Doppler: Automated SKU Recommendation in Migrating SQL Workloads to the Cloud

Selecting the optimal cloud target to migrate SQL estates from on-premises to the cloud remains a challenge. Current solutions are not only time-consuming and error-prone, requiring significant user input, but also fail to provide appropriate recommendations. We present Doppler, a scalable recommendation engine that provides right-sized Azure SQL Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) recommendations without requiring access to sensitive customer data and queries. Doppler introduces a novel price-performance methodology that allows customers to get a personalized rank of relevant cloud targets solely based on low-level resource statistics, such as latency and memory usage. Doppler supplements this rank with internal knowledge of Azure customer behavior to help guide new migration customers towards one optimal target. Experimental results over a 9-month period from prospective and existing customers indicate that Doppler can identify optimal targets and adapt to changes in customer workloads. It has also found cost-saving opportunities among over-provisioned cloud customers, without compromising on capacity or other requirements. Doppler has been integrated and released in the Azure Data Migration Assistant v5.5, which receives hundreds of assessment requests daily.

Single-shot multispectral quantitative phase imaging using deep neural network

Multi-spectral quantitative phase imaging (MS-QPI) is a cutting-edge label-free technique to determine the morphological changes, refractive index variations and spectroscopic information of the specimens. The bottleneck to implement this technique to extract quantitative information, is the need of more than two measurements for generating MS-QPI images. We propose a single-shot MS-QPI technique using highly spatially sensitive digital holographic microscope assisted with deep neural network (DNN). Our method first acquires the interferometric datasets corresponding to multiple wavelengths (λ=532, 633 and 808 nm used here). The acquired datasets are used to train generative adversarial network (GAN) to generate multi-spectral quantitative phase maps from a single input interferogram. The network is trained and validated on two different samples, the optical waveguide and a MG63 osteosarcoma cells. Further, validation of the framework is performed by comparing the predicted phase maps with experimentally acquired and processed multi-spectral phase maps. The current MS-QPI+DNN framework can further empower spectroscopic QPI to improve the chemical specificity without complex instrumentation and color-cross talk.

Denial of Service Attack: Analysis of Network Traffic Anormaly using Queuing Theory

Denial-of-service (DOS) attacks increasingly gained reputation over the past few years. As the Internet becomes more ubiquitous, the threat of the denial-of-service attacks becomes more realistic and important for individuals, businesses, governmental organizations, and even countries. There is intensive need to detect an attack in progress as soon as possible. The efficiency of diagnosing the DOS attack using concepts of queuing theory and performance parameter of the system has been investigated in the present work, as the servers definitely have some mechanisms to store and process the requests. Utilizing this concept of queuing theory, the collection of data patterns were generated. With the performance parameter of the system, the analysis of the data pattern had been made to diagnose the network anomaly. Performance analysis and results show the accuracy of the proposed scheme in detecting anomalies.
