525)$ MeV. Baryon forces are calculated using the time-dependent HAL QCD method. In this report, we study $ΞΞ$ and $NN$ systems both in $^1S_0$ and $^3S_1$-$^3D_1$ channels, and the results for the central and tensor forces as well as phase shifts in the $ΞΞ$ $(^1S_0)$ channel are presented.

$ΩΩ$ interaction from 2+1 flavor lattice QCD

We investigate the interaction between $Ω$ baryons in the $^1S_0$ channel from 2+1 flavor lattice QCD simulations. On the basis of the HAL QCD method, the $ΩΩ$ potential is extracted from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave function calculated on the lattice by using the PACS-CS gauge configurations with the lattice spacing $a\simeq 0.09$ fm, the lattice volume $L\simeq 2.9$ fm and the quark masses corresponding to $m_π\simeq 700$ MeV and $m_Ω\simeq 1970$ MeV. The $ΩΩ$ potential has a repulsive core at short distance and an attractive well at intermediate distance. Accordingly, the phase shift obtained from the potential shows moderate attraction at low energies. Our data indicate that the $ΩΩ$ system with the present quark masses may appear close to the unitary limit where the scattering length diverges.

Coupled channel approach to strangeness S = -2 baryon-bayron interactions in Lattice QCD

The baryon-baryon interactions with strangeness S = -2 with the flavor SU(3) breaking are calculated for the first time by using the HAL QCD method extended to coupled channel system in lattice QCD. The potential matrices are extracted from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions obtained by the 2+1 flavor gauge configurations of CP-PACS/JLQCD Collaborations with a physical volume of 1.93 fm cubed and with m_pi/m_K = 0.96, 0.90, 0.86. The spatial structure and the quark mass dependence of the potential matrix in the baryon basis and in the SU(3) basis are investigated.

First results of baryon interactions from lattice QCD with physical masses (1) -- General overview and two-nucleon forces --

We present the lattice QCD studies for baryon-baryon interactions for the first time with (almost) physical quark masses. $N_f = 2+1$ gauge configurations are generated with the Iwasaki gauge action and nonperturbatively $O(a)$-improved Wilson quark action with stout smearing on the lattice of $(96 a)^4 \simeq (8.2 {\rm fm})^4$ with $a \simeq 0.085$ fm, where $m_π\simeq 146$ MeV and $m_K \simeq 525$ MeV. Baryon forces are calculated from Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) correlation functions using the time-dependent HAL QCD method. In this report, we first give the general overview of the theoretical frameworks essential to the physical point calculation of baryon forces. We then present the numerical results for the two-nucleon central and tensor forces in $^3S_1$-$^3D_1$ coupled channel and the central force in $^1S_0$ channel. In particular, a clear signal is obtained for the tensor force.

Medium-heavy nuclei from nucleon-nucleon interactions in lattice QCD

On the basis of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method with the nucleon-nucleon forces obtained from lattice QCD simulations, the properties of the medium-heavy doubly-magic nuclei such as 16^O and 40^Ca are investigated. We found that those nuclei are bound for the pseudo-scalar meson mass M_PS ~ 470 MeV. The mass number dependence of the binding energies, single-particle spectra and density distributions are qualitatively consistent with those expected from empirical data at the physical point, although these hypothetical nuclei at heavy quark mass have smaller binding energies than the real nuclei.

Charmed Tetraquarks Tcc and Tcs from Dynamical Lattice QCD Simulations

Charmed tetraquarks $T_{cc}=(cc\bar{u}\bar{d})$ and $T_{cs}=(cs\bar{u}\bar{d})$ are studied through the S-wave meson-meson interactions, $D$-$D$, $\bar{K}$-$D$, $D$-$D^{*}$ and $\bar{K}$-$D^{*}$, on the basis of the (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD simulations with the pion mass $m_π \simeq $410, 570 and 700 MeV. For the charm quark, the relativistic heavy quark action is employed to treat its dynamics on the lattice. Using the HAL QCD method, we extract the S-wave potentials in lattice QCD simulations, from which the meson-meson scattering phase shifts are calculated. The phase shifts in the isospin triplet ($I$=1) channels indicate repulsive interactions, while those in the $I=0$ channels suggest attraction, growing as $m_π$ decreases. This is particularly prominent in the $T_{cc} (J^P=1^+,I=0)$ channel, though neither bound state nor resonance are found in the range $m_π =410-700$ MeV. We make a qualitative comparison of our results with the phenomenological diquark picture.

