Closed form asymptotics for local volatility models

We obtain new closed-form pricing formulas for contingent claims when the asset follows a Dupire-type local volatility model. To obtain the formulas we use the Dyson-Taylor commutator method that we have recently developed in [5, 6, 8] for short-time asymptotic expansions of heat kernels, and obtain a family of general closed-form approximate solutions for both the pricing kernel and derivative price. A bootstrap scheme allows us to extend our method to large time. We also perform analytic as well as a numerical error analysis, and compare our results to other known methods.

Approximate Solutions to Second Order Parabolic Equations I: analytic estimates

We establish a new type of local asymptotic formula for the Green's function ${\mathcal G}_t(x,y)$ of a uniformly parabolic linear operator $\partial_t - L$ with non-constant coefficients using dilations and Taylor expansions at a point $z=z(x,y)$, for a function $z$ with bounded derivatives such that $z(x,x)=x \in {\mathbb R}^N$. For $z(x,y) =x$, we recover the known, classical expansion obtained via pseudo-differential calculus. Our method is based on dilation at $z$, Dyson and Taylor series expansions, and the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff commutator formula. Our procedure leads to an elementary, algorithmic construction of approximate solutions to parabolic equations which are accurate to arbitrary prescribed order in the short-time limit. We establish mapping properties and precise error estimates in the exponentially weighted, $L^{p}$-type Sobolev spaces $W^{s,p}_a({\mathbb R}^N)$ that appear in practice.

Existence of multi-pulses of the regularized short-pulse and Ostrovsky equations

The existence of multi-pulse solutions near orbit-flip bifurcations of a primary single-humped pulse is shown in reversible, conservative, singularly perturbed vector fields. Similar to the non-singular case, the sign of a geometric condition that involves the first integral decides whether multi-pulses exist or not. The proof utilizes a combination of geometric singular perturbation theory and Lyapunov--Schmidt reduction through Lin's method. The motivation for considering orbit flips in singularly perturbed systems comes from the regularized short-pulse equation and the Ostrovsky equation, which both fit into this framework and are shown here to support multi-pulses.
