Contribution of the Weinberg-type Operator to atomic and nuclear electric dipole moments

The contribution of the CP violating three-gluon Weinberg operator, $\frac{1}{3!} w f^{abc} ε^{νραβ} G^a_{μν} G^b_{αβ} G^{c μ}_ρ$, to the atomic and nuclear EDMs is estimated using QCD sum rules. After calculating the transition matrix element between the pion and the vacuum through the Weinberg operator, we obtain the long-range CP-odd nuclear force by determining the isovector CP-odd pion-nucleon vertex, using chiral perturbation theory at NLO. The EDMs of $^{199}$Hg, $^{129}$Xe, $^{225}$Ra, $^2$H, and $^3$He are finally given including comprehensive uncertainty analysis. While the leading contribution of the $^{199}$Hg EDM is given by the intrinsic nucleon EDM, that of $^{129}$Xe atom may be dominated by the one-pion exchange CP-odd nuclear force generated by the Weinberg operator. From current experimental data of the $^{199}$Hg atomic EDM, we obtain an upper limit on the Weinberg operator magnitude of $\left|w \right| < 4 \times 10^{-10} {\rm GeV}^{-2}$ if we assume that it is the only source of CP violation at the scale $μ=1$ TeV.

Interglueball potential in lattice SU(N) gauge theories

The dynamics of the glueballs is important in the context of the experimental search as well as for understanding the non-Abelian gauge theory. The glueballs of the dark $SU(N_c)$ Yang-Mills theory are also good candidates of dark matter. In this proceedings contribution, we report on the result of the lattice calculation of the interglueball potential of the Yang-Mills theory with the color numbers $N_c=2,3,4$, with a detailed inspection of the systematics due to the discretization.

QCD corrections in $tqγ$ production at hadron colliders

We study QCD corrections for the associated production of a single top quark and a photon ($tqγ$ production) at hadron colliders. We calculate the NLO cross section at LHC and future collider energies for a variety of kinematical cuts, and we estimate uncertainties from scale dependence and from parton distributions. We also calculate differential distributions in top-quark transverse-momentum and rapidity as well as photon energy. Finally, we study higher-order corrections from soft-gluon emission for this process, and we provide approximate NNLO (aNNLO) results for the cross section and top-quark differential distributions. We also compare our calculations with recent measurements from CMS and ATLAS at the LHC and find that the aNNLO corrections improve the comparison between the data and the Standard Model predictions.

Weinberg Operator Contribution to the Hadronic CP Violation

The CP violating Weinberg operator (or the gluon chromo-electric dipole moment) is generated in many candidates of new physics beyond the standard model, and it contributes to observables such as the electric dipole moments (EDM) of the neutron, nuclei and atoms. In this proceedings contribution, we review the present understanding of the Weinberg operator as well as the result of the estimation of its effect to the EDM of $^3$He nucleus through the contact CP-odd nuclear force.

$tW$ and $tZ'$ production at hadron colliders

We present theoretical results with soft-gluon corrections for two separate processes: (1) the production of a single top quark in association with a $W$ boson in the Standard Model; and (2) the production of a single top quark in association with a heavy $Z'$ boson in new physics models with or without anomalous couplings. We show that the higher-order corrections from soft-gluon emission are dominant for a wide range of collider energies. Results are shown for the total cross sections and top-quark transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions for $tW$ and $tZ'$ production at LHC and future collider energies up to 100 TeV. The uncertainties from scale dependence and parton distribution functions are also analyzed.

CP violating effects in $^{210}$Fr and prospects for new physics beyond the Standard Model

We report theoretical results of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of $^{210}$Fr which arises from the interaction of the EDM of an electron with the internal electric field in an atom and the scalar-pseudoscalar electron-nucleus interaction; the two dominant sources of CP violation in this atom. Employing the relativistic coupled-cluster theory, we evaluate the enhancement factors for these two CP violating interactions to an accuracy of about 3% and analyze the contributions of the many-body effects. These two quantities in combination with the projected sensitivity of the $^{210}$Fr EDM experiment provide constraints on new physics beyond the Standard Model. Particularly, we demonstrate that their precise values are necessary to account for the effect of the bottom quark in models in which the Higgs sector is augmented by nonstandard Yukawa interactions such as the two-Higgs doublet model.