Spin-2 $NΩ$ Dibaryon from Lattice QCD

We investigate properties of the $N$(nucleon)-$Ω$(Omega) interaction in lattice QCD to seek for possible dibaryon states in the strangeness $-3$ channel. We calculate the $NΩ$ potential through the equal-time Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave function in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD with the renormalization group improved Iwasaki gauge action and the nonperturbatively $\mathcal{O}(a)$ improved Wilson quark action at the lattice spacing $a\simeq 0.12$ fm on a (1.9 fm)$^{3}\times$ 3.8 fm lattice. The $ud$ and $s$ quark masses in our study correspond to $m_π= 875(1)$ MeV and $m_{K}= 916(1)$ MeV. At these parameter values, the central potential in the S-wave with the spin 2 shows attractions at all distances.By solving the Schrödinger equation with this potential, we find one bound state whose binding energy is $18.9(5.0)(^{+12.1}_{-1.8})$ MeV, where the first error is the statistical one, while the second represents the systematic error.

Asymptotic behavior of Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions for multi-particles in quantum field theories

We derive asymptotic behaviors of the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave function at large space separations for systems with more than 2 particles in quantum field theories. To deal with $n$-particles in the center of mass flame coherently, we introduce the Jacob coordinates of $n$ particles and then combine their $3(n-1)$ coordinates into the one spherical coordinate in $D=3(n-1)$ dimensions. We parametrize on-shell $T$-matrix for $n$-particle system of scalar fields at low energy, using the unitarity constraint of the $S$-matrix. We then express asymptotic behaviors of the NBS wave function for $n$ particles at low energy, in terms of parameters of $T$-matrix, and show that the NBS wave function carry the information of $T$-matrix such as phase shifts and mixing angles of the $n$-particle system in its own asymptotic behavior, so that the NBS wave function can be considered as the scattering wave of $n$-particles in quantum mechanics. This property is one of the essential ingredients of the HAL QCD scheme to define "potential" from the NBS wave function in quantum field theories such as QCD. Our results, together with an extension to systems with spin 1/2 particles, justify the HAL QCD's definition of potentials for 3 or more nucleons(baryons) in terms the NBS wave functions.

Equation of State for Nucleonic Matter and its Quark Mass Dependence from the Nuclear Force in Lattice QCD

Quark mass dependence of the equation of state (EOS) for nucleonic matter is investigated, on the basis of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method with the nucleon-nucleon interaction extracted from lattice QCD simulations. We observe saturation of nuclear matter at the lightest available quark mass corresponding to the pseudoscalar meson mass ~ 469 MeV. Mass-radius relation of the neutron stars is also studied with the EOS for neutron-star matter from the same nuclear force in lattice QCD. We observe that the EOS becomes stiffer and thus the maximum mass of neutron star increases as the quark mass decreases toward the physical point.

Construction of energy-independent potentials above inelastic thresholds in quantum field theories

We construct energy independent but non-local potentials above inelastic thresholds, in terms of Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions defined in quantum field theories such as QCD. As an explicit example, we consider NN --> NN + n pi scattering processes for n=0,1,2,.... We show an existence of energy-independent coupled channel potentials with a non-relativistic approximation, where momenta of all particles are small compared with their own masses. In the case of two-body inelastic scatterings such as Lambda Lambda --> Lambda Lambda, N Xi, Sigma Sigma, on the other hand, we show that energy-independent potentials can be constructed without relying on non-relativistic approximations. We also propose a method to extract these potentials using time-dependence of general correlation functions.

