On the $m$-dimensional sectional category and induced invariants

In this paper, we systematically study the $m$-dimensional sectional category of a fibration, introduced by Schwarz, as an approximating invariant for the sectional category. We develop the basic theory of this invariant, establish its fundamental properties, and show how it gives rise to a hierarchy of induced invariants, including the $m$-dimensional Lusternik-Schnirelmann category, the $m$-topological complexity, and the $m$-homotopic distance between maps. We further investigate the relationships between these $m$-dimensional invariants and their classical analogues, present a variety of examples in which these invariants are computed, and illustrate when they agree with or differ from their classical counterparts. We also introduce the notion of $m$-cohomological distance and study its interaction with the $m$-homotopic distance.

LS-category and topological complexity of Milnor manifolds and corresponding generalized projective product spaces

Milnor manifolds are a class of certain codimension-$1$ submanifolds of the product of projective spaces. In this paper, we study the LS-category and topological complexity of these manifolds. We determine the exact value of the LS-category and in many cases, the topological complexity of these manifolds. We also obtain tight bounds on the topological complexity of these manifolds. It is known that Milnor manifolds admit $\mathbb{Z}_2$ and circle actions. We compute bounds on the equivariant LS-category and equivariant topological complexity of these manifolds. Finally, we describe the mod-$2$ cohomology rings of some generalized projective product spaces corresponding to Milnor manifolds and use this information to compute the bound on LS-category and topological complexity of these spaces.

The Borsuk-Ulam theorem for planar polygon spaces

The moduli space of planar polygons with generic side lengths is a closed, smooth manifold. Mapping a polygon to its reflected image across the $X$-axis defines a fixed-point-free involution on these moduli spaces, making them into free $\mathbb{Z}_2$-spaces. There are some important numerical parameters associated with free $\mathbb{Z}_2$-spaces, like index and coindex. In this paper, we compute these parameters for some moduli spaces of polygons. We also determine for which of these spaces a generalized version of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem hold. Moreover, we obtain a formula for the Stiefel-Whitney height in terms of the the genetic code, a combinatorial data associated with side lengths.