Dark matter scattering cross section and dynamics in dark Yang-Mills theory

We calculate for the first time the scattering cross section between lightest glueballs in $SU(2)$ pure Yang-Mills theory, which are good candidates of dark matter. In the first step, we evaluate the interglueball potential on lattice using the HAL QCD method, with several lattice spacings ($β= 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4$, and 2.5). The systematics associated with nonzero angular momentum effect is removed by subtracting the centrifugal force. The statistical accuracy is improved by employing the cluster-decomposition error reduction technique and by using all space-time symmetries. We then determine the low energy glueball effective Lagrangian and the scattering cross section at low energy, which is compared with the observational constraint on the dark matter self-scattering. We derive the lower bound on the scale parameter of the $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills theory, as $Λ> 60$ MeV.

Large long-distance contributions to the electric dipole moments of charged leptons in the standard model

We reevaluate the electric dipole moment (EDM) of charged leptons in the standard model using hadron effective models. We find unexpectedly large EDM generated by the hadron level long-distance effect, $d_e = { 5.8 \times 10^{-40} }$, $d_μ= { 1.4 \times 10^{-38}}$, and $d_τ= { -7.3 \times 10^{-38} }$ ecm, with an error bar of 70\%, exceeding the conventionally known four-loop level elementary contribution by several orders of magnitude.

Quark level and hadronic contributions to the electric dipole moment of charged leptons in the standard model

We evaluate the electric dipole moment of charged leptons in the standard model, where the complex phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix is the only source of CP violation. We first prove that, at the quark-gluon level, it is suppressed by a factor of $m_b^2 m_c^2 m_s^2$ at all orders of perturbation due to the Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani mechanism. We then calculate the hadronic long distance contribution generated by vector mesons at one-loop level. The $|ΔS|=1$ weak hadronic interaction is derived using the factorization, and the strong interaction is modeled by the hidden local symmetry framework. We find that the electric dipole moments of charged leptons obtained from this hadronic mechanism are much larger than the perturbative four-loop level quark-gluon process, by several orders of magnitude.

Weinberg operator contribution to the nucleon electric dipole moment in the quark model

We evaluate the contribution of the CP violating gluon chromo-electric dipole moment (the so-called Weinberg operator, denoted as $w$) to the electric dipole moment (EDM) of nucleons in the nonrelativistic quark model. The CP-odd interquark potential is modeled by the perturbative one-loop level gluon exchange generated by the Weinberg operator with massive quarks and gluons. The nucleon EDM is obtained by solving the nonrelativistic Schrödinger equation of the three-quark system using the Gaussian expansion method. It is found that the resulting nucleon EDM, which may reasonably be considered as the irreducible contribution, is smaller than the one obtained after $γ_5$-rotating the anomalous magnetic moment using the CP-odd mass calculated with QCD sum rules. We estimate the total contribution to be $d_n = w \times 20 \, e \, {\rm MeV}$ and $d_p = - w \times 18 \, e \, {\rm MeV}$ with 60% of theoretical uncertainty.

