A solution of polynomial equations

We present a method for the solution of polynomial equations. We do not intend to present one more method among several others, because today there are many excellent methods. Our main aim is educational. Here we attempt to present a method with elementary tools in order to be understood and useful by students and educators. For this reason, we provide a self contained approach. Our method is a variation of the well known method of resultant, that has its origin back to Euler. Our goal, in the present paper, is in the spirit of calculus and secondary school mathematics. An extensive discussion of the theory of zeros of polynomials and extremal problems for polynomials the reader can find in the books 10 and 13 in our references.

Common hypercyclic vectors and universal functions

Let X,Y be two separable Banach or Frechet spaces , and (Tn) , n=1,2,... be a sequence from linear and continuous operators from X to Y . We say that the sequence (Tn) , n=1,2,... is universal , if there exists some vector v in X such that the sequence Tn(v) , n=1,2,... is dense in Y . If X=Y we say that the sequence (Tn) is hypercyclic .More generally we consider an uncountable subset A from complex numbers and for every fixed a in A we consider a sequence (Ta,n) , n=1,2,... from linear and continuous operators from X to Y .The problem of common universal or hypercyclic vectors is whether the uncountable family of sequences of operators (Ta,n) , n=1,2,... share a common universal vector for all a in A .We examine , in this work ,some specific cases of this problem for translation , differential , and backward shift operators . We study also some approximating problems about universal Taylor series .

Common hypercyclic vectors for certain families of differential operators

Let (k(n)) n=1,2,... be a strictly increasing sequence of positive integers . We consider a specific sequence of differential operators Tk(n),λ , n=1,2,... on the space of entire functions , that depend on the sequence (k(n)) n=1,2,... and the non-zero complex number λ . We establish the existence of an entire function f , such that for every positive number λ the set {Tk(n),λ ,n=1,2,... } is dense in the space of entire functions endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on compact subsets of the complex plane . This provides the best possible strenghthened version of a corresponding result due to Costakis and Sambarino [9] . From this and using a non-trivial result of Weyl which concerns the uniform distribution modulo 1 of certain sequences and Cavalieri principle we can extend our result for a subset of the set of complex numbers with full 2-dimentional Lebesque measure .

Universal Taylor series on specific compact sets

Let DD be the open unit disc in the complex plane. We denote by C\mathbb{C} the set of complex numbers and consider any compact set KK which is disjoint from DD and which also has connected complement. Let A(K)A(K) denote all the functions f:K→Cf:K\to \mathbb{C} such that ff is continuous on KK and holomorphic in KoK^o. It is well known that there exist holomorphic functions ff on DD for which the partial sums Sn(f)S_n(f), n=1,2,... of the Taylor series with center 00 are dense in A(K)A(K) for every KK satisfying the properties above. It is also known that the above result fails if we consider the weighted polynomials 2nSn(f)2^nS_n(f), n=1,2,... instead of Sn(f)S_n(f), n=1,2,.... In the opposite direction, the main result of this work shows that there exist holomorphic functions ff on DD for which the sequence 2nSn(f)2^nS_n(f), n=1,2,...n=1,2,... is dense in A(K)A(K) for specific compact sets KK. In this case the geometry of KK plays a crucial role. We also generalize these results on arbitrary simply connected domains.

Common hypercyclic functions for translation operators with large gaps II

We prove the existence of common hypercyclic entire functions for uncountable families of translation type operators. Contrary to our previous work [34], here the parameter which reflects the uncountable family lies on the unit circle. On the other hand the sequence of translations is in a sense less restrictive if it is to be compared with the corresponding sequence in [34]. Our result largely extends a result of Costakis in [19].
