Coordinately Assisted Distillation of Quantum Coherence in Multipartite System

We investigate the issue of assisted coherence distillation in the asymptotic limit (considering infinite copies of the resource states), by coordinately performing the identical local operations on the auxiliary systems of each copy. When we further restrict the coordinate operations to projective measurements, the distillation process is branched into many sub-processes. Finally, a simple formula is given that the assisted distillable coherence should be the maximal average coherence of the residual states. The formula makes the experimental research of assisted coherence distillation possible and convenient, especially for the case that the system and its auxiliary are in mixed states. By using the formula,\ we for the first time study the assisted coherence distillation in multipartite systems. Monogamy-like inequalities are given to constrain the distribution of the assisted distillable coherence in the subsystems. Taking three-qubit system for example, we experimentally prepare two types of tripartite correlated states, i.e., the $W$-type and GHZ-type states in a linear optical setup, and experimentally explore the assisted coherence distillation. Theoretical and experimental results agree well to verify the distribution inequalities given by us. Three measures of multipartite quantum correlation are also considered. The close relationship between the assisted coherence distillation and the genuine multipartite correlation is revealed.

Unveiling quantum entanglement and correlation of sub-Ohmic and Ohmic baths for quantum phase transitions in dissipative systems

By employing the spin-boson model in a dense limit of environmental modes, quantum entanglement and correlation of sub-Ohmic and Ohmic baths for dissipative quantum phase transitions are numerically investigated based on the variational principle. With several measures borrowed from quantum information theory, three different types of singularities are found for the first-order, second-order, and Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transitions, respectively, and the values of transition points and critical exponents are accurately determined. Besides, the scaling form of the quantum discord in the Ohmic case is identified, quite different from that in the sub-Ohmic regime. In a two-spin model, two distinct behaviors of the quantum discord are uncovered: one is related to the quantum entanglement between two spins and the other is decided by the correlation function in the position space rather than the entanglement.

Large-scale Monte Carlo simulations for the depinning transition in Ising-type lattice models

With the developed "extended Monte Calro" (EMC) algorithm, we have studied the depinning transition in Ising-type lattice models by extensive numerical simulations, taking the random-field Ising model with a driving field and the driven bond-diluted Ising model as examples. In comparison with the usual Monte Carlo method, the EMC algorithm exhibits greater efficiency of the simulations. Based on the short-time dynamic scaling form, both the transition field and critical exponents of the depinning transition are determined accurately via the large-scale simulations with the lattice size up to L = 8 912, significantly refining the results in earlier literature. In the strong-disorder regime, a new universality class of the Ising-type lattice model is unveiled with the exponents β = 0.304(5), ν = 1.32(3), z = 1.12(1), and ζ = 0.90(1), quite different from that of the quenched Edwards-Wilkinson equation.

Polaron dynamics with a multitude of Davydov D$_2$ trial states

We propose an extension to the Davydov D$_2$ Ansatz in the dynamics study of the Holstein molecular crystal model with diagonal and off-diagonal exciton-phonon coupling using the Dirac-Frenkel time-dependent variational principle. The new trial state by the name of the "multi-D$_2$ Ansatz" is a linear combination of Davydov D$_2$ trial states, and its validity is carefully examined by quantifying how faithfully it follows the Schrödinger equation. Considerable improvements in accuracy have been demonstrated in comparison with the usual Davydov trial states, i.e., the single D$_1$ and D$_2$ Ansätze. With an increase in the number of the Davydov D$_2$ trial states in the multi-D$_2$ Ansatz, deviation from the exact Schrödinger dynamics is gradually diminished, leading to a numerically exact solution to the Schrödinger equation.

Symmetry and Explicit Marking of the Critical Phase in Two-Bath Spin-Boson Model

The spin-boson model is a paradigm for studying decoherence, relaxation, entanglement and other effects that arise in a quantum system coupled to environmental degrees of freedom. At zero temperature, a localization-delocalization phase transition is known to exist in the sub-Ohmic regime, where the standard density matrix renormalization group algorithm is inadequate due to the divergence in the number of low-frequency modes. This limitation is circumvented in this work by symmetrically optimizing the phonon basis and introducing an order parameter accounting for the U(1) symmetry for a two-bath spin-boson model, by which we are able to determine the classification and criticality of the phase transition explicitly. Compared with variational results, the critical phase is characterized by spontaneous vanishing of boson displacements in both the baths, resulting in an accurate phase diagram with three model parameters.

Symmetry and the critical phase of the two-bath spin-boson model: Ground-state properties

A generalized trial wave function termed as the "multi-D1 Ansatz" has been developed to study the ground state of the spin-boson model with simultaneous diagonal and off-diagonal coupling in the sub-Ohmic regime. Ground-state properties including the energy and the spin polarization are investigated, and the results are consistent with those from the exact diagonalization and density matrix renormalization group approaches for the cases involving two oscillators and two baths described by a continuous spectral density function. Breakdown of the rotational and parity symmetries along the continuous quantum phase transition separating the localized phase from the critical phase has been uncovered. Moreover, the phase boundary is determined accurately with the corresponding symmetry parameters of the rotational and parity symmetries. A critical value of the spectral exponent s* = 0.49(1) is predicted in the weak coupling limit, which is in agreement with the mean-field prediction of 1/2, but much smaller than the earlier literature estimate of 0.75(1).

Variational dynamics of the sub-Ohmic spin-boson model on the basis of multiple Davydov $\mathrm{D}_1$ states

Dynamics of the sub-Ohmic spin-boson model is investigated by employing a multitude of the Davydov D$_1$ trial states, also known as the multi-D$_1$ Ansatz. Accuracy in dynamics simulations is improved significantly over the single D$_1$ Ansatz, especially in the weak system-bath coupling regime. The reliability of the multi-D$_1$ Ansatz for various coupling strengths and initial conditions are also systematically examined, with results compared closely with those of the hierarchy equations of motion and the path integral Monte Carlo approaches. In addition, a coherent-incoherent phase crossover in the nonequilibrium dynamics is studied through the multi-D$_1$ Ansatz. The phase diagram is obtained with a critical point $s_{c}=0.4$. For $s_{c}<s<1$, the coherent-to-incoherent crossover occurs at a certain coupling strength, while the coherent state recurs at a much larger coupling strength. For $s<s_{c}$, only the coherent phase exists.

Ground state properties of sub-Ohmic spin-boson model with simultaneous diagonal and off-diagonal coupling

By employing the variational approach, density matrix renormalization group (DMRG), exact diagonalization as well as symmetry and mean-field analyses, the ground state properties of the two-bath spin boson model with simultaneous diagonal and off-diagonal coupling are systematically studied in the sub-Ohmic regime. A novel quantum phase transition from a doubly degenerate "localized phase" to the other doubly degenerate "delocalized phase" is uncovered. Via the multi-D1 ansatz as the variational wave function, transition points are determined accurately, consistent with the results from DMRG and exact diagonalization. An effective spatial dimension $d_{eff} = 2.37(6)$ is then estimated, which is found to be compatible with the mean-field prediction. Furthermore, the quantum phase transition is inferred to be of first order for the baths described by a continuous spectral density function. In the case of single mode, however, the transition is softened.