Complete NLO QCD study of single- and double-quarkonium hadroproduction in the colour-evaporation model at the Tevatron and the LHC

We study the Single-Parton-Scattering (SPS) production of double quarkonia (J/psi+J/psi, J/psi+Upsilon, and Upsilon+Upsilon) in pp and pp(bar) collisions at the LHC and the Tevatron as measured by the CMS, ATLAS, LHCb, and D0 experiments in the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM), based on the quark-hadron-duality, including Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) QCD corrections up to alpha_s^5. To do so, we also perform the first true NLO --up to alpha_s^4-- study of the p_T-differential cross section for single-quarkonium production. This allows us to fix the non-perturbative CEM parameters at NLO accuracy in the region where quarkonium-pair data are measured. Our results show that the CEM at NLO in general significantly undershoots these experimental data and, in view of the other existing SPS studies, confirm the need for Double Parton Scattering (DPS) to account for the data. Our NLO study of single-quarkonium production at mid and large p_T also confirms the difficulty of the approach to account for the measured p_T spectra; this is reminiscent of the impossibility to fit single-quarkonium data with the sole 3S18 NRQCD contribution from gluon fragmentation. We stress that the discrepancy occurs in a kinematical region where the new features of the improved CEM are not relevant.

Glueball scattering cross section in lattice SU(2) Yang-Mills theory

We calculate the scattering cross section between two $0^{++}$ glueballs in $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills theory on lattice at $β= 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4$, and 2.5 using the indirect (HAL QCD) method. We employ the cluster-decomposition error reduction technique and use all space-time symmetries to improve the signal. In the use of the HAL QCD method, the centrifugal force was subtracted to remove the systematic effect due to nonzero angular momenta of lattice discretization. From the extracted interglueball potential we determine the low energy glueball effective theory by matching with the one-glueball exchange process. We then calculate the scattering phase shift, and derive the relation between the interglueball cross section and the scale parameter $Λ$ as $σ_{ϕϕ} = (2 - 51) Λ^{-2}$ (stat.+sys.). From the observational constraints of galactic collisions, we obtain the lower bound of the scale parameter, as $Λ> 60$ MeV. We also discuss the naturalness of the Yang-Mills theory as the theory explaining dark matter.

Associated Quarkonium Hadroproduction at High-Energy Colliders

Quarkonium production in proton-proton collision is interesting in profiling the partons inside the nucleon. Recently, the impact of double parton scatterings (DPSs) was suggested by experimental data of associated quarkonium production (J/psi+Z, J/psi+W, and J/psi+J/psi) at the LHC and Tevatron, in addition to single parton scatterings (SPSs). In this proceedings contribution, we review the extraction of the effective parameter of the DPS through the evaluation of the SPS contributions under quark-hadron duality.

Nuclear electric dipole moment as a good probe of CP violation

The electric dipole moment (EDM) is an excellent probe of new physics beyond the standard model of particle physics. The EDM of light nuclei is particularly interesting due to the high sensitivity to the hadron level CP violation. In this proceedings contribution, we investigate the mechanism of the generation of the EDM for several light nuclei and the prospect for the discovery of new physics.

Hadronic EDM and New physics beyond standard model

The nuclear electric dipole moment is a very sensitive probe of CP violation beyond the standard model, and for light nuclei, it can be evaluated accurately using the few-body calculational methods. In this talk, we present the result of the evaluation of the electric dipole moment of 3-body and 4-body systems using the Gaussian expansion method in the ab initio approach and in the cluster model. We also give the future prospects for the discovery of new physics beyond it within the sensitivity of prepared experiments.

Nuclear electric dipole moment of light nuclei in the gaussian expansion method

The nuclear electric dipole moment is a very sensitive probe of CP violation beyond the standard model, and for light nuclei, it can be evaluated accurately using few-body calculational methods. In this talk, we present the deuteron, $^3$He, $^3$H, $^6$Li, and $^9$Be electric dipole moments calculated using the Gaussian expansion method with a realistic nuclear force, and assuming the one-meson exchange model for the P, CP-odd nuclear force. We then give future prospects for models beyond the standard model such as the supersymmetry.

preprint2016arXiv

Standard model contribution to the electric dipole moment of the deuteron, $^3$H, and $^3$He nuclei