Exploring Three-Nucleon Forces in Lattice QCD

Three-nucleon forces (3NF) are investigated from two-flavor lattice QCD simulations. We utilize the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave function to determine two-nucleon forces (2NF) and 3NF in the same framework. As a first exploratory study, we extract 3NF in which three nucleons are aligned linearly with an equal spacing. This is the simplest geometrical configuration which reduces the huge computational cost of calculating the NBS wave function. Quantum numbers of the three-nucleon system are chosen to be (I, J^P)=(1/2,1/2^+) (the triton channel). Lattice QCD simulations are performed using N_f=2 dynamical clover fermion configurations at the lattice spacing of a = 0.156 fm on a 16^3 x 32 lattice with a large quark mass corresponding to m_π= 1.13 GeV. We find repulsive 3NF at short distance in the triton channel. Several sources of systematic errors are also discussed.

Hadron-Hadron Interactions from Imaginary-time Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter Wave Function on the Lattice

Imaginary-time Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave function is introduced to extend our previous approach for hadron-hadron interactions on the lattice. Scattering states of hadrons with different energies encoded in the NBS wave-function are utilized to extract non-local hadron-hadron potential. "The ground state saturation", which is commonly used in lattice QCD but is hard to be achieved for multi-baryons, is not required. We demonstrate that the present method works efficiently for the nucleon-nucleon interaction (the potential and the phase shift) in the 1S_0 channel.

Two-Baryon Potentials and H-Dibaryon from 3-flavor Lattice QCD Simulations

Baryon-baryon potentials are obtained from 3-flavor QCD simulations with the lattice volume L ~ 4 fm, the lattice spacing a ~ 0.12 fm, and the pseudo-scalar-meson mass M_ps =469 - 1171 MeV. The NN scattering phase shift and the mass of H-dibaryon in the flavor SU(3) limit are extracted from the resultant potentials by solving the Schrodinger equation. The NN phase shift in the SU(3) limit is shown to have qualitatively similar behavior as the experimental data. A bound H-dibaryon in the SU(3) limit is found to exist in the flavor-singlet J^P=0^+ channel with the binding energy of about 26 MeV for the lightest quark mass M_ps = 469 MeV. Effect of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking on the H-dibaryon is estimated by solving the coupled-channel Schrodinger equation for Lambda Lambda - N Xi - Sigma Sigma with the physical baryon masses and the potential matrix obtained in the SU(3) limit: a resonant H-dibaryon is found between Lambda Lambda and N Xi thresholds in this treatment.

An extension to the Luscher's finite volume method above inelastic threashold (formalism)

An extension of the Luscher's finite volume method above inelastic thresholds is proposed. It is fulfilled by extendind the procedure recently proposed by HAL-QCD Collaboration for a single channel system. Focusing on the asymptotic behaviors of the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave functions (equal-time) near spatial infinity, a coupled channel extension of effective Schrodinger equation is constructed by introducing an energy-independent interaction kernel. Because the NBS wave functions contain the information of T-matrix at long distance, S-matrix can be obtained by solving the coupled channel effective Schrodinger equation in the infinite volume.

Bound H-dibaryon in Flavor SU(3) Limit of Lattice QCD

The flavor-singlet H-dibaryon, which has strangeness -2 and baryon number 2, is studied by the approach recently developed for the baryon-baryon interactions in lattice QCD. The flavor-singlet central potential is derived from the spatial and imaginary-time dependence of the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave function measured in N_f=3 full QCD simulations with the lattice size of L = 2, 3, 4 fm. The potential is found to be insensitive to the volume, and it leads to a bound H-dibaryon with the binding energy of 30 - 40 MeV for the pseudo-scalar meson mass of 673 - 1015 MeV.

