Holographic superconductivity in Einsteinian Cubic Gravity

We study the condensation of a charged scalar field in a $(3+1)$-dimensional asymptotically AdS background in the context of Einsteinian cubic gravity, featuring a holographic superconductor with higher curvature corrections corresponding to a CFT with a non-vanishing value of the stress tensor three-point function $t_4$. As it was previously noticed for higher dimensional Gauss-Bonnet theory, we observe that the critical temperature of the superconducting phase transition is lowered as the higher curvature coupling grows.

Engineering holographic flat fermionic bands

In electronic systems with flat bands, such as twisted bilayer graphene, interaction effects govern the structure of the phase diagram. In this paper, we show that a strongly interacting system featuring fermionic flat bands can be engineered using the holographic duality. In particular, we find that in the holographic nematic phase, two bulk Dirac cones separated in momentum space at low temperature, approach each other as the temperature increases. They eventually collide at a critical temperature yielding a flattened band with a quadratic dispersion. On the other hand, in the symmetric (Lifshitz) phase, this quadratic dispersion relation holds for any finite temperature. We therefore obtain a first holographic, strong-coupling realization of a topological phase transition where two Berry monopoles of charge one merge into a single one with charge two, which may be relevant for two- and three-dimensional topological semimetals.

Exact solutions for a ferromagnet with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

On the two-dimensional non-linear $Σ$-model describing a ferromagnet with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, we build three families of exact static solutions depending on a single Cartesian variable. One of them describes a clockwise helix configuration, that characterizes the ground state of the system. A second one corresponds to a counterclockwise helix, representing an excited state. These two families of solutions are parameterized by a continuous parameter that depends on the magnetic field and the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya coupling. Finally, the third family exists only for isolated values of the same parameter, corresponding to a discrete family of Viviani curves on the target sphere. The degeneracy of the resulting spectrum suggests that an approximate symmetry may emerge at specific values of the magnetic field, at which additional solutions could then exist.

Thermodynamic instabilities in holographic neutron stars at finite temperature

We study the thermodynamics of a self-gravitating system of neutral fermions at finite temperature and analyze its backreaction in an asymptotically AdS space. We evaluate numerically the free entropy as a function of temperature, and perform a stability analysis applying the simple and powerful graphical method referred as the Katz criterion. We found that for highly-enough degenerate fermionic solutions, the onset of thermodynamic instability arises, though prior to the turning point on the mass as a function of the central density. Our results for finite temperature fermions provide a novel and more general way to study the confinement to deconfinement phase transition in the holographic field theory, generalizing former conclusions developed for systems at zero temperature.