We calculate for the first time the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the deuteron, $^3$H, and $^3$He nuclei generated by the one-meson exchange CP-odd nuclear force in the standard model. The effective $|ΔS| = 1$ four-quark operators are matched to the $|ΔS| = 1$ standard model processes involving the CP phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix at the electroweak scale and run down to the hadronic scale $μ= 1$ GeV according to the renormalization group evolution in the next-to-leading logarithmic order. At the hadronic scale, the hadron matrix elements are modeled in the factorization approach. We then obtain the one-meson (pion, eta meson, and kaon) exchange CP-odd nuclear force, which is the combination of the $|ΔS| = 1$ meson-baryon vertices which issue from the penguin operator and the hyperon-nucleon transition. From this CP-odd nuclear force, the nuclear EDM is calculated with the realistic Argonne $v18$ interaction and the CP-odd nuclear force using the Gaussian expansion method. It is found that the EDMs of light nuclear systems are of order $O(10^{-31}) e $ cm. We also estimate the standard model contribution to other hadronic CP violating observables such as the EDMs of $^6$Li, $^9$Be nuclei, and the atomic EDMs of $^{129}$Xe, $^{199}$Hg, $^{211}$Rn, and $^{225}$Ra generated through the nuclear Schiff moment. We then analyze the source of theoretical uncertainties and show some possible ways to overcome them.

Enhancement of the CP-odd effect in the nuclear electric dipole moment of $^6$Li

We calculate for the first time the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the $^6$Li nucleus within the alpha + p + n three-body cluster model using the Gaussian expansion method, assuming the one meson exchange P, CP-odd nuclear forces. It is found that the EDM of the $^6$Li is 2 times more sensitive on the isovector pion exchange P, CP-odd nuclear force than the deuteron EDM, due to the CP-odd interaction between the nucleons and the alpha cluster. The $^9$Be EDM is also calculated in the same framework as an alpha + alpha + n three-body system. We also test the ab initio calculation of the EDM of the deuteron, $^3$H and $^3$He nuclei using the realistic Argonne $v18$ nuclear force. In the ab initio calculations, good agreements with previous studies are obtained. We finally discuss the prospects for the new physics beyond the standard model.

Dark matter in the hidden gauge theory

The cosmological scenario of the dark matter generated in the hidden gauge theory based on the grand unification is discussed. It is found that the stability of the dark matter halo of our Galaxy and the cosmic ray observation constrain, respectively, the dark matter mass and the unification scale between the standard model and the hidden gauge theory sectors. To obtain a phenomenologically consistent thermal evolution, the entropy of the standard model sector needs to be increased. We therefore propose a scenario where the mini-inflation is induced from the potential coupled to the Standard model sector, in particular the Higgs sector. This scenario makes consistent the current dark matter density as well as the baryon-to-photon ratio for the case of pion dark matter. For the glueball or heavy pion of hidden gauge theory, an additional mini-inflation in the standard model sector before the leptogenesis is required. We also propose the possibility to confirm this scenario by known prospective experimental approaches.

Linear programming analysis of the $R$-parity violation within EDM-constraints

The constraint on the $R$-parity violating supersymmetric interactions is discussed in the light of current experimental data of the electric dipole moment of neutron, $^{129}$Xe , $^{205}$Tl, and $^{199}$Hg atoms, and YbF and ThO molecules. To investigate the constraints without relying upon the assumption of the dominance of a particular combination of couplings over all the rest, an extensive use is made of the linear programming method in the scan of the parameter space. We give maximally possible values for the EDMs of the proton, deuteron, $^3$He nucleus, $^{211}$Rn, $^{225}$Ra, $^{210}$Fr, and the $R$-correlation of the neutron beta decay within the constraints from the current experimental data of the EDMs of neutron, $^{129}$Xe, $^{205}$Tl, and $^{199}$Hg atoms, and YbF and ThO molecules using the linear programming method. It is found that the $R$-correlation of the neutron beta decay and hadronic EDMs are very useful observables to constrain definite regions of the parameter space of the $R$-parity violating supersymmetry.