Nucleon-Nucleon Potential and its Non-locality in Lattice QCD

By the quenched lattice QCD simulation for two nucleons with finite scattering energy, validity of the delivative expansion of the general nucleon-nucleon potential U(r,r') = V(r, {\nabla}_r) δ^3(r-r') is studied. The relative kinetic energy between two nucleons is introduced through the anti-periodic boundary condition in the spatial directions. On a hypercubic lattice with the lattice spacing a ~ 0.137 fm and the spatial extent L_s ~ 4.4 fm with the pion mass m_π ~ 530 MeV, the local potentials for two different energies (E ~ 0 MeV and 45 MeV) are compared and found to be identical within statistical errors, which validates the local approximation of U(r,r') up to E=45 MeV for the central and tensor potentials. Central potentials in the spin-singlet channel for different orbital angular momentums (l=0 and l=2) at E ~ 45 MeV are also found to be the same within the errors, which also supports the local approximation.

Baryon-Baryon Interactions in the Flavor SU(3) Limit from Full QCD Simulations on the Lattice

We investigate baryon-baryon (BB) interactions in the 3-flavor full QCD simulations with degenerate quark masses for all flavors. The BB potentials in the orbital S-wave are extracted from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions measured on the lattice. We observe strong flavor-spin dependences of the BB potentials at short distances. In particular, a strong repulsive core exists in the flavor-octet and spin-singlet channel (the 8_s representation), while an attractive core appears in the flavor singlet channel (the 1 representation). We discuss a relation of such flavor-spin dependence with the Pauli exclusion principle in the quark level. Possible existence of an H-dibaryon resonance above the Lambda-Lambda threshold is also discussed.

Lattice study of nuclear forces

Recent progress of lattice QCD study of nuclear forces (potentials) is reviewed. Scattering phase shift is an important observable for two particle system. In lattice QCD, phase shifts are calculated from long distance behavior of Bethe-Salpeter (BS) wave functions by Luescher's finite volume method. For applications to nuclear physics of multi-nucleon system, it is more advantageous to convert the information of phase shifts in the form of potentials. We therefore extend the method so as to generate the potentials from BS wave functions. These potentials are faithful to scattering phase shift by construction, because they can reproduce BS wave functions in which the information of phase shift is embeded in the long distance part. The method was first applied to the central potential in NN system. It is now applied to many objects, such as tensor potential, hyperon potentials, energy dependence of nuclear potentials, and investigations of the repulsive core at short distance.

Non-locality of the nucleon-nucleon potential from Lattice QCD

The Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave function for two nucleons on the lattice has been shown to yield a non-local and energy-independent nucleon-nucleon (NN) potential, U(r,r'). In practice, the derivative expansion of U(r,r') is currently employed to determine the potential at low energies. In this report, we study the magnitude of non-locality to check the convergence of such a derivative expansion. With quenched lattice QCD at m_π= 530MeV, we compare the NN potentials at the center of mass energy E ~ 0 MeV and at E ~ 45 MeV. We also investigate the angular momentum dependence of the spin singlet potential, by comparing the potentials in 1S0 and 1D2 channels. We find that the non-locality and the angular momentum dependence in the above energy range are negligible within statistical errors.

Theoretical Foundation of the Nuclear Force in QCD and its applications to Central and Tensor Forces in Quenched Lattice QCD Simulations

We present full accounts of a method to extract nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials from the Bethe-Salpter amplitude in lattice QCD. The method is applied to two nucleons on the lattice with quenched QCD simulations. By disentangling the mixing between the S-state and the D-state, we obtain central and tensor potentials in the leading order of the velocity expansion of the non-local NN potential. The spatial structure and the quark mass dependence of the potentials are analyzed in detail.

Energy dependence of nucleon-nucleon potentials

We investigate the energy dependence of potentials defined through the Bethe-Salpeter wave functions. We analytically evaluate such a potential in the Ising field theory in 2 dimensions and show that its energy dependence is weak at low energy. We then numerically calculate the nucleon-nucleon potential at non-zero energy using quenched QCD with anti-periodic boundary condition. In this case we also observe that the potentials are almost identical at $E\simeq 0$ and $E\simeq 50$ MeV, where $E$ is the center of mass kinetic energy.