Quark scalar, axial and tensor charges in the Schwinger-Dyson formalism

The quark scalar, axial and tensor charges of nucleon are calculated in the Schwinger-Dyson formalism. We first calculate these charges in the rainbow-ladder truncation using the IR cut quark-gluon vertex, and show that the result is in agreement with the known data. We then perform the same calculation with the phenomenological IR singular quark-gluon vertex. In this case, the Schwinger-Dyson equation does not converge. We show that this result suggests the requirement of additional corrections to the rainbow-ladder truncation, due to the interaction between quark and gluons in the deep IR region.

preprint2014arXiv

Quark scalar, axial, and pseudoscalar charges in the Schwinger-Dyson formalism

We calculate the scalar, axial, and pseudoscalar charges of the quark in the Schwinger-Dyson formalism of Landau gauge QCD. It is found that the dressed quark scalar density of the valence quark is significantly enhanced against the bare quark contribution, and the result explains qualitatively the phenomenologically known value of the pion-nucleon sigma term and also that given by lattice QCD. Moreover, we show that the Richardson's interquark potential suppresses the quark scalar density in the Higashjima-Miransky approximation. This fact suggests that the quark scalar density is an observable that is sensitive to quark confinement. For the quark axial charge, we find that it is suppressed due to the gluon dynamics. The result of the quenched analysis agrees qualitatively with the experimental data of the isovector axial coupling constant $g_A$. We show that the suppression of the quenched axial charge is due to a mechanism similar to that of the quark tensor charge. In the Schwinger-Dyson equation with the leading unquenching quark-loop contribution the quark axial charge is more suppressed, due to the anomaly effect. The quark pseudoscalar density is found to be large, and is divergent as the bare quark becomes massless. This result is in agreement with the phenomenological current algebraic analysis, and explains well the dominance of the pion-pole contribution.

preprint2014arXiv

Quark tensor and axial charges within the Schwinger-Dyson formalism

We calculate the tensor and axial charges of the quark in the Schwinger-Dyson formalism of Landau gauge QCD. It is found that the dressed tensor and isovector axial charges of the quark are suppressed against the bare quark contribution, and the result agrees qualitatively with the experimental data. We show that this is due to the superposition of the spin flip of the quark arising from the successive emission of gluons which dress the vertex. For the isoscalar quark axial charge, we have analyzed the Schwinger-Dyson equation by including the leading unquenching quark-loop effect. It is found that the suppression is more significant, due to the axial anomaly effect.

preprint2014arXiv

Quark tensor charge and electric dipole moment within the Schwinger-Dyson formalism

We calculate the tensor charge of the quark in the QCD-like theory in the Landau gauge using the Schwinger-Dyson formalism. It is found that the dressed tensor charge of the quark is significantly suppressed against the bare quark contribution, and the result agrees qualitatively with the analyses in the collinear factorization approach and lattice QCD. We also analyze the quark confinement effect with the phenomenological strong coupling given by Richardson, and find that this contribution is small. We show that the suppression of the quark tensor charge is due to the superposition of the spin flip of the quark arising from the successive emission of gluons which dress the tensor vertex. We also consider the relation between the quark and the nucleon electric dipole moments by combining with the simple constituent quark model.

R-parity violating supersymmetric Barr-Zee type contributions to the fermion electric dipole moment with weak gauge boson exchange

The contribution of the R-parity violating trilinear couplings in the supersymmetric model to the fermion electric dipole moment is analyzed at the two-loop level. We show that in general, the Barr-Zee type contribution to the fermion electric dipole moment with the exchange of W and Z bosons is not small compared to the currently known photon exchange one with R-parity violating interactions. We will then give new upper bounds on the imaginary parts of R-parity violating couplings from the experimental data of the electric dipole moments of the electron and of the neutron. The effect due to bilinear R-parity violating couplings, which needs to be investigated separately, is not included in our analyses.

A reappraisal of two-loop contributions to the fermion electric dipole moments in R-parity violating supersymmetric models

We reexamine the R-parity violating contribution to the fermion electric and chromo-electric dipole moments (EDM and cEDM) in the two-loop diagrams. It is found that the leading Barr-Zee type two-loop contribution is smaller than the result found in previous works, and that EDM experimental data provide looser limits on RPV couplings.

R-parity violating supersymmetric contributions to the neutron beta decay at the one-loop level

The contribution of the R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model to the neutron beta decay at the one-loop level is investigated. It is found that the baryon number and R-parity violating interactions contribute to the D correlation through one-loop corrections, while the tree level prediction is vanishing. The Fierz interference term is also investigated at the one-loop level by considering the lepton number and R-parity violating interactions. We show that future experimental progress can provide us with better constraints on some of the combinations of R-parity violating couplings.

R-parity violating supersymmetric contributions to the P, CP-odd electron-nucleon interaction at the one-loop level

The contribution of the R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric Standard model (RPVMSSM) at the one-loop level to the 199Hg atomic electric dipole moment (EDM) through P, CP-odd electron-nucleon (e-N) interaction is calculated. We show that the current experimental data of the 199Hg EDM give tighter constraints on some of the imaginary parts of R-parity violating (RPV) coupling than those currently known. We add also the analysis of the P, CP-odd 4-quark interaction generated by R-parity violating interactions at the one-loop level, and discuss the possibility to constrain them in future experiments.

Sfermion loop contribution to the two-loop level fermion electric dipole moment in R-parity violating supersymmetric models

We evaluate the Barr-Zee type two-loop level contribution to the fermion electric and chromo-electric dipole moments with sfermion loop in R-parity violating supersymmetric models. It is found that the Barr-Zee type fermion dipole moment with sfermion loop acts destructively to the currently known fermion loop contribution, and that it has small effect when the mass of squarks or charged sleptons in the loop is larger than or comparable to that of the sneutrinos, but cannot be neglected if the sneutrinos are much heavier than loop sfermions.

Two-loop level rainbowlike supersymmetric contribution to the fermion electric dipole moment

We calculate the two-loop level electric and chromo-electric dipole moments of the fermion involving fermion-sfermion inner loop, gaugino, and higgsino in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and analyze the chromo-electric dipole moment with the top-stop inner loop. It is found that this contribution is comparable with, and even dominates in some situation over the Barr-Zee type diagram generated from the CP-violation of the top squark sector in TeV scale supersymmetry breaking.

Constraint on R-parity violating MSSM at the one-loop level from CP-odd N-N interaction

Minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation (RPVMSSM) contributes to the P-, CP-odd four-quark interaction. The P-, CP-odd four-quark interaction is constrained by the new 199Hg EDM experimental data. It is then possible to constrain R-parity violating (RPV) couplings from the 199Hg EDM data. In this talk, we analyze the RPV contribution to the P-, CP-odd four- quark interaction at the one-loop level to give constraints on RPV parameters.

One-loop analysis of the four-Fermi contribution to the atomic EDM within RPVMSSM

The contribution in the R-parity violating (RPV) Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) to the electric dipole moment (EDM) of $^{199}$Hg at the one-loop level is evaluated. At the one-loop level, the $^{199}$Hg EDM receives RPV contribution whose couplings are of a different type from the tree level analysis. This contribution is shown to be constrained by using the limit to the CP-odd electron-nucleon (e-N) interaction given by the recent result of $^{199}$Hg EDM experiment.

R-parity violating supersymmetric contributions to the neutron beta decay

We investigate the contribution to the angular correlation coefficients of the neutron beta decay within the R-parity violating (RPV) minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The RPV effects contribute to the scalar interaction at the tree level. The effective scalar interaction of the neutron beta decay is constructed by making use of the relation between isospin asymmetries and the proton-neutron mass difference. On the basis of the recent update of the analyses of the superallowed Fermi transitions and the recent measurement of transverse polarization of the emitted electrons at PSI, we deduce new upper limits on the RPV couplings. We also point out the existence of new types of angular correlations which are sensitive to the RPV interactions.
